Chapter 22
MEN SHOUTED in the semidarkness.
Zaina sat up, shivering with the feel of the clammy air over her skin.
The air rang with the rough voices of Aranian men, and the pre-dawn light was tinged orange with the glow of fire. Something burned to her right, but the smoke and mist made it hard to see.
She scrambled for her boots and jacket and, those items located, made sure that her dagger was still inside her boot.
At least ten Aranian soldiers were attacking the camp, and fighting the Eagle Knights. The birds hissed and snapped. They were not tied up, yet didn’t fly off. It was probably too dark and misty for them to see.
A man with a flaming torch walked past the trailer, and flung the torch in the back of the nearest truck. The contents caught fire almost immediately. Three Kn
