River's POV:
Watching Mari react to me even in slight fear made my heart break. It felt like the first time we had met. I love her so much deeper now. I couldn't handle it. It set my whole body on edge. I lifted her into my arms and carried her back upstairs to our bed. Once I set her down, I placed my forehead against hers and shut my eyes.
"Let me share my healing with you again." I hated that she could be hurt so easily and couldn't even heal herself yet. What a cruel thing to make her go through. What was the Goddess thinking? I felt her nod slightly, and I focused on my inner wolf. Help our mate. I thought as I felt the slight rush of power move from me into her. It was an odd feeling. It made my insides panic slightly. Like I was giving away all my healing and would be weak.
