CHAPTER 4 I WANT TO MEET MY FATHER.

Despite how much she tried to ignore it, Jessica could not stop thinking about her encounter when she ran to Nancy. The entire experience made her feel bitter and angry. She knew that she would meet her when she chose to come back home but she didn't know that it would be this soon.

She felt the need to blame herself. She was the one who chose to be friends with Nancy in the first place. If she would not have been friends with her, then she would never have left town let alone have an estranged relationship with her father.

Seeing her daughter reminded her of the big issue in front of her and that pertained to Mia's dad. To be honest, she was so afraid of coming back to Mountain View because she worried that the custody will be taken away from her by Mia's father.

The pain of the night she left hit her and she started sobbing. She didn't know that she was loud until her daughter woke up.

" Mummy, are you okay?" Mia asked with concern written all over her face .

" I am fine," Jessica quickly wiped her tears away.

" Please talk to me," Mia begged and Jessica decided to tell her what had been bothering her for a long while.

" Mia, would you prefer being with me or your father?" She asked.

Seeing how the question bothered Mia, she decided to take it back but she didn't give her that chance.

"The truth is, I want to be with mommy and daddy," Mia said and she could feel her heart twitching. She felt so much bitterness but she had to keep on smiling.

" Can I meet my dad?" Mia asked, but Jessica figured that that was enough.

" Go to bed now, that is enough. We will talk about it tomorrow," Jessica made it clear.

Jessica kept thinking about the man she had a one night stand with and just felt sorry for herself. She didn't even date him, why was she asking her daughter about him yet she barely knew him. The question is, can they live as mommy and daddy with a stranger.

The next morning, Jessica left for work in a hurry. She tried to cover her big dark circles under her eyes with tons of concealer but it was not working.

She left Mia with her nanny not knowing that Mia was up to something. As soon as her mother left, she went to call her aunty Lucy.

" Hello Aunty, it's me Mia," She said.

" Hello sweet Mia, how are you?" Aunt Lucy asked.

" I am fine, I was just saying that today is Mom's birthday and I want to buy her a cake," Mia said innocently.

" Will you take me out?" She asked.

Lucy looked at her calendar and truthfully, today was Jessica's birthday.

Lucy agreed to take Mia out. They ordered a cake and after that Mia had a fantastic idea of getting a beautiful dress for her mother. Since Lucy was in a hurry, she left her by the store where the owner was her acquaintance. She knew that Mia would be safe until she picked her up .

Mia was excited to get something for her mum, she started walking along the aisles filled with different clothing hoping that she would get something for her mum.

"Robert, thank you for remembering my birthday." Ada pretended to be shy and said to Robert beside her as she moved closer to him to hold his hand. However, the cold eye that Robert gave her made her keep her distance once again.

" Choose what you want from the store, I will pay," Robert said before taking a seat by the entrance. Ada did not like Robert's coldness but there was nothing that she could do about it. She forced a smile and started looking around.

Mia finally spotted a red bodycon dress and she was about to get it when Ada grabbed it from her.

" Give it to me!" Ada said through gritted teeth and Mia started crying.

" No, I want it, it's for my mum," Mia said crying, gathering the attention of the shop attendant.

" Young child, are you lost?" The attendant asked.

" I want the dress, she took it from me. It's for my mum," Mia couldn't stop crying.

" The dress is so expensive. Can you afford it?" They asked her.

" I knew it. She can't afford it, let me have it!" Ada said. She didn't care about Mia's feelings. She didn't love children let alone care for them.

" It's mine!" Mia shouted before taking the dress and heading to the entrance. Seeing Robert, she had an idea.

" Daddy, daddy," She called Robert who was busy reading the Forbes Africa Magazine.

Before he could know that he was the one being called, Mia had jumped on him and hugged him tightly. Ada who had followed her felt her blood boiling seeing Mia hugging Robert. Robert couldn't resist her. Despite being cold and arrogant, his heart had a soft spot for children.

" My aunt left me to get a dress for my mum, to wear on her birthday but she wants to take the dress," Mia reported Ada who rolled her eyes. Heck! She hated her.

" Now that you have found the dress, should I call your aunt?" Robert asked her. For some reason, he felt his heart getting fond of her.

"Robert." Ada stamped her feet secretly to make him dismiss Mia but he didn't even look at her . He was busy talking to Mia.

" Thanks for rescuing me from that lady who wanted to steal my dress, I have to go now," Mia said before going to the counter where she met Lucy's friend.

At this point, Robert's eyes couldn't help narrowing, and he looked at Mia again. He felt that he knew her from before but he couldn't tell where. Could it be that she was a child of one of his business partners?

Robert tried to forget about her but he couldn't, instead he found himself going after her.

" Excuse me baby girl but what is your name?" He asked in a gentle tone.

" My name is Mia," Mia said with a smile.

"Mia, what else do you want to buy for your mommy next?" Seeing that Mia is so clever and filial, Robert rarely rubbed Mia's little head gently.

"Necklace, I want to buy mum a nice necklace !" Mia said excitedly.

Although she just met her, Mia inexplicably loved and felt safe around him.

"Good."

In full view, Robert leads Mia's hand and walks downstairs to the jewellery store

Ada, who was watching with pure envy, couldn't contain her anger.

"Dead child." She cursed hard in her heart, and then she thought of following them out.

After working overtime all day, it was already ten o'clock in the evening when Jessica came home.It was dark at home today, but she was too tired to think about it.

The moment she opened the living room door however, the lights were turned on and they all shouted "Surprise" Making her completely taken aback. She was not expecting this. This is so kind of them.

Then, accompanied by Lucy, Mia delivered the carefully prepared cake to Jessica.

"Happy birthday, Mommy!"

"Happy birthday to Jessica!"

Looking at the warm scene in front of her, Jessica's eyes were red with emotion, and finally she recalled that today was her birthday.

Jessica couldn't help but shed a tear of joy, as per the tradition, she made a wish and cut the cake.

After taking a bite of the cake, Mia ran back to her room, and then mysteriously took out a box from the room.

"Mommy, this is a present for you."

Looking at the beautiful gift box in Mia's arms, Jessica subconsciously thought it was Lucy's arrangement, but Lucy's face showed that she was also clueless.

" Open it quickly!" Mia urges and Jessica follows her instruction. She was so stunned by the red dress.

" It's perfect," Jessica said.

" Do you like it?" Mia nervously asked.

" I love it," Jessica said with a wide smile.

" It's lovely, " Lucy added.

" Where did you get the money to buy it?" Jessica decided to ask when she realised that Lucy didn't have a hand in it.

" Uncle handsome bought it. He also bought the gold plated necklace below the dress," Mia said with a smile and Lucy and Jessica looked at each other with confused expressions on their faces.

" What!" Jessica gasped.

" Who is he?" Lucy asked.

" I met him at the store," Mia innocently states.

" Didn't Mommy educate you not to take other people's things? Why are you so disobedient?" Jessica had to scold her for talking to a stranger.

" I am sorry, it's just that I wanted you to be happy," Mia said as her voice cracked and Jessica knew that she might have been too harsh on her.

" I am sorry mama, I shouldn't have been harsh, but next time, don't talk to strangers, okay?" Jessica said.

" Okay mama, happy birthday once again," Mia said with a smile.

Jessica looked away to cry when Mia decided to tell the truth.

" I am sorry mama, I lied," Mia states.

" You lied?" Lucy was confused.

" I bought the dress, uncle bought the necklace," Mia came clean.

" What!" This confused Jessica even more.

" I used this black card," Mia finally said.

" I am so sorry for stealing the card!" Mia said amid tears making it difficult for Jessica to scold her.

Mia carefully looked at Jessica's expression, while Lucy saw the origin of this card.

"Isn't this my brother's black card?"

"Stephen said that with this, I can protect my mommy and buy beautiful things to make my mommy happy, so I took it." Mia hung her head and said with some guilt and guilt.

After all, she promised Stephen, which is their secret.

After finding out the ins and outs of the matter, Jessica was moved and blamed herself. Mia has been kind and lovely since she was a child. How could she suspect Mia had done something she shouldn't have done?

"Mia, Mommy says I'm sorry. Mommy shouldn't doubt you."

"Mia shouldn't make Mommy angry either."

Their warm appearance envied Lucy next to them. In order not to let this atmosphere continue, she changed the subject and said.

"Mia, what did you say about the handsome uncle?''After Mia called her, she rushed over, but didn't see any handsome uuncle.mMia's eyes lit up immediately, and she told the whole story.

"Our Mia is great!" After listening to Mia's story, Lucy kissed Mia greatly. Jessica is happy to see that her daughter is so witty and has not been bullied.

"Mommy, if you really can't find my daddy, I think that handsome uncle can also be my daddy." Mia thought about her handsome uncle's behaviour today, and she thought she could match her beautiful mommy.

Hearing this, Lucy didn't want to. "Mia baby, don't you want Stephen?"

After putting Mia to sleep, Jessica sends Lucy downstairs and gives Lucy the black card.Lucy didn't accept it directly, but continued to fight for her brother who was still abroad.

But Jessica shook her head. "Lucy, you know me. I don't want to find love now. I just want to find Mia's father."In fact, deeper in her heart, she no longer believes that there is love in this world.

After all, her father's betrayal was so fruitless.

Seeing Jessica so persistent, Lucy had to accept the card and said comfortably before leaving:

"Jessica, Mia will grow up safely and healthily."

Although Lucy acted okay, deep down she wanted for Jessica to fall in love with her brother, Stephen.
