Ch.01
Plakk!
The sound of slaps echoed throughout the Walters' home. Karina gasped as she wiped the bleeding corner of her lip. The sight of her father made her want to leave the house even more. "I had already told you that Jenna shouldn't get tired! Why do you still let her clean the bathroom?" Karina was still silently looking at her father. There's Jena and her mother were seen covering their mouths with their hands because they were shocked by the sight in front of them. "I told you already that it was what she wanted. Why are you still blaming me?" "You can still hold it back!" "But her was the one who insisted!" Karina's father, David Wallters, still looking at Karina with an inscrutable gaze. He was still annoyed that Karina didn't want to do what he said.
"Can't you obey me this time?" David spoke in a soft voice this time. "You also never obey my wishes." "I've never raised you to be a disobedient child, Karina." "Because you never educated me!" "Karina, that's enough! Don't defy your father again!" this time Karina's mother, Maria Wallters, spoke. Hearing that, Karina became increasingly enraged. "Yes. Indeed, your only child is Jenna. Take care of the child yourself."
Karina walked toward her room. She looked at Jenna and stopped for a moment in front of her. "You always make things difficult for me." After that, Karina continued her steps towards her room. There, Karina looked at the photo on the nightstand. She reached out to pick it up and hugged it. "Karina misses you, mom." After that, Karina fell asleep. Because she felt very tired from an argument with her father all day.
The clock showed eight o'clock in the evening. Karina stirred slowly. She had been asleep for quite some time, and she was sure she wouldn't be able to sleep tonight. Karina heard a knock on her bedroom door from outside. "Karina, come down. Let's have dinner!" "Hm, go ahead." "You just woke up?" "Go! I'll be down in a moment," Karina sighed after Jenna's voice was gone. She was lazy. Usually, her parents would only be busy with Jenna without caring about her own existence.
Pushing herself, Karina went downstairs to the dining room. She saw Maria feeding Jenna medicine before eating and David stroking Jenna's hair. "A happy family." Karina walked towards the dining table. Jenna excitedly called out to Karina. "Karina, here!" Karina just clicked her tongue and forced a smile. Dinner started quietly.
"Jenna, what major do you want to take after graduation?" Maria started a conversation with Jenna. "I want to major in Law. I planned to become a lawyer." "Sounds good. You can be a lawyer later." "And Karina, what major do you want to?" this time Maria asked Karina. Apparently, she still remembered Katina. "Arts," "No way." David's voice was like an absolute command for Karina. Karina took a rough breath. "Why?" Karina was tired of her parents who always forbade her from doing what she wanted.
"You can't go to the Arts department. You have to be with Jenna. Someone has to look after Jenna there." "It can't be like that! I'm the one going to college. Why are you the one arranging it?" "Anyway, you have to be with Jenna." "Why can't I do art? My interest is in Art!" "If you study art, you have no future. What do you want to be if you study Art? Look at Jenna, she studied Law so she could become a lawyer." "I have no intention of being in Law at all. What's wrong with you?" "No objection. You are with Jenna." "Damn!" "Watch your mouth, Karina!" Jenna, who had been silently watching, opened her mouth this time. According to her, Karina, it's too much to dare to curse at her father.
"Don't interfere, Jenna." "You're being too rude to dad!" "You don't know anything, Jenna Jeffers-"
Pranggg!
The sound of broken glass hitting the floor was heard as Karina called Jenna's name, Jeffers. Blood slowly poured from Karina's head. Karina just smiled crookedly. "K-karina, I-i" "See? Dad even threw me with the glass just because I called her Jenna Jeffers." "N-not like that, Karina." This time, David felt guilty when he saw how blood was seeping from Karina's head. "I'm yours daughter, aren't I?" Karina's voice was very low.
This time, she felt hopeless. She was tired. David was always like this. He took everything out on Karina. David remained silent when Karina asked him. "Papa didn't answer." Karina smiled slightly. "I'm done." As Karina was about to step forward, a woman's voice was heard who became Karina's mother. "Karina, I will take care of your head, okay?" "No need."
After that, Karina left her house. Luckily, Karina always carried a small bag containing her cell phone and wallet wherever she went. So in times like these, Karina didn't look like a lost person with nothing.
Slowly Karina left the house with the wound on her head still not yet healed. Karina walked toward the hospital and her house wasn't too far away. It only took fifteen minutes on foot. But halfway there, Karina felt dizzy, and her sight began to blur. She continued to walk unsteadily. Slowly, Karina fell, and her sight began to darken when she heard someone calling her name.
Karina blinked, she smelled medicine. She wasn't stupid like in the movie, asking 'Where am I?' Of course, only with smelled it, she knew. She was in the hospital. "Are you conscious?" asked the young man who brought Karina to the hospital. "M-mark?" Karina was a little timid when calling his name. She was afraid of calling the wrong person because her sight was still not very clear. "Yes, Dear. I'm Mark. You remember me, right?" Karina just nodded. She still felt dizzy and unable to move around much.
The doctor arrived and immediately checked on Karina. "Karina's condition is improving. Just don't move around too much because she's still recovering. If you feel dizzy, call me immediately." "Okay doctor, thank you." Mark thanked the doctor. And the doctor just said, 'You're welcome,' and he left the room.
"Do you remember me?" Mark tried to ask Karina again. "Yes. Why don't I remember you?" "The doctor said, If you haven't been conscious for three days, you're likely experiencing amnesia." "Me? Amnesia? How long have I been sleeping?" "Two days and thirteen hours." "HUH?!" "Shh, honey. You just woke up. Don't scream yet." "You said I'm here for two days? What about my parents?" Mark remained silent. He couldn't answer. He remembered what Karina's parents had said when they told him Karina was hospitalized.
'That kid is always causing trouble. Sorry Mark, I'm busy. Aunty and Jenna are too. You can take care of Karina, okay?' "Your parents already know. But . . ..they—" "It’s okay. I understand," Karina just smiled. Her parents definitely wouldn't care about her. She was just trying to be okay when her parents abandoned her.

Karina has been allowed to go home by the doctor, with the condition that Karina should not think too much and not get stressed. Because it may affect the medicine. "Remember what the doctor said. Don't think too much, don't stress, watch your food and sleep patterns," "And call me if anything happens. You've said that many times, Mark." Before he could finish his sentence, Karina interrupted Mark. "Enough. I'm going home." "Hey," Mark kissed Karina's forehead briefly. It was obvious that Mark really loved Karina. "Enough, come in. I'll be home if you come in." "Yes, Bye!" After that, Karina entered her house. As she entered, she was surprised to see Jenna standing behind the door.
"Where have you been?" Jena asked where Karina had been. Karina was at a loss. Didn't her father tell her mother and Jenna that Karina was in the hospital? "None of your business," "Your head is bandaged Karina," "You saw my head bandaged, but you still ask where I've been? Think about it. Use your brain don't just for display,"
Karina stepped into her room. She didn't see her parents. Surely they wouldn't bother to greet her having just been discharged from the hospital. And Karina didn't need any of that. For what?
In the room, Karina immediately jumped onto her favorite bed while hugging the photo she took from the bedside table. "Mom, Karina was admitted to the hospital yesterday. Only Mark accompanied me. Zara seems to be busy. Because she didn't come to visit me. Neither with Dad, Aunty and Jenna. Maybe they don't care about me. It's okay if they don't care. The important thing is that Mom is always with Karina. Karina loves you," Karina hugged the photo after kissing it for a long time. Karina loved the photo so much, and more specifically, the person on it.
