CHAPTER 5 The Dramatic Dinner

Looking at the repainted gate of what used to be her home made Jessica feel a mixed reaction in her heart. It was even more difficult to comprehend that she had not been home for more than five years.

Anyway, today, she wore the dress Mia bought her, with light makeup and soft hair behind her to attend the dinner that Lucy told her about. Something has totally changed about her since the last time that she was here, she was more intellectual, sexy and beautiful.

She had arrived quite early and even though the banquet had not started, the guests had been in an endless stream. Looking at all this made her aware that her father made great progress in the years that she was far away from home. Jessica made it thanks to the invitation from Lucy.

Jessica noticed a few changes once she arrived at the banquet hall. The decoration had changed, it was not her mother's style anymore. Jessica couldn't help smiling bitterly, this was really a lot to take in, maybe coming here was a very bad idea.

Jessica decided on taking a breather but she couldn't escape Nancy's piercing eyes.

"Are you so afraid of her coming back?" She asked her, getting her full attention. Jessica didn't say much, her smile just turned to a frown.

"Excuse me, excuse me." Nancy said loud enough to get people's attention.

"How did she get in?" Nancy quickly finds the housekeeper and points to Jessica.

"Ma'am, this is Miss King II. She has an invitation." The housekeeper who doesn't know who Jessica is, says.

Hearing this made Nancy frown. It seems that Jessica is trying to outsmart her.

" But I am afraid it will not be easy for you to come back to this family. You left, didn't you?" Nancy said before something flashed in her mind.

Jessica couldn't care less, other than listening to her, she focused on the giant poster in the centre of the banquet.

It is printed with a cute little boy with a lovely smile, accompanied by a greeting.

Happy birthday, John.

Wair Is this James and Nancy's child?Her brother?

Jessica was a little absent. She looked at her younger brother as old as Mia, and her heart couldn't hate her.

"Ah!"

"Miss, I'm sorry, I'm sorry."

Just as Jessica turned around, she ran into the servant with the wine tray, and several glasses of red wine spilled all over her skirt.There was a lot of noise, which attracted people around us to watch.

She came to Smith just to get her mother's relics back, but she didn't want to run into Nancy or her dad.

On her way out Jessica heard the voice of Nancy,

"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm terribly sorry, but today's party may have to be suspended.The reason for stopping the party is that there are thieves among us, and my red agate necklace has just been stolen."

Nancy touched her white neck and looked devastated.Her agate necklace is well known, but last month he auctioned it for 15 million.The banquet hall suddenly sighed, and thieves appeared in the place of celebrities and nobles.

Immediately, all exits of the banquet were filled with security guards.Jessica couldn't help but get cold behind her back. She looked up at the centre of the banquet and saw Nancy looking back at herself with a smile in her eyes.

Jessica immediately realised that something was wrong, but now she had nowhere to go.Soon, a burly security guard had stood in front of her, looking down at her.

"Hello, Miss, do you have an invitation?"

Everyone was not asked the question except for her which clearly meant that she was being suspected.

" You have to open your handbag. We must search you. You could end up being the thief,"

At this time, Jessica had no choice, but she still kept a smile on her face and calmly opened her handbag.

"Found it!"

Before Jessica could completely open the bag, the security guard around her pulled the bag in her hand and took out the necklace Nancy had just mentioned.Nancy pushed through the crowd and quickly held the necklace in her palm, crying and laughing like a victim.

"Miss, you don't look like a poor person gauging from your clothes, but why do you steal?" Nancy looked at Jessica with red eyes. She pretended that she had never met her before.Everyone present was deceived by her rich acting skills, but Jessica knew it, she planned all this.

"If you don't talk, I will call the police." Nancy pretended to give Jessica a chance, but in the dark she arranged for the housekeeper to call the police.

Now, in front of prominent people in Mountain View, Jessica has been convicted of being a thief, tarnishing her reputation. Even if Jessica wants to turn over in the future, it will be difficult.

" What is going on here,"Nancy was suddenly interrupted with a cold voice.

"It's Robert!"

When he appeared, everyone was in uproar. It was a complete luck to have Robert to turn up to an occasion. This was special.

Robert walked in unimpeded all the way to Jessica .Robert looks around and finally his cold eyes fall on Jessica.

"Did you steal it?" His tone was calm.

"Huh?" Jessica recognized the man in front of her as the boss who had accepted her before.

Did he recognize her? What will he do to her? Fire her? Jessica was so confused.

"I'm asking you a question." Robert frowned slightly. He had never seen anyone dare to desert in front of him. It was still such a tense situation and her silence came out as a disrespect.

"No, I didn't steal anything."

"Very good." Robert nodded his head, and there were no more words to say, and it was impossible to see what he was thinking.

But at this time, all the people in the banquet hall were shocked, and they had to look at Jessica again.

What exactly is her relationship with Robert? It attracted Robert to take the initiative to talk to her.

Ada behind her recognized Jessica's clothes at a glance.When she was still in consternation, she was pulled aside by Nancy.

Suddenly, everyone's eyes were drawn back to Ada.Jessica's heart suddenly shook. Her boss knew Nancy?

"Nancy, this is an employee of our company. I just heard that she stole something. I wonder if there is any evidence?"Nancy's face suddenly looked ugly. She didn't expect Robert to take Jessica's side."Everyone saw that my necklace was found in her bag."

"Hmm?" Robert turned his eyes to Jessica. "Is that right?" Robert turned to look at Jessica but she only glared at him.

She was confused, was he trying to defend her? Wait before that, was he Nancy's brother in law?

Despite her worry, somehow Jessica felt safe now that Robert has intervened. She felt that she could trust him.

"She admitted stealing it," Nancy lied.

" No, I didn't, " Jessica said and ended up explaining herself. She felt that this was the right time to do so.

" I think this was a set up," Robert made a judgement and at this point, Nancy gives her sister Ada a look and wants her to take Robert away. Otherwise, staying will only make things worse.

"Robert, my head hurts. Let's go." Ada holds her head and rubs it softly in front of Robert.

But before she touched Robert's sleeve, she was killed by a cold look. She had to retreat to one side bitterly and did not dare to say a word more.

Jessica looked at the scene in amazement.She loved his attitude towards Nancy and Ada.

That aside, Jessica couldn't fathom why Nancy wanted to destroy her today, anyway, she was not going to allow it.

Robert demanded an investigation and after what seemed like a long while the truth came out. Of course Nancy did not own up for the crime, she blamed the housekeepers.

Anyway, since the drama came to an end, they all got settled and watched the play. But before Robert left, he found himself staring at Jessica. He found her quite interesting than he had initially thought.

As soon as the play ended, all Jessica wanted was to go home. She came to get back her mother's relics, but Nancy made such a stupid move.

" Do you think I can let you go without hearing the truth? What is your relationship with Robert?" Nancy asked after blocking her way.

"Boss and employees, what's wrong with that?" Jessica asked before rolling her eyes. She was tired and she just wanted to leave, not to answer Nancy's stupid question.

"Oh, nothing." Nancy said before walking away.

She was confused. Was Robert helping Jessica because she is an employee or was he helping her for another reason other than that? She was so curious to find out.
