Chapter Seven: Baby Talk and Mix ups

1834 Words
Kovie and I sat on our porch with Kelly enjoying the morning breeze as the neighborhood buzzed with life. The kids were now aloud in our yard after convincing the parents Kovie wasn't trying to steal their soul. "When will we have young?" I nearly choked on my coffee. "Kovie we talked about this. Not until I pick what I want to be and I'm turned." "But it's been three months and you still haven't picked." If I was being honest with myself the idea of turning and having children terrified me to no end. Hence why I was on birth control. Kovie stiffened beside me. I sighed. "Kovie we agreed you would stop reading my mind." He shrugged. "A little hard to do when we are bound." I punched his arm and enjoyed the rest of my morning. It wasn't a surprise he wanted children. According to him, immortal couples start breeding as soon as they are mated. His female could end up with five or six children within three years. Depending on the species. "You don't have to be turned to have children." "I know Kovie." I didn't have the heart to tell him the truth as to why I didn't want kids. "I would be too weak to defend them if you are away." He considered my words carefully. "I suppose you have a point. Females are often the last and strongest line of defense. Even the fathers are not as fiercely protective as mothers." I laughed. "Makes sense to me." A few weeks later I had finally picked my race. I had chosen to be a succubus. Funny considering he's a demon. Talks about children continued for sometime but we hadn't been able to decide. Well, I hadn't been able to decide. Normally the conversation ends with me in a bad mood but today it was about to get worse. During my consultation, the doctor had informed me that I only had a two month window to have children before I became sterile. My secret was now out in the open. Kovie looked hurt. I motioned for the doctor to continue and asked him to explain my multiple conditions. I had PCOS and early on set menopause. "I never wanted children because I didn't want the disappointment of losing pregnancies or never being able to conceive." Kovie just kind of looked at me for a moment and laughed. "What the hell is wrong with you?!" I looked at my mate, baffled that he would laugh while I was so vulnerable. "Immortality is quite literally the cure for pretty much every medical problem. As long as you turn within the next month." I looked at him and the doctor who nodded matter of factly. I sat back with a kind of confused look on my face. But soon I perked up. "I can really have kids?" The doctor smiled and agreed saying that they had an opening tomorrow for me to get turned. We went to bed that night happy and content. The next morning, I checked into the clinic and had to have a pycho therapist evaluate me to make sure I wouldn't have to be put down after turning. After I proved I wasn't a complete nut job, I was placed in a room to wait. Kovie had to wait in a solitary confinement type room that was made to withstand male demons ramming the wall to get to their females. In other words, this was going to hurt and they wanted to make sure males didn't kill the staff. It scared me a bit but I was willing to do anything to be with him. The nurses and doctors were careful and gentle with me as I was strapped down and had needles inserted into my arms. "We will give you something to make you forget the pain but we have to let you feel it. Your heart rate has to be above a certain point in order for you to turn. So you will also be getting multiple shots of adrenaline at key points to keep you from permanently dying and to keep you awake. Im very sorry for the pain you'r about to feel." I nodded and braced my self and my resolve. When things started I checked out. But according to the staff, I screamed like an entitled Karen. I woke up in a pitch black room and for a moment I panicked. "Easy my love." Kovie's soothing voice filled my now incredibly sensitive ears and I felt heavy. "Now, I want you to be very careful when moving." I tried ask what he meant but instead I rumbled. I. f*****g. Rumbled. I stood abruptly and then fell over. I was shrieking from panic and bashing into the walls. I could hear him sighing before he jumped on my now very long neck and grabbed what I assumed were horns. What the hell happened? "Easy." My head was jerked back and I tried to calm down. "We are turning the blue lights on now." Kovie covered my eyes then slowly moved them away so I wasn't blinded. The room was large and spacious with high ceilings. I stood once again, causing him to almost fall off my neck. I mentally braced myself for what I was about to see. I turned my neck and almost fainted. I stared at the creature I saw in the mirror. I was a dragon. Well, something that looked like a dragon. I was long and slender with shiny, black, curled horns. My forehead down to the my top jaw resembled a skull. My body was blue with small black specs dotting my legs. Black fur ran down my forelegs, spine, tail. I curled my tail around to see the end was covered in silkie black fur. It took a few hours but I was finally able to return to normal. After that, we had a nice long chat with the staff. I looked at my chart to see it still said succubus. "How did this happen." The head nurse ushered everyone out and closed the door behind her. She then handed me a separate chart. Kovie and I were in disbelief. "She's a tri-hybrid?" I looked my chart trying to wrap my head around what I was reading. "Dragon, Siren, Skull-ram? What the hell is a Skull-ram?" The picture I was shown was truly terrifying. The beast was colossal and looked like some kind of monster from a Godzilla movie. "How did this happen?" We asked in tandem. The nurse looked ashamed. "One of my new nurses messed up and brought us other vials of blood instead of the correct ones on top of incorrect meds. Mrs. Sasha," she paused, trying to find the words. "you shouldn't have survived that transformation. I've never seen someone code as many times as you did and pull through." The air suddenly became too thin for me to breathe and I felt like throwing up. "The only explanation is that your transformation was tampered with. I assure you that your case is being looked into." I tried to speak but I was in shock. I should've died. Someone tried to kill me or was getting off on my suffering. What the hell was going on? A few weeks later there was a knock on our door. A pretty red headed woman smiled happily at me and handed me a plate of cookies. "Hi. My name is Tessa. I'm your new neighbor. I managed to sneak out of the building before anyone could think. The woman was dying on the table but I knew she would survive. She had enough adrenaline in her system to kill a whale. She would survive and would be used as a weapon when the time was right. She would help us rid the world of filthy mongrel immortals and then we will kill her when she is no longer of use. The other experiment failed and managed to get loose. I looked down at the uniform I had stolen from a poor dumb lady who was most likely just waking up from her sedative fueled nap. I hid when the back door opened and another nurse was throwing away some old food, completely oblivious that I was there. *Code Blue! Code Blue! Shift lad.* s**t. This wasn't part of the plan. This was the fifth time she was coding. If she died for real my ass was grass. I bolted away from the building as fast as I could. I made my way to the van that was waiting for me. Once I got inside I breathed a sigh of relief. "Did you complete your task?" I huffed in one final breath and nodded. "Yes sir. She's In the lab as we speak being worked on. I have no doubt she will be a successful weapon when complete." I replied to the older man. He was our general in this fight against immortals. He was in his late fifties and had dark hair. His eyes were a creepy beady black but appearance didn't matter. "Good. Good work soldier." I smiled at his praise. But then everything went black as a loud bang sounded. He shot me. He actually shot me. I clung to life as the van sped off and I played dead. Soon we stopped and I was being wrapped up in what I assumed was a blanket. I was then thrown into water. I held my breathe as long as I could. Luckily I could hold it for five minutes. I unwrapped my self and swam with the current until I could hear what sounded like a bell. Ah I was in the harbor. I carefully made my way to the surface. I gasped for air when I broke through. I looked around while grabbing onto my wound. I looked down to see blood coming from a wound just cementers away from my heart. "Bro look! There's a woman bleeding in the water!" I looked to see a barge headed my way and waved as best as I could. Once they pulled me onboard and began stabilizing me, I glared at the sky. I was now questioning everything I was trained. I was never harmed by an immortal unless I was directly threatening their mate or young but a human had tried to kill me. A human I trusted and loved as a father. They would live to regret this decision. Gravely. Ironically, the very woman I sought to help use I now needed. She was the key to either side winning this war and she needed to be warned. A few weeks later and I was being discharged from the hospital, determined to find that woman. It didn't take long. I stood outside her house and knocked on her front door. I looked down at the cookies then smiled when the door opened. "Hi." I said with genuine happiness. "I'm Tessa. Im your new neighbor."
