Enzo leaned back on his office chair with his eyes closed as his head faced the ceiling. He couldn’t understand why he was thinking about the girl so much. What was it that was pulling his mind towards her? Suddenly, the door banged open and, because of the scent of the person, Enzo had no need to open his eyes.
Only one person had the audacity – and permission– to enter Enzo's office like that; his Beta Luca. As Enzo opened his eyes, he caught sight of Luca entering his office as he closed the door behind him. Once the door was shut, he leaned against it, with his hands in his pockets and waited for his Alpha’s orders.
“I want you to do a full background check on Amelia Lashbroke.” Enzo ordered his beta. His voice was cold and clipped. Luca silently stood there, expressionless as he listened to his alpha command. Enzo went back to his mini-bar located at the corner of his office. “I am certain that her last name is not Lashbroke. "But I still want you to dig up her file and see if you find something,” he said as he poured some whiskey in two glasses.
Luca walked up to him and took the glass from Enzo's hands and sipped slowly. They both stared at one another, intensely. The air is heavy around them. When Luca finished his drink, he placed the empty glass on the tray that laid on the counter and turned towards Enzo.
“Why?” he asked, giving Enzo a strange look. Enzo shrugged off his question. “Does it matter?”
Luca rolled his eyes at Ezo. “There is always a motive. You never do anything without planning. The rogue trespassed into your pack territory. Instead of killing her, you keep her, and instead of shoving her into the dungeons, you give her a room next to yours. "Sounds like a strategic plan to me”, Luca said as he paused for a moment. “Are you suspecting that she is a spy? Is that why you are keeping her there? To see who she works for? Or working with?” Enzo glared at him with all the questions he threw at him.
“He has a point, Enzo, because I am wondering the same. "What’s your plan?” Marco adds in the conversation in the mind link between the two men. Enzo got pissed off at both of their questions. Normally, if it were someone else, they would be dead long ago, but Luca was his beta, first in command. But more importantly, their relationship ran deep. They are brothers before Alpha and Beta, and nothing would ever change that.
“You think I would keep her if she was a spy?” Enzo gritted his teeth at both of them. Luca and Marco. Even Enzo’s wolf can get on his nerves sometimes. Luca shrugged his shoulders.
“Anything is possible with you. So i ask you again, why are you keeping her?” Luca asked again.
“None of your business. Do as you're told.” Enzo ordered and Luca nodded.
“I will let you know what I find.” Enzo nodded and turned towards the large windows of his office. He heard shuffling behind him and soon enough the door opened and closed.
“What’s the deal, Enzo?” Marco asked once Luca had left.
“There is something about her that does not seem fit.” Enzo says to his wolf.
“What do you mean?” Marco asks curiously.
“She appears to be human, but there is something about her scent. Like something is missing,” Enzo continued, which left Marco thinking. Surely enough, Enzo was right. When Marco was able to sniff Amelia in Enzo’s room, there was another scent mixed with hers. But it was very faint, almost dead.
“Yes. Something doesn’t feel in place with her. We will have to keep a close eye on her. After all, she is not part of this pack just yet. That girl is still a rogue.” Enzo agreed with his wolf.
He looked down at his whiskey as Enzo twirled the glass in his hand. “Let’s see what you are hiding from me little girl.” Enzo whispered to himself quietly as he took a sip from his glass.
Enzo decided that he would slowly uncover all of Amelia's secrets layer by layer until he knew everything about her. Every last detail. Once he had everything about her in his hands, he would conquer her like nothing would be left of her.
Enzo's large windows of his office overlooked the back garden below. As he continued to look outside, his phone rang in his pocket. He took his phone out and answered without looking at the caller ID.
“What?” he barked.
“There's nothing on her,” Luca said. Enzo’s fingers tightened around his phone as he smirked. Enzo knew it. He thought correctly about his little minx.
"There’s no trace of her in either the werewolf or human databases—like she never existed. No records, no past. "Someone has erased every piece of her existence, leaving her dead, completely off the grid." Luca stated his findings very calmly, as if he was aware that Enzo knew that he would find nothing on her.
Enzo released a small laugh. Shaking his head as he thought about the innocent girl that was hiding under his bed. The moment he saw her, he knew she was in trouble. But instead of ending it, he let it drag on, savoring the outcome for reasons beyond anyone’s understanding.
“I got this,” Enzo said over the phone and it ended without waiting for an answer.
“Well, this is going to be interesting,” Marco says to Enzo, and he couldn’t agree more. Enzo walked away from the window and out of his office.
Amelia POV
Amelia followed Alastor down the stairs, and she was able to view the mansion better than before. The ceiling was the most beautiful ceiling that she had ever seen. A huge shiny chandelier hung from the ceiling. As Amelia walked down the staircase with Alastor she noticed another staircase on the left that also led up to the second floor. They both met in front of each other, leading to the second floor space. Amelia held on to the concrete and cement banister as it was running something under her hand. The floor was marble and sparkled throughout the mansion. This time, Amelia noticed that the mansion was huge, yet gave a warm and homey feel.
Amelia was still absorbing the interior style of the mansion as she was descending the stairs until she crashed into a wall of hard muscles. She stiffened up and stepped away quickly. Alastor turned around and growled at her aggressively.
“Are you blind?” Alastor said. His voice was sharp as a whip. Amelia shook her head in response.
“Then watch where you are going,” he continued. Amelia nodded, too scared to say anything. Alastor scared Amelia beyond words, almost like his dominating aura muted her lips. They stepped off the staircase, and started walking in the direction of the left corridor. Amelia began to relax as she continued to follow Alastor but at a safe distance, and attentive to her eyes and ears.
She continued to inspect the mansion. Amelia had also lived in a mansion, but it was never like this. As a rogue alpha, Victor was also very wealthy, but this mansion and territory is not even remotely close to where she was living now. Victor’s mansion was always dark, creepy, messy, dirty, smelly and uninviting. However, where Amelia stayed now was more beautiful and welcoming.
Amelia thought that whoever had decorated and designed this place, did it with the pure love of their family. Every detail of the mansion is refined and blended that would give any person a warm feeling. As she continued to follow Alastor, Amelia became more aware of her surroundings.
As Alastor came to a stop, Amelia also quickly halted in her tracks before she would repeat the staircase incident. She was only an inch away from him, but still took a few steps back. She didn’t want to get snapped back at him because one thing she now understood was that Alastor was a moody man.
“Elara, I brought you another omega,” Alastor said in a soft voice. Amelia's mouth dropped open as she stared in shock at his back. She couldn’t believe her eyes and ears. Did he just speak softly?
“Oh dear. How lovely. "Where is she sweetheart?” I heard a warm voice ask.
Sweetheart? Was I hearing right? Or do my ears still have dirt in them? Alastor’s back was blocking Amelia’s view so she could make out who was standing in front of them. Amelia stepped to the side and her eyes widened in shock.
Standing there was a woman who appeared to be in her late forties and early fifties. She wore a similar outfit to what Amelia was wearing. However, instead of boots she wore flats and no pendant. The woman smiled sweetly at Alastor as she wiped her hands clean on her white apron.
When Elara saw Amelia, her smile widened, and she walked towards Amelia. “Oh, there you are.” Elara walked over to Amelia and held her face in both of her hands. “My, what a gorgeous girl you are.”
Elara gently took Amelia's hands and whisked her away from Alastor like a mother shielding her child. Taking Amelia by her hands, Elara led her into the kitchen through a modern white-looking door, where the rest of the omegas worked, all females. Not a single male was present in this area of the mansion.
Amelia looked around the kitchen and found some similarities that reminded her of Victor's home, but the main difference was that this kitchen was much larger, brighter and tidy. The kitchen contained ocean blue cabinets with a plain white marble counter and marble back slab that were tinted a bit of silver and gray, which was very abstract.
There were four bar stools allied with the counter and alongside that, Amelia saw two more women working and they were wearing the same dresses as hers. They were both much younger than Elara. Both of the women looked up as they heard us coming in. As they got closer, both girls looked at Amelia up and down like some object.
Amelia palm began to sweat in Elara’s hands, and he grasped the end of her black dress with her other hand due to her nervousness. “We have a new member,” Elara announced with excitement, and before she could continue, a voice interrupted her.
“We don’t need another omega here,” the raven-haired girl spoke up. Elara opened her mouth to answer but someone else cut her off.
“Actually you do.” Amelia's body straightened up to the sound of his voice, and got intense. She swallowed hard as Elara's eyes widened as well. The girls looked skittish and immediately bowed down to respect their Alpha. Elara let go of Amelia’s hands and turned around with her hands on her hips as she faced her Alpha. Licking her lips, Amelia turned and faced Enzo as well.
Green eyes met blood-red eyes, a silent war waged between them in that unbroken stare. Amelia’s heart kept beating fast as Enzo’s gaze was fixed on hers. Amelia was getting restless and uncomfortable as Enzo kept staring. She just wished that he would stop. His presence made her feel nervous, scared and also giddy.
“Amelia is going to work with you all. Elara, you will assign her work and make her schedule,” Enzo stated clearly, leaving no room for anyone to argue.
Amelia tore her gaze away, blinking as if waking from a trance and forced herself to breathe. She felt really uncomfortable as he examined her hips, legs, arms, waist, everything. Once he was done, he looked back into Amelia's eyes and gave her a small smirk which was hard to see. But it was there. That intense, devilish smirk.
Amelia broke the stare and shook her head away and gathered herself. Amelia thought that it would not be possible. Without even trying, Enzo Niccolo was getting under the skin, so fast that he had successfully overtaken her mind. She stared back at him, and Enzo gave her the same look as before, but only this time did he not hide it.
Amelia saw clearly this time that Enzo’s eyes were filled with desire, hunger and lust.
