LIFE IS NOT A BED OF ROSES

Chief Dan is a man of great integrity, God fearing and has sound reputation in all his endeavours. He was married to Rose and they were blessed by God with a male child, Godwin. Chief Dan spent most of his time and life in the city as a successful business tycoon who deals in marketing of home appliances like refrigerator,washing machine, electric cooking gas and lots more,he employed people that will be in charge of his company once he is not around .He was the talk of the moment both in the village and in the city. Every body around Chief Dan fetches water from his stream of wealth and taps from his wealth of knowledge. As we all know that he who has money has relations and kindred, and he who pays the piper dictates the tune,Chief Dan is an ardent believer in Christ and equally has strong flair for sound and quality education. In view of this, he vowed that his only son Godwin must acquire western education which will equip him in life. It will also enable him acquire necessary experiences,wisdom,skills and knowledge to exploit the vast economic opportunities inherent in his father land. . It is interesting to note that Chief Dan did not attend tertiary education yet his business acumen prowess and knowledge surpass that of the half baked graduates in our society today. He also has strong desire to help people, his presence in the village brings beaming smiles to the less privileged especially the downtrodden and people with financial difficulties. He is ever ready to solve people's problems. His kinsmen close to him perceive a breath of fresh air the moment he is in the village. Due to his benevolence generosity and hospitality, he was conferred with the Chieftancy title AKUSINACHI 1 OF UMUOMA KINGDOM by the king of his kingdom. He shunned pride in all ramifications. He preferred to be silent and would not want people to know the extent of his wealth. However, he opened a big supermarket for his wife in the city and also employed many workers. He pays their salaries every end of the month. Meanwhile the business was booming and booming very well to the glory of God. Chief Dan and his family lives in Lagos in a well furnitured duplex he built by himself, he always travels to China for a business confrence or to import some of his goods, sometimes he spents a whole month in China depending on what he does. Unfortunately his only son Godwin always brings shame to the family by always having the last position in class, he so playful, smart and storbbon always fights in the class even in the teacher's presence. His parents especially his Dad has been cautioning him to stop this bad habit but he always put on deaf ears. His Dad met his class teacher, Mr. David and the teacher explained every thing about Godwin. His Dad told the teacher to always watch his moves and also the kind of friends he associate with. The teacher promised to check his moves from then hence forth Chief Dan later met his son outside the class and informed him that his class teacher is now watching his movements and if he hears any bad report concerning him, he will skin him alive.However Godwin wasn't serious about this, he paid deaf ears to his Dad and class teacher's advice. His Dad was not happy at all but he knew what to do on this matter. Godwin was in SS 1, he suddenly changed his attitudes after taking his junior WAEC.He attends Great Inventors Collage and he wants to be an artist but doesn't pays attention to his studies. He is sixteen years old when he was in SS1, he managed to pass his junior WAEC through exam malpractice. He is in art class. One day at the end of the first term, Godwin retuned home with a bad result, he was looking very sad and was hiding his result, so that his Mum will not see it. His Mum was in the kitchen cooking, he saw his mum and he greets with a low voice; "good afternoon mum" "good afternoon son, " she looked at his moody face and asked " why are you sad, is very thing alright" "Mum nothing just that....." he lies as he was hiding his report card. lmmediately his mum noticed and she asked him to bring out the report card he was hiding at his back. "Just what Godwin, have you taking the last position again"she asked him with an angry tone. " Mum pls don't show it to dad, he will skin me alive if he sees my result pls" Godwin pleaded with his Mum, he was on his knees pleading. His mum pretendly laughed at him and said; "son your dad must hear this, do you know how much we spend on your school fees every term, your books, both text and exercise books and other expenses and you have the guts to tell me not to show your dad your bad result, why are you doing this to us why? " mum am sorry, am sorry.... " Godwin pleads while holding one of his mum's legs. "You should be sorry for your self" Rose was not happy at all, he collectd the report card from him and went through it, she was not pleased with what she saw, Godwin almost failed all his subjects except CCA(cultural and creative art) which he got C on it. As Godwin was meditating on what his father will do to him once he sees his result, some one knocked on the door, his heartbeat increased, he is between the devil and the deep blue sea. Rose opened the door, lo and behold it was her husband Chief Dan, immediately, Godwin ran inside his room to hid. Rose welcomed her husband warmly, Chief Dan sat down on the sofa chair in the sitting room to rest while Rose went to fetch a glass of water for him to drink Few minutes later, Rose came back with a tray of food and a glass of water, she cooked fried rice and chicken that afternoon. She served it to her husband and they all ate together, it was a delicious meal. Couple of minutes later Rose raise the dust of the discussion; "you came back early today, is every thing okay" "my love today was a very stressful day for me so I decided to come back home and rest,tomorrow I will continue . I have some people in charge of the company, so whose report card are you holding?" He asked as he sights the report card. "oh its Godwin's report card, he just messed up his self" Rose retorted "what do you mean he just messed up his self, did he got the last position again, oh my God" Chief Dan was becoming angry, his wife gave him Godwin's report card and he went through it, he saw what he has been seeing in his result, he angrily threw the result away and exclaimed; "what sort of rubbish is this, what has come over this boy, he is now washing his dirty linen in the public....where is he, Godwin anywhere you are now, you better come and explain what am seeing in your report card now.." Meanwhile, Godwin has been eavesdropping what his parents has been discussing, until his dad called his name, he fearfully came out from his room to answer his dad's call. His heart beat increased, because he knew what will happen to him if his dad dares sees him. Rose pleas to her husband to take it easy with Godwin. "yes ye yes dad da dad, you yo you call called me me...." Godwin stammers "Godwin what is your problem, you have repeated SS1 almost three times and again you have taken the last position, tell me what's your problem...." Chief Dan barked at him being very angry. "Dad am sorry" he went down on his knees pleading with his dad "sorry for your self for disgracing your self" He nearly slapped him as he stood up angrily. "my love, you better teach this boy some lessons because if I lay my hands on him, he will regret ever being born" Chief Dan told his wife,as he leaves the sitting room to the bedroom to clam his self. "you see what you have done to your self, you refused to tune a new leaf, just pray that your dad will forgive you for this.....nonsense" Rose sighs leaving the embittered Godwin alone in the sitting room. He cried bitterly.
