Chapter 6:The Zombie Horde Trap

933 Words
The journey back to the Blaze Association’s base went smoothly, with only a few scattered zombies causing minor disturbances along the way. Luo Kun, unable to sit still, demonstrated his pinpoint accuracy by taking out fifteen ordinary zombies in just over ten minutes, earning 150 armory points. In less than an hour, the armored vehicle arrived at the Blaze Association’s base. Passing through a plain iron gate, they were greeted by several large, interconnected shipping containers. The base was hidden beneath the rusted metal, not the safest but structurally sound. Under the guidance of the kind-hearted Lorin, Luo Kun toured the base hidden within the containers and greeted the gathered adventurers. The base was much larger than Luo Kun had imagined, with facilities like a shooting range, an armory, a bar, and storage areas already in place. The containers were surrounded by thick concrete walls, with rusted heavy machine guns mounted atop them. If zombies approached, the scouts would immediately open fire. Overall, the base’s defenses were barely passable. Most of the association members were cold toward Luo Kun, the new core member, with some even showing subtle disdain and resentment. Luo Kun could only shrug helplessly and help himself to a bottle of premium dark beer from the bar. What a great drink! In his previous life, he had never tasted such pure dark beer. As the alcohol warmed his body, a sense of satisfaction washed over him. Just then, a young drunkard reeking of alcohol stumbled over. "New guy, let’s play a game. Shoot the caps off bottles. For every bottle you break, you drink one." The drunk shoved a rusted, unidentifiable pistol into Luo Kun’s hands. As soon as Luo Kun gripped the pistol, his slightly tipsy mind sharpened. He raised the gun and fired six shots in rapid succession before holstering it. With a series of crisp gunshots, the caps of ten beer bottles lined up on a table ten meters away were blown off, leaving the bottles intact. The adventurers who had been whispering about Luo Kun fell silent, staring in awe. They hadn’t expected this skinny newcomer to possess such precise and powerful marksmanship. Even Liu Zihai, the association’s best shooter, occasionally missed this challenge! The drunk, impressed by Luo Kun’s skill, immediately downed his bottle. Soon, a group of burly men, all taller than Luo Kun, approached him, begging for shooting tips. … At 2:20 PM, all members of the Blaze Association, except for the support staff left to guard the base, donned their protective suits and boarded military trucks. The giant zombie causing havoc across the country had recently been spotted in northern Shaanxi. From the Blaze Association’s base, it would take at least a day to reach the destination. Fortunately, the Blaze Association’s ally, the Survival Association, had set out a day earlier and mapped out the route. Perhaps because the Survival Association had cleared most of the zombies along the way, the Blaze Association encountered almost no threats. In this eerily quiet environment, the adventurers arrived at their destination an hour ahead of schedule and quickly set up camp for the night. With no immediate tasks, Luo Kun didn’t idle. He circled the newly established camp, confirming that there were indeed signs of human activity nearby. "Something’s not right," Luo Kun muttered, shaking his head. He had a vague sense that a great crisis was approaching. Just as he was debating whether to expand his inspection range, the familiar system notification sounded in his ears. [Host, a large number of dormant zombies have been detected nearby. A zombie horde crisis is likely to erupt at your current coordinates within five minutes!] [Main mission updated: Resolve the crisis within one hour of the horde’s outbreak.] [Advanced mission: Kill 20 ordinary zombies with a dagger (Reward: Mystery Weapon Blind Box!)] Luo Kun felt slightly reassured. To grab the adventurers’ attention, he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Everyone, send scouts to high ground! Based on my experience, there’s definitely a zombie horde lurking nearby!" The adventurers, who had just finished setting up camp and were leisurely building a bonfire to cook, were immediately drawn to Luo Kun’s voice. Zhang Jinzha, who had been smiling, suddenly froze. "Brother Luo, in our line of work, trust and loyalty are everything. Old Li from the Survival Association is a brother I’ve been through life and death with. His people have already scouted this area—it’s completely safe." While sending scouts to high ground with binoculars, Zhang tried to patiently explain to Luo Kun. By now, Luo Kun had already drawn his trusted Flaming AK47, ready to fire at any moment. Sure enough, less than five minutes later, the scouts returned with a "big surprise." The trembling scout leader hurriedly handed Zhang Jinzha a digital camera with a recorded video. The footage showed countless trembling zombies lying in several large pits, clearly man-made. These filthy creatures seemed to have just awakened from a killing slumber, their powerful revival energy rapidly breaking through the seals. "I’ve really been screwed this time," Zhang Jinzha muttered, his previously calm face now flushed with anger. This large-scale hypnosis technique was a signature move of the Survival Association. In the past, they had often used it to assist the Blaze Association in completing high-difficulty missions. Zhang never expected them to use this trick against him now! The Blaze Association’s camp was located at the center of a perfect circle, with the zombie-filled pits forming a closed loop around it. This forced them to disperse their firepower, greatly increasing the difficulty of defense.
