Anne has always been a girl who finds comfort in silence. Unlike others, she never cared about attention, appearances, or being the center of every gathering. Living her peaceful life in Islamabad, she believed she understood herself and the world around her.

But when her cousin Zain returns to stay with her family, her carefully balanced routine begins to change. Zain, the complete opposite of Anne — warm, expressive, and full of life — enters her quiet world unexpectedly.

A single glance from an upstairs window becomes the beginning of a story neither of them expected. As two different personalities collide, will they continue to remain strangers, or will they discover that sometimes the person who disrupts your peace is the one who brings a new meaning to your life?

Chapter I: Anne
The classroom was filled with the soft whispers of students, the occasional sound of pages turning, and the faint hum of the ceiling fans. Sunlight streamed through the large windows, falling over the neatly arranged desks and creating a warm glow across the room. Some students were hurriedly finishing their notes, while others kept glancing at the clock, silently waiting for the lecture to end.At the front of the class, Ma'am Zara stood with a marker in her hand, explaining the final points of the lesson. Her serious expression made it clear that she expected everyone's attention, even though most of the students were already eager to leave. "Class dismissed!" Ma'am Zara announced, casting a stern glance at the students who had been eagerly pleading for the class to end. Upon hearing her words, the students let out a collective sigh of relief. "Hey Anne, let's stop by the nearby shop to pick up the dress I'll be wearing for the upcoming wedding," Rabia suggested while Anne packed her belongings. Anne looked at her friend and raised an eyebrow. "Again? Rabia, I think you have checked that dress at least ten times already." Rabia laughed. "Because it's my cousin's wedding, Anne. Everything has to be perfect. I can't just show up wearing anything." "You and your obsession with looking perfect," Anne replied with a small smile. "At least I care about these things. Unlike you, who would probably wear the same simple outfit and sit quietly in a corner throughout the whole event," Rabia teased. Anne gave her a calm look. "And what is wrong with enjoying the food and avoiding unnecessary conversations?" Rabia shook her head, laughing. "You are impossible. Sometimes I wonder how we became friends when you are the complete opposite of me." "Maybe because you talk enough for both of us," Anne replied casually. Rabia smiled. "See? You do have a sense of humor. You just hide it from everyone." Anne continued arranging her books, a small smile appearing on her face. Rabia was one of the few people who could bring out this side of her. "Anyway, I can't come with you today. Mom asked me to reach home on time because my uncle is coming to drop off his son." Rabia immediately understood. "Oh, Zain is coming, right?" Anne simply nodded. "Yes." "Well, good luck dealing with someone entering your peaceful little world," Rabia teased. Anne rolled her eyes slightly. "It's not like that." "Sure, Anne. Whatever you say," Rabia replied with a knowing smile. Anne adjusted the strap of her bag and walked out of the classroom. The hallway was slowly emptying as students made their way towards the exit, their voices blending into the usual after-class chaos.Rabia waved at her before turning towards the parking area while Anne walked towards the main gate. She checked her phone and noticed a few missed calls from her mother. "She must be busy with the preparations," Anne thought. As she stepped outside the campus, the warm sunlight touched her face. She walked through the familiar streets, passing small shops and quiet corners she had seen countless times before. Anne, who had grown up in Islamabad, was an ordinary-looking girl. She was unlike the girls who spent hours grooming themselves through makeup and fashion. Her personality, however, was attractive — bold, confident, and composed. She rarely shared her emotions and preferred to keep her feelings hidden. That was the reason she often chose to sit alone during events and weddings, while her siblings and cousins laughed, talked, and enjoyed themselves at family gatherings. Anne had two brothers, Hashim and Haris, and she was the youngest sibling. Her father had moved to Islamabad for work as a bank manager, where he later got married and settled down. Meanwhile, Anne's two uncles were happy to spend their lives in Abbottabad. Her first uncle had three daughters, while her second uncle had one son, Zain. The thought of Zain staying at their house crossed her mind again. Zain was someone she had known since childhood, but their personalities were completely different. While Anne found comfort in silence and peaceful moments, Zain had always been more expressive and social. It wasn't that she disliked him. She simply wasn't used to having someone around who could disturb the quiet routine she valued. Lost in her thoughts, Anne continued walking until the familiar streets of her neighborhood came into view. As Anne stepped into the garden of her house, she immediately noticed the unusual liveliness around her. The normally calm home was filled with the sounds of preparations, footsteps, and conversations. The sweet aroma of her mother's cooking drifted through the air, making the surroundings feel warm and welcoming.Anne entered the house and placed her bag on the side table before walking towards the kitchen. The kitchen was not large or luxurious, but it carried a familiar warmth. The wooden cabinets, neatly arranged jars of spices, and the soft sound of utensils created a comforting atmosphere. The smell of freshly prepared food filled the room, making it feel like the heart of the house. Her mother moved between the stove and the counter, carefully arranging everything and making sure every little detail was perfect. "Anne, dear, I told you to arrive on time. There is still so much to do, and your uncle and aunt will be arriving soon," her mother said gently. Anne gave a small apologetic smile. "Mama, the class got extended. I'm sorry for being late." Her mother handed her a glass of juice. "Here, drink this first. You must be tired." Anne accepted it. "Thanks, Mama." Her eyes moved around the kitchen, noticing all the preparations. "You really made so much food. Are you expecting the whole family to come?" Her mother smiled. "Your uncle and aunt are coming after so long. I want everything to be ready and comfortable for them." Anne leaned slightly against the counter. "By the way, where are Haris and Hashim? They should be helping you." Her mother laughed softly. "Hashim is still at work, and Haris said he will come back before dinner. You know your brothers, they always find a way to arrive at the last moment." Anne smiled faintly. "That's true. Both of them are the same." Her mother looked at her lovingly. "And you are different. Always quiet, always noticing everything." Anne looked away with a small smile. "Now go and clean the guest room. Zain will be staying there," her mother reminded her. Anne nodded and walked towards the guest room. The maid had already swept the floor and cleaned the space, leaving only a few things for Anne to arrange. She carefully changed the bedsheet, dusted the cupboard, wiped the side tables, and arranged the small items neatly. She adjusted the curtains, placed fresh covers on the pillows, and checked the room one last time. Her mother always believed that guests should feel welcomed, and Anne had grown up watching her pay attention to the smallest details. After arranging everything, Anne placed a few books on the table and filled the water jug, making sure the room had everything her cousin might need. Opening the window, Anne let the fresh air flow into the room. She stood there quietly, feeling the gentle breeze against her face. The soft rustling of the leaves brushed by the wind created a peaceful melody. From the upstairs window, Anne looked down at the neighborhood. The view from above made everything seem calmer. Children were playing cricket in the street, teenagers were riding their bicycles, and the familiar evening sounds filled the surroundings. A small smile appeared on Anne's face as she noticed her Persian cat, Grezy, gracefully climbing a tree in the garden. She watched her cat's playful movements for a moment, lost in the simple beauty of the scene. Her gaze slowly moved from Grezy towards the entrance gate. That was when she noticed someone standing there. Zain. His parents had already entered the house, leaving him near the gate. He stood quietly, looking around his surroundings.Anne hadn't realized they had arrived. As if sensing someone's presence, Zain slowly looked up. Their eyes met. For a moment, everything around them seemed to fade. The sounds of the neighborhood, the movement of people, and even the rustling leaves became distant. Anne stood by the window, slightly surprised that he had noticed her. Zain looked up at her with a calm expression, equally caught off guard by the unexpected moment. Neither of them spoke. They simply looked at each other — two people who had always been different, meeting again under the quiet evening sky.
