Chapter 1: Desperate Measures
Lena's heart pounded as she ran through the dark woodland. Branches scratched her face, however she failed to care. Her own family became in danger, and he or she needed assistance rapidly.
She burst into a clearing, gasping for air. Ahead stood a massive log cabin, light spilling from its windows. This needed to be the place.
Lena stumbled up the steps and banged at the door. "Please! I need help!"
The door swung open. A tall, muscular guy with piercing blue eyes appeared down at her. This changed into Alpha Marcus, leader of the most powerful werewolf pack. In the location.
Lena's legs gave out. She fell to her knees, looking up at him with tears in her eyes. "Please," she whispered. "They're going to hurt my family. You're my only desire."
Marcus's face softened. He reached right down to help her up, his strong palms gentle. "Come inside. Tell me what is going on."
As Lena entered the warm cabin, she felt eyes on her. Turning, she saw every other man watching from the trees. His darkish eyes had been cold, his face unreadable. This became Alpha Damien, the leader of the rival.
Lena shivered. Why did he become right here? And why did she sense this sort of robust pull toward him, at the same time as he became away?
Marcus led her to a comfortable living room and sat her on a soft couch. He surpassed her with a cup of tea, which she took with shaking arms.
"Now," he said gently, "inform me everything."
Lena took a deep breath. "It started weeks in the past..."
As she spoke, Marcus listened carefully. His blue eyes never left her face. When she finished, he nodded slowly.
"I permit you to," he said. "But you need to recognize. My help comes at a rate."
Lena's heart sank. "What type of rate?"
Marcus leaned ahead. "The Elders were pressuring me to find a mate. To produce an heir. If I help you, you will need to agree to be that mate."
Lena gasped. Become his mate? Bear his child? But... Her own family...
"I..." she stammered.
Suddenly, the cabin door burst open. Alpha Damien strode in, his dark eyes flashing.
"You cannot significantly be considering this," he growled.
Lena's heart raced. Why did his voice affect her so much?
Marcus stood, facing Damien. "This is none of your concern."
"It has become my situation whilst you decided to meddle in affairs that do not contain you," Damien snapped.
As the second Alphas glared at each other, Lena felt torn. Marcus becomes supplying to store her family. But something approximately Damien referred to as her very soul.
What was she going to do?
Lena's mind raced. Her circle of relatives becomes at risk. Marcus was presenting help. But at what cost?
She looked up at Marcus, her voice trembling. "If I agree... You'll guard my own family?"
Marcus nodded solemnly. "You have my phrase as Alpha. No damage will come to them."
Damien growled low in his throat. "You cannot trust him, Lena. He most effectively desires you for an inheritor."
Lena's head snapped towards Damien. How did he recognize her call?
Marcus's eyes narrowed. "And what do you care, Damien? You've by no means shown a hobby in supporting each person however you."
Damien's jaw clenched. For a moment, Lena thought she saw an ache flash in his eyes. But it became long gone so quickly, she ought to have imagined it.
"I..." Lena's voice shook. "I need time to suppose."
Marcus nodded. "Of direction. But take into account, time isn't always for your own family's facet."
As if to emphasize his point, Lena's phone buzzed. She pulled it out with trembling hands and examined the message. Her face faded.
"What is it?" Marcus asked a problem in his voice.
"It's my sister," Lena whispered. "They've taken her."
Tears streamed down Lena's face. She appeared up at Marcus, desperation in her eyes. "I'll do it. I'll be your mate. Just please, shop for my own family!"
Marcus's face softened. He reached out to touch her cheek lightly. "I will provide you with my phrase. They may be secure."
As Lena nodded, accepting her destiny, she felt an extraordinary pull in her chest. She grew to see Damien watching her, his darkish eyes extreme.
For a second, the world appeared to fade away. There changed into the handiest Damien, his gaze burning into her soul. Lena felt her breath capture. What makes sense?
Then Marcus stepped among them, breaking the relationship. "I'll make the arrangements. You'll be secure right here, Lena."
As Marcus left the room, Lena discovered herself alone with Damien. The air crackled with anxiety.
Damien took a step closer, his voice low. "You do not need to do that, Lena. There are different approaches."
Lena shook her head, preventing tears. "There's no time. My own family needs help now."
Damien's hands clenched at his sides. He appeared like he wanted to say extra, however alternatively, he became and strode out of the cabin.
As the door slammed at the back of him, Lena felt a bit of her heart go along with him. But why? She barely knew him.
What had she gotten herself into?
Days exceeded in a blur. Lena felt numb as she went through the motions of preparing to come to be Marcus's mate. Her family was safe now, however at what cost?
She stood at the cabin's porch, staring out at the forest. The cool breeze did little to calm her racing thoughts.
Suddenly, she felt a presence in the back of her. Turning, she located Damien watching her, his dark eyes unreadable.
"What are you doing right here?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Damien took a step nearer. "I could not live away. Lena, you want to understand..."
Before he ought to end, a crash came from in the cabin. Lena whirled around to look at Marcus stumbling, a broken vase at his feet.
Without questioning, Lena rushed to help him. As she steadied Marcus, her hand brushed in opposition to his arm. A jolt of strength shot through her, making her gasp.
What changed into that? She appeared up at Marcus, careworn. His blue eyes had been huge with marvel.
A low growl made them both flip. Damien stood inside the doorway, his face a mask of anger and... Ache?
"I see you've made your choice," he stated, his voice tough.
Lena shook her head. "No, I... It's not like that."
But Damien is already turning away. As he reached the forest's side, he paused. Looking again at Lena, his eyes softened for only a moment.
"Be cautious, Lena," he said softly. "All is not as it seems."
Then he becomes long gone, melting into the shadows of the trees.
Lena's heart ached. Why did his departure harm so much?
Marcus's voice broke through her thoughts. "Lena, we need to talk."
She grew to come to face him, trying to ignore the lingering feeling of Damien's gaze.
Marcus led her to the residing room, his face serious. "There's something you need to know about your own family's scenario. Something I've saved from you."
Lena's breath stuck. "What do you mean?"
Marcus took a deep breath. "The chance in your circle of relatives... It's now not what you think. There's a prophecy..."
Before he may want to maintain, a howl breaks up the air. Both Lena and Marcus jumped to their feet.
"That's Damien's pack.," Marcus growled. "They're underneath the attack."
Lena's heart raced. Damien changed into it by chance. She needed to assist him!
But as she moved towards the door, Marcus grabbed her arm. "You can not go out there. It's too dangerous."
Lena appeared up at him, torn. She had promised to be his mate. But Damien...
As some other howl echoed through the nighttime, Lena made her choice. She pulled away from Marcus and ran out the door, her heart leading her towards Damien.
