Rejected Before the Throne
The night air was filled with celebration.
Music echoed through the pack grounds, laughter rising into the sky as wolves gathered to witness what was supposed to be the most important moment of my life.
My coronation.
My destiny.
Tonight, I was meant to become Luna.
My heart pounded as I stepped forward, my hands trembling slightly beneath the long silver dress that marked my place beside him.
Alpha Kael.
My mate.
My future.
Or at least… that’s what I thought.
I searched his face, hoping to find reassurance, something soft, something that told me everything was going to be okay.
But his expression was cold.
Unreadable.
And something deep inside me shifted.
“Kael…” I whispered, my voice barely audible.
He didn’t respond.
Instead, he stepped forward, his presence commanding immediate silence from the entire crowd.
Every eye turned to him.
Waiting.
Watching.
“This ceremony will not continue,” he announced.
The words hit like a slap.
A murmur spread through the crowd instantly, confusion rising like a storm.
My heart skipped.
“What…?” I started, my voice shaking.
Kael didn’t look at me.
Not once.
“I, Alpha Kael, reject you, Lira, as my mate.”
The world stopped.
Completely.
Silence fell, heavy and suffocating, as his words echoed over and over again in my mind.
Reject.
Reject.
Reject.
My chest tightened painfully, like something inside me had shattered beyond repair.
“No…” I whispered, my legs weakening beneath me. “You can’t—”
But before I could finish—
A hand slipped into his.
Not mine.
Hers.
A woman stepped forward, her lips curved into a satisfied smile as she stood proudly beside him.
Alina.
The crowd gasped.
Shock.
Whispers.
Judgment.
Everything crashed down on me at once.
“She will stand beside me as Luna,” Kael continued.
Each word felt like a knife.
Public humiliation.
Betrayal.
Pain.
I could barely breathe.
Tears burned my eyes, but I refused to let them fall.
Not here.
Not in front of everyone.
Not when they were all watching me break.
“Why…?” I managed to ask.
This time, he looked at me.
But there was nothing in his eyes.
Nothing.
“You’re not worthy.”
Those three words destroyed everything.
And in that moment—
As the crowd turned against me, as whispers of pity and mockery filled the air—
I realized something terrifying.
I had lost everything.
But what they didn’t know…
Was that this wasn’t the end of my story.
It was only the beginning. 😈🔥
