The Carrier

Ding ding, I woke up to the ding of my doorbell. I didn't even know if worked till now, when I got deliveries the workers would always knock. Ding ding it goes off again. "I'm coming I yell" as I crumb off the couch and almost fall flat on my face.

Ding ding the door bell goes off one more time before I reached the door. "Hello" I yell when I yank open the door. There was a tall man with a big vase of roses. The vase was over flowing, there had to be at least three or four dozen roses crammed into this tiny crystal looking vase. "Is your name Alex? If you are these are for you" the man said before shoving the bundle into my hands and turning to walk back to his car.

As I turn to go back into the living room I noticed a small pink envelope attached to the roses. Before setting the vase on the counter top I plucked the small note out and went back to the couch. Slowly I slide my finder in the envelope flap to break the seal. Inside was a cream color card with purple and gold trim. The card read "I'm sorry, Eddy" I threw the card on the floor as soon as I seen who it was from. My mind went blink as I rested my head in my hands on my lap.

A few minutes past when my phone rang. I thought it was going to be that bastard calling me to see if I got his gift. To my surprise the caller ID read Mr. Jones office. "s**t" I say as I look at the clock I am almost an hour late for my Monday shift. I pressing the accept call button and slowly pressed the cold phone to my ear.

Clearing my throat. "Hello"

"Alex this is Mr. Jones. You are an hour late for your office shift can you explain yourself?"

"I had a lot of things going on this weekend I forgot to set my alarm to wake."

"Alex this was the last straw you have been late 4 times this month. I'm sorry to say but you are no longer welcome back to my office, have a nice day"

Click is all I heard when the phone disconnected.

It's been four weeks since I've lost my job. I was debating on going to look for another job but there is no use if I'm already pregnant, no job will hire a pregnant woman. Day in and day out I sit waiting. By now there are over 4 dozen roses sitting on my counter. The first two dozen is already dead and the others are started to wilt, I kind of like how they look because they remind me of the i***t thing I did. And I agreed to it.

   I can't sit around all the time I need to get my ass off this couch. I slowly made my way to my closest. I have been wearing the same sweatpants and t shirt for the past I don't know how many days and my hair is starting to look like a rats nest. I pulled out some plain black leggings and a cute black and gray plaid sweater I bought myself before all this Eddy s**t happened. I dug out my cute black wedges and laid them on my bed before heading to get a nice hot shower.

  I stood in the hot shower for way to long, my hands started to look wrinkled and the water has turned ice cold. After I turned the water off I stood still for a few more mins letting the water drip from my hair down my body. It felt like ages when I got out to blow dry my hair and got dressed.

  One last check I thought as I stood in front of the mirror. I looked much better then I looked an hour ago. But my face could say a different story, my under eye have gotten darker these past few days from lack of sleep and my lips are cracked at the edges from not drinking my regular water intake. I try and drink a gallon of water a day. I shake my head and head to my vanity.

  A little concealer and some lip-gloss and I looked good as new! I figured I would head and get a hot chocolate from the coffee shop and maybe see if I can put in a few hours with Patty at the consignment store, the holidays are just around the corner so she will need the help. I might have to stop at Bills book store as well see is he has any new reads that came in.

Before heading out I gave Ms. kitters her lunch, as I sat the bowl down the door bell rang. I hope that it's not another dozen of roses. Ding dong, it rings again. I make my way to the door, I slowly crack it open to say hello. There was a tall man in a black suit, and he had an ear peace in. He almost looked like he could be in a movie.

"May I help you?" I say swallowing the ball the firmed into my throat.

"Alex, I am here to pick you up. You have an appointment to go to." He said in a deep voice.

"What appointment?" I say trying to close the door to hide.

"Doctors ma'am. Come with me" he said has me gestures to the large black SUV waiting for up by the curb.

A doctors appointment great. How many days has it been since the last doctors visit I thought to myself getting into the car. As we start off down the road I pulled out my phone to look at my calendar, I remember putting a small red dot on that day in my phone. As I scrolled up to the top of the month there it was. I was shocked when I counted the days. I quickly shut my phone and shoved it into my pocket. My eyes got wide as I stare out the window watching the trees go by. It's been four and a half weeks since then. Just a few moments later I could see the gates at the top of the hill open up for us.

Slowly passing through the gates my heart started pounding. The thought of seeing Eddy raced though my mind. Finally the SUV stopped and the door opened up for me.

" Your lady in waiting is waiting for you just inside the door to take you to the waiting room" said the guy who opened the door. I thought to myself I wonder what his name was I didn't see any badges. Shaking the thought out of my head I met up with my lady in waiting.

"Hello Alex nice to see you again. Today is the big day!" She said in a very happy and cheerful voice. I just rolled my eyes and answered "mmm-hmm" she is way to cheery for my liking.

She guided me down the long white hallway that is all so familiar from the first time I headed down these hallways. And into the waiting room area. There was a few couches and a big comfy chair in the corner. "Wait here and a nurse will come and get you when the doctor is ready." I gave her a thumbs up as I was grabbing a glass of water from the side table.

I decided to sit in the big comfy chair in the corner. As soon as I sat down I sunk into it. I felt like I was laying on pillows. There was a few magazines on the end table so I picked out up to read. I was so relaxed I could feel my eyes getting heavy.

Today is the big appointment. Is there a little nugget there or not, I thought as my eye closed tightly and feel asleep.

"Alex, Alex" I heard with a few taps on my shoulder. Slowly I opened my eyes and seen a figure standing over me. Rubbing my eyes the image began to become clearer. "Alex, Alex" the voice got loader and I jumped out of fear. Almost hitting the figure in front of me.

"Alex Alex it's me." He said as we waved his arms in front of me. I stretched and yawned. Sr Eddy didn't expect to see him so soon.

"Hi" I said in a disgusted voice.

"One of the nurses seen you sleeping and came and got me to be with you she said you looked kind of pale have you been feeling alright." I could hear the concern in his voice.

"These past few weeks could of been better I guess." I say as I folded my arms.

"Alex I am truly sorry. I am can you forgive me?"

I could see his eyes start to fill with tears. I really want to forgive him but I really want to get this done and over with. "Eddy lets just see if it stuck or not ok when is the stupid doctor ready I want to go home" I started to get angry but sick to my stomach at the same time.

" He is ready now Alex"

Fallowing Eddy's lead I walk into the room where we did the insemination at. There the doctor stood waiting. "hello Alex I need you to undress from the waist down and the nurse will be right in to take a blood sample from you." I nod in agreement. "I will be right back in the the ultrasound Machine." He added as he walked out the door.

"Eddy do you mind? Can ya turn around" I said as I make a circle motion with my finger.

"O sorry yes Alex I will turn around let me know when your done"

Once I folded up my leggings onto the chair across from the table I sit with a thin paper cover on my legs. He has enough money he could invest in a blanket or something I thought to myself. "Ready" I say Eddy didn't have time to sit when the nurse walked in.

"Hello Alex. We are gonna take some blood and run a full blood test and pregnancy test as well to see if you are pregnant. While we are waiting for this to process the doctor will be doing an ultrasound." I nod as she starts to poke my arm with the needle to draw the blood.

Out of the corner of my eye I could see eddy look away. How can he be a father and hate the sight of blood kids are going to get scraped knees once in a while. And a min later it was all done and over with now just to wait for the doctor to come back.

The room was silent. I could hear the clock on the wall ticking away the seconds. I glanced at eddy, he was looking into his hand twiddling his thumbs round and round. He is acting so nervous. This is a big day for him. I need to be more easy on him. Maybe I shouldn't be so uptight. That thought went away when the door opened again this time it was the doctor back with the machine.

"Alright Alex what I'm going to have you do is lay back and put your feet into the stirrups." He said holding up a dildo looking handle." If you are pregnant we will have to do a vaginal ultrasound. I would estimate you at being 5 weeks pregnant if you are. This might be a little cold but it will warm up." He said as he slide the device inside of me while clicking a few buttons and brought the picture up on the screen.

"Alright Alex, eddy" he said while pointing to the screen. " this is your cervix it's looks great. O wow look at that." He sounded super excited. Looking a the screen there were two round opening with two little dots in side. "Alex, Eddy." He paused for a second. "Your definitely pregnant. Actually double pregnant."

"Wait we are having twins?" I say in a shocked voice.

Before the doctor could say yes. We heard a big thump. Eddy was on the floor.

"Nurse nurse get in here" the nurses came rushing in with a wheel chair picked eddy up and rushed him out.

I looked at the doctor, "is he going to be ok"

"Yes he will be fine. I seen this before he did the same thing when I did his wife's ultrasound they were expecting twins. Sadly she miscarried one of the twins at 20 weeks." I didn't know what to say. I was shocked and so sad at the same time. " Alex once we get to 20 weeks we can do a blood test to know the gender or we can wait till 30 weeks to do an ultrasound sound to see the gender."

"Umhmmm" is all I could get out.

"Alright Alex we are going to prescribe you some prenatal vitamins to take daily. And make sure you eat the proper food 3 meals a day plus snacks you are eating for two now" the doctor said as he finished writing in his notes and exiting the room.

I slowly got dressed and walked out to the waiting room. Eddy with sitting on the couch with his head in his hands I could hear him crying. I walked over to him and dropped to my knees in front of him. I took his hands and wrapped his arms around my belly and held his head with my hands as I looked into his eyes. "Eddy we can do this together or not I am here. I am ready for this journey together."

He slowly lifted me up off my knees to my feet. We stood embracing each other in the most loving hug. The time ticked by it felt like we were hugging for hours when he finally said, " how am I going to take care of three babies at once."

I was shocked three babies that means that Willow is pregnant as well. My twins, wow it's sounds crazy thinking them as my, and her baby makes three. I wasn't sure what to say so I hugged him tighter and said "we will get through it together"

I could hear his breath lighten as some of his fear left. " will you do it together with me? At least for the first couple months or so till I get the hang of this."

"Yes I will be here for you and with you as long as you need me." I say. But in my mind I am starting to feel different I am slowly changing my mind about Eddy. Maybe I should give him a chance. Maybe just maybe the love between us will grow. But right now it slips my mind and my stomach has started to turn on me.

"I will be right back" I try to say and I push Eddy away from me and hold my mouth. I ran as fast as I could to the nearest bathroom. I made it before it was to late. My breakfast was now in the toilet in front of me. And here it starts morning sickness.

I slowly got myself cleaned up I heard a knock at the door "Alex". "Just a minute I'll be right out" it was Eddy. He stood leaning up against the wall outside the bathroom. "I'm ok eddy I got a little sick"

"Morning sickness? Would you like some chicken noodle soup?" He asked. As he placed his hand on my belly, I laid my hand on his.

" yes please I think they might want some" I said looking at Eddy. His eyes became big and filled with joy.

"Come on lets go get you some" he said as he picked me up into his arms, I nestled my head into his chest as he walked I could hear his heart beat and every breath he took. It was not long till we made it to the dinning hall when he put me into my feet to take a seat as the table.

"All be right back." He said as we went through the kitchen doors.

I sat quite drawing circles in the tablecloth with my finger waiting for him to return.

"So are you knocked up or not" I heard someone say. I turned my head and seen Willow standing there. "I seen Eddy carrying you down the hall what was that all about?"

"I got a little sick that is all." I say.

"You know I'm knocked up found out yesterday. We are having a baby together so if your not knocked up you should go back home seeing that you weren't even here for three weeks and I was, you should go home. You know maybe when I pop this kid out I might even get to marry the prince since this baby is gonna be a royal!" She said in a nasty tone. Looking at her freshly painted nails.

   "Did you just say prince and royal?" I say in an shocked voice.

  "Yeah didn't you know Eddy is a prince? He has to have a child, a boy or he won't be king. He is fighting for his crown with are pregnancies if you are even pregnant." Willow said with a chuckle.

  "Um I got to go" I say as I stood up and walked toward the door.

  "Bye bye Alex" I heard her say as I stepped out the door. As soon as I heard the dinning room door shut I started to run. I ran to the front door. Two of the ladies maids tried to stop me from running out the door but I wouldn't stop. As I ran down the driveway it started raining. As I was running toward the gates they started to close. But I wasn't fast enough the closed before I could get out of them.

  I was so upset I grabbed onto the gate and started to shake them with anger. The metal was just shape enough to make my hands bleed. I felt defected as I let go of the gate and fell to the ground. I could hear thunder rolling in from the distance as I closed my eyes and curled up into a ball.
