The crisp autumn air wrapped around Olivia as she stood outside the small coffee shop, her fingers curled around a warm cup of chai. Across from her, Noah leaned against the brick wall, watching her carefully.
"You’re quiet today," he noted, tilting his head. "Something on your mind?"
Olivia took a slow sip, considering her words. "Just thinking. About us. About whether we can really do this."
Noah exhaled, his breath visible in the cool air. "I get it. I do. But I meant what I said, Liv. I’m all in. And I’m not going to let fear stop me this time."
She looked at him, her eyes searching his. "But what if I’m still afraid?"
He reached for her hand, his touch gentle but firm. "Then I’ll be patient. We’ll take it at your pace. No pressure. No expectations. Just us, figuring it out."
A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips. "You really aren’t giving up, are you?"
"Not a chance."

Over the next few weeks, Olivia found herself letting go—little by little. She let Noah in, allowed him to see the vulnerable parts of her that she had kept guarded for so long. And in return, he showed her his own scars, the past that had shaped him into the man he was today.
One evening, as they walked through the park, Noah suddenly stopped. "Close your eyes."
Olivia frowned. "Why?"
"Just trust me."
She hesitated before finally closing her eyes. A few seconds later, she felt his hands on her shoulders, guiding her forward.
"Okay," he said softly. "Open them."
When she did, her breath hitched. In front of her was a blanket, a thermos of hot cocoa, and a small box of pastries. A quiet, simple picnic beneath the golden-hued trees.
"You did this? For me?"
He shrugged, grinning. "Figured you could use a moment to just... breathe."
Her heart swelled. "Noah, this is—"
"I know it’s small," he interrupted. "But sometimes, the small things matter the most."
She took a step closer, looking up at him. "You really see me, don’t you?"
He nodded. "I always have."

That night, as Olivia lay in bed, she stared at the ceiling, replaying the evening in her mind. The way Noah had looked at her, the way he made her feel safe. Loved.
Maybe it wasn’t about leaping all at once.
Maybe it was about taking one step at a time, together.
And for the first time in a long time, Olivia felt like she was exactly where she was meant to be.
