Amelia POV Amelia woke the following day with sunlight radiating through her large room windows. She groaned as she pushed the comforter away from her body and sat up on the bed. She heard the chirping of the birds as she looked out her window. It was another bright day outside. Amelia thought that everything from yesterday was just surreal and a nightmare that was over. The memory was a blurred vision as she thought of the basement and the torments that she lived through. She could not understand how Enzo apologised to her for his ruthless actions towards her. On top of all that, he brought a tray full of fresh and warm food. No scrapes. The terror of Enzo sent shivers down Amelia's spine. She groaned and laid her head back on the pillow with a heavy sigh. She did not know what was going on in Enzo's head, but one thing that was clear to Ameila was that she must stay clear out of his way. These actions of his are not repetitive, only his merciless behavior. Her thoughts were interrupted by a constant knocking at her bedroom door. Amelia was no on full alert. She called out without thinking twice. “Come in” as soon as those words let Amelia mouth she went rigid and got tensed. Is it Enzo? What will I do? As the door opened, in walked Zara, Elara’s daughter. Zara was 3 years older than Amelia but they have become close friends in the past few days. Apart from Elara, Zara was someone Amelia was beginning to trust. “Amelia” Zara whispered as she entered Amelia's bedroom and closed the door behind her. She ran towards Amelia and hugged when she sat on her bed with her. Amelia saw that Zara's expression was filled with worry for her. “Oh my god Amelia, we were so worried!” Zara says, taking Amelia's hands into hers. When Zara looked at the Amelia arm and wrist were filled with bandages she was speechless. No words were coming out of her mouth. “Oh Amelia,” `zara says as she bit down lips and tears left her eyes. “It's okay Zara. I’m alright.” Amelia mumbled to her, withdrawing her hand away to not want anymore attention towards her injured arm. “No Amelia,” Zara argued, “It's not okay. When mum and I heard that Enzo and his warriors took you to the basement, she almost collapsed from shock!” Zara rose to her feet with her hands in the air. Amelia's heart ached at the thought of Elara being worried, and looked down sadly. She did not know that her attempt to escape would cause such chaos. Amelia sniffed her tears away, but they kept going down her cheeks. “He thought that I was the traitor, a spy” Amelia says, close to weeping as she did best to hold it back “I know,” Zara said softly as she sat back on the bed in front of Amelia. “But I am not!” Amelia says, in an attempt to convince Zara, that she is telling the truth. Amelia was saying with conviction and hoping that Zara would believe her. She wanted someone to believe her that she was not their enemy. “We believe you Amelia. Its clear as day that you are not the traitor in our pack. But Enzo is stubborn. If there is even a hair that causes him to suspect someone, he doesn’t let it go. Regardless of what anyone says.” Amelia nodded in understanding, but also in confusion. “But later on, Enzo let me go. He even went further to apologize for his ruthless actions towards me in the basement, and bangaid my arm and injuries. I’m just so confused as to what he thinks.” Amelia looked at Zara and saw the mouth hung wide open, and her eyes widened in shock. She placed her hand on my arm gently and said, “Enzo is very stubborn and highly unpredictable as you already know. But if he apologized that means you are in the clear. He does not believe that you are a spy. This means that you are safe now.” As Zara spoke softly to Amelia about the situation, Amelia began to relax and her doubts fading away. “Are you sure Zara? Because I can't face going back to the basement again.” Amelia says doubtfully. Zara gently squeezed Amelia's hand and gave her a convincing smile. “I’m sure Amelia. You are safe now. Trust me girl, Enzo never apologizes to anyone. It's weird that he even said sorry to you, yet you have only been here for a couple of days. This alone should erase all your doubts.” Amelia thought about Enzo's facial expression, he did look regretful when he said sorry. This thought alone was bringing a small smile on her lips. Zara reassurance gave Amelia relief. Amelia looked at Zara and gratefully thanked her. “It’s alright, but we should get going. Mom is really worried about you sense the news about you being in the basement. Enzo told her that you will not be working today and have the day off. Mom sent me to check up on you and see how you were doing.” Zara explains. Amelia shoved away the comforter and decided to get dressed for the day and meet Elara right away. “I want to see her.” Amelia could not stand the thought of Elara being worried for her. She treated her with such warmth and kindness like a mother does with her child. In such a short time, Elara had become a mother figure in Amelia’s life. Above all this, Amelia never had anyone worry ever since her mom died. Once her mother had passed away, she struggled to fend for herself. At the moment Amelia just wanted to go downstairs and hug Elara. She wanted to feel Elara's motherly touch and warm smiles. Zara waited for Amelia to get dressed in her grey dress that went past her knees which looked elegant on her. Amelia brushed her hair and tied up in a mid-pony tail. Once all dressed Amelia and Zara went out of the room and headed downstairs to the left corridor where the kitchen was. As soon as the girls entered the kitchen Elara spotted Amelia and gasped. “Oh my lord! Come here child, I was so worried about you!” Elara hugged Amelia so tight to herself and it was suffocating Amelia. “Elara, I can’t breathe.” Amelia managed to speak up with a tight hug. She immediately loosened her hold and took a step back. There were some tears in her eyes, the pure emotional worry for her, Amelia saw it in her eyes. Elara began inspecting Amelia’s body and was shocked by the injuries on her arm. Elara took Amelia's face and examined it for any bruises and the same thing with the rest of her body. Amelia tried to soothe her worries and told her that she was okay. But as soon as Elara's eyes landed on my arm, her eyes grew with rage. “Stubborn boy,” Elara hissed and continued to speak, “I told him that you were not the spy and were completely innocent. But he paid no attention to what I said.” Elara says with a frown face. Amelia hugged Elara warmly. “It's OK. I am fine. As long as he believes that I am not the spy in his pack, I will be fine.” Amelia says comfortingly to Elara. Amelia reassured her that she was okay. After a few moments Elara nodes and turned around “Have a seat my child,” Elara pulls out a chair for Amelia. “We are almost ready for lunch.” Amelia seated herself on the chair as Zara brought her tray full of fresh and warm food. There was chicken, rice, salad and potatoes along with a glass of juice and water. As Amelia was digging into her food, she watched Zara and Elara work in the kitchen with the rest of the omega girls. While eating, Amelia suddenly choked on her bite due to Zara's sudden question. “Mom, why are Niccolo and Whitmore's rivals in the werewolf world? Why do we hate each other so much? Because I thought our rivalry was with Federico. I know that both alphas are strong packs in the werewolf world, and both are huge business successes in the human world so why is it that we don't see eye to eye? What's the reason?” Zara's question halted everyone in the kitchen. Everyone stopped what they were doing, even Elara. Amelia nearly choked on her bite that was in her mouth. She put down her spoon and drank her water. Zara and Elara looked over at her, concerned. Amelia shook her hand signaling that she was okay. Elara took a deep breath, “dear it's a long story, we go way back” Amelia straighten herself up preparing herself for history lesson. There were times she also wanted to know her family were rivals with Niccolo. She never understood the main reason, it seemed like she only knew as much as Zara did. Maybe even less than her. Amelia had always known that Niccolo and Whitmore hated each with every bone in their body. The hate was with fierce passion, but unknown to the reason why. There were times she would accidently overhear Victor and Argus talking about how they wanted to eliminate the Niccolo’s if they ever get the chance. Wipe them out completely from the earth surface and burry them deep in the ground. “I am wondering the same. Why do we have such hatred for one another” Amelia gently spoke, and kept her curiosity to a minimal. She did not want them suspecting anything of her identity or it could end her life. She had just escaped from the basement and had no plans of ever going back down there. Elara looked confused as to what Amelia asked, at that moment Amelia decided to clarify herself quickly, “I mean, word has it that the hate runs so deep, that if Federico had the chance to kill us, they would. When Alpha Enzo thought I was their spy, the alpha, beta, delta and his two best warriors were really furious. So I was just curious.” Amelia explained herself. Elara found herself explaining to the young girls about the history of Niccolo and Whitemores. “It's true that we hate them, in both worlds; human and werewolf. But the rivalry runs much better than just territorial dominance and business competition.” Elara walked towards the girls and sat between Amelia and Zara, as the other omegas circled in to listen in. “You were a baby Zara, so there isn’t a way you could remember what happened. The two packs always fought with each other, nothing really serious, just two alphas not seeing eye to eye. Couldn’t be allies, one alpha always wanted more dominance and authority over the other. At one point, Niccolo stopped negotiating with the Whitemores and stopped all forms of contact with them. But one night changed everything….nothing was the same anymore.” Elara began the tale as they all listened in. “What happened mom?” Zara asked her mother in a low voice. “Argus trespassed the territory with his pack warriors and an army of rogues.” Lena says, and continues to tell them about the past. “We were heavily outnumbered, and Enzo's father wasn’t home either. He was at a business meeting in the human world, far from the territory. Argus and Varkas Federico, the alpha of the rogues, attacked us.” Amelia was stunned when she heard the name Federico. Federico, Varkas Federico? That means, Victor is the son? I was engaged to an Alpha of the Rouge’s son. Amelia thought this was news to her. As Elara was telling the story, tears slipped in her eyes. “We were unprepared, and they used that strategy against us. There were dead bodies and blood everywhere. So many of our pack members, warriors died that night. Even Enzo's mother. Poor Isadora. She was killed that night as well. And it was Varkas and Argus who had killed her, mercilessly. And it was not just her, but also her unborn child. They killed them senselessly with a knife, with the blade dripping of wolfsbine.” Elara was fully crying now, remembering that night as if it was just yesterday there was bloodshed. “Argus held on to Isadora arms behind her back, firmly so that she could not protect her baby. At that moment Varkas had clearly aimed at the woman and her child. He effortlessly had a clear shot. Varkas stabbed Isadora to death, and once she was dead she cut her stomach open and killed her baby. leaving them both lifless of the floor. Once Varkas and Argus had killed them, Argus went back to check up on the rogues while Varkas wrote a message on the wall with their blood ‘let this be a lesson for you, never reject me.’” Elara broke down into unleashed tears, the sound of her cries filled the room. Amelia's eyes widened and the air felt heavy on her shoulders. Her stomach twisted in pain and she could not swallow any more food. Her hunger was gone, replaced with anxiety. She felt that whatever she ate, she would throw up. Amelia felt suffocated in the kitchen, like she was in a very small dungeon, with all four walls caving in on her. She could only hear one sentence repetitively in her head.. Varkas and Argus killed Enzo’s mother and his unborn sibling. This meant that Amelia's stepfather and fiance father were responsible for this war that has been going on for decades. Amelia desperately wanted to leave the room and get some fresh air. The air was poisoning her existence in the kitchen, Amelia felt that the suffocation would kill her. As more truth relieved it made sense to her why Niccolo despised Whitemores. It all made sense. Amelia fumbled with her fingers, as she did her best to sit up straight after the truth was revealed to her. “Isadora was close to her delivery time. Two weeks till her baby date was due, Isadora and Alaric were really excited. They wanted their second baby's gender to be a surprise….but that night surprised us all. And now we will never know.” Elara continued telling the story through her snobs. “And poor Enzo, he saw everything with his own eyes. The murder of his mother and his sibling. Isadora had hidden him away way back in her closet and shut it. But in some way, Enzo silently crawled out and peeked a little from the slit for the closet. After that night he was never the same again. Nothing was ever the same. Darkness had filled this mansion. Enzo and Alaric were never the same again. Eventually we all moved on, but those two still hold grudges against one another. ” Amelia's face had tears streaming down her eyes. She was in pain after hearing the story behind the war. How could they be so heartless? Killing an innocent pregnant woman and her unborn child? Amelia wanted to cry out aloud, but just was not able to voice out anything. This new piece of information revealed why Enzo is the way he is. Now everything was clear, why she was his biggest enemy that Enzo wanted dead. Amelia knew that Enzo will kill her if he ever found out the truth of her real identity as Whitmore. “Enzo did not speak to anyone for years.” Amelia was broken out of her thoughts as Elara continued the story. “Did not show any emotion, and Alaric. He was never the same. He totally shut down. When Enzo began to speak, his first words were ‘My mother will have justice. I will kill every Federico that walks the earth.’”Amelia choked on her breath. This meant that Enzo would not let her live. Elara choked on her tears, took a napin and wiped them with her hands. “Your father also died that night, Zara, he did his best to protect Isadora but they both died that night. I didn’t just lose my husband, but also my mate. My other half.” The kitchen was silent, you could only hear Elara and her cries as it filled the room. Amelia took her trembling hand to her mouth and muffled her crying voices. Goosebumps began undergoing her skin as her body shivered and trembled. “I hope Enzo kills them all.” Elara says as she continued to wipe her tears angrily as Amelia breath hitched. “They all deserve to die, every last one of them. They are nothing but murders and their time should be ended. And I have complete faith in Enzo. He will live up to his word.” Elara’s words were a slap to Amelia's face, indirectly they also wanted her dead because at the end of the day she was a Whitmore and nothing could change that. No one could change this reality. Amelia quickly stood up from her chair and the quick whoosh made the chair fall backwards and onto the floor. Amelia brought her hand to her stomach, gently and tried to get off the sick feeling like vomiting out all that she ate. Elara and Zara looked over at her, Amelia thought they were thinking like she was crazy. I am losing my mind, Amelia thought. Breathe Amelia, Breathe. Relax, do not let them suspect anything. Amelia gasped and the stomach began to increase. She needed some air and fast. At this time, Amelia knew that she was having a panic attack. Amelia stumbles a little bit. “Amelia? You okay?” Zara asked and Elara began to worry. She quickly got up from her seat and rushed to Amelia. Amelia felt cold, like her soul left her body. Need…air…fresh…Need to go...outside. Now. Amelia quickly swirled around but before she could escape the kitchen, she bumped into something hard and bounced back. As she stumbled backwards, a strong hand gripped her arm and held her in place. Having her stand up straight again. Amelia's vision blurred as her head began to get dizzy. She felt herself rolling back slightly. Amelia did her best to see past the blurry vision and saw those Blood-red eyes. She instantly knew who those eyes belonged to. Enzo. Amelia whimpered in fear and pain. Elara words were echoing in my head. “Enzo vowed to kill every Federico.” And Amelia was a Whitmore.
