Chapter 46

804 Words

The silver in my veins began to tingle. It was a strange feeling, like tiny needles pricking my skin from the inside. It happened whenever I thought about my anger. I had to stay calm. I closed my eyes and tried to think of something peaceful. I thought about the forest after a rainstorm. I thought about the smell of the pine trees and the sound of the wind. I thought about the way Kael looked when he was asleep. Those thoughts helped, but the tingle did not go away completely. It stayed there, a constant reminder of the power that was waiting to be let out. The footsteps were moving closer to the kitchen wing. That was where the stairs to this cellar were located. My stomach did a slow roll. I pressed my back against the cold stone wall. I tried to make myself as small as possible.
