Aurora and I rushed through the halls to get to our classes, she pointed to mine as she dunked into her. My feet crossed the doorway right before the last bell. People were still making their way to seats so I headed to the back row by the windows. My heart racing with the news of finding my childhood friends. I cannot believe this is where their mom’s pack was this whole time. Knowing they came to help take care of her father before he passed, and then I never heard from them again.
After a few minutes the class settled, and the teacher started in on the lesson for the day. This class is one that will be a bird’s course for me, numbers were just easy. After about twenty minutes of leacher the teacher handed out worksheet and we were to finish before the bell and turn in. Almost halfwaythrough my sheet I feel someone looking at me. You know that feeling, the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Your whole body is on caution for something to happen kind of thing. Glancing up I see movement to the right of me. Slowly facing that way, I see this beautiful male. His arms we not even close to the size of Mr. McHottness but, he had the arms of an athlete maybe soccer. His blonde hair longer on top slicked back and tied into a knot on his head. The lightest blue eyes on a male that I have ever seen. That smile though, I have seen it before. I just cannot picture where.
“So, you are the new girl huh?” he questioned in the silkiestvoice that should be a sin to be able to have as a teenager. Nodding my head, I turn back to my work. “You don’t have much to work with. Though I have to say you are still beautiful.” He said to me. Pushing aside that this man that is beautiful himself just called me that, my inner competitor came forth. “Is that your best shot at a back handed compliment? And does that really work for you normally?” I ask him making sure to turn and look him in the eye. Yes, I know most shifters you cannot do that without either being above them or looking for a death wish. But he did not know that I knew that he was below me.
“you are not that model kind of beauty but, you are beautiful. The thing is that your eyes give away that you are broken.” He said as he shrugged his shoulders and turned back toward the front. Wow, this guy is a real piece of work. “And who are you?” I made sure to add the most sugar I could to my voice. Kill him with kindness. I cannot kill this poor fool on my first day. Grams will have my tail if I do.
“Oh, sweetie, my name is Shane. Of the White Creek Pack.” He said with such attitude like I should know of him. “No worries little one you will learn more soon.”
Facing the front of the room again I grip the desk and see the white knuckles. I could rip this off and beat him over the head with it. Yeah that would be great. No, no Grams would not be happy that way either. Making myself get back to my work I finish just when the bell rings. Thank goodness, this being responsible and making sure not to get into trouble is hard work.
I grab all my things and make my way out to my locker, after putting in my book and shutting I stand to look for Aurora. I must tell her what I just encountered. As if she knew I was talking about her she appeared right along with Alex. It is just unfair with how beautiful these two are. Walking up to them the biggest smile ever is on Alex face. He swings his arm over my shoulders and pulls me in close. “I thought I was just dreaming in class again. But here you are.” He said while walking me toward what looks to be the cafeteria. “And I cannot tell you how happy that makes me” He whispered in my ear. Now it is me that is smiling.
“You always were the charmer” I laughed at his pretend hurt feelings while laying his hand over his heart. “I am only trying to charm you sweetheart” he said. Gathering our food, I followed them toward a table in the back. Not a whole lot of choices it seems that this school is just as any other. Clicks were not hard to figure out who was what. Even when we sat at the table, I knew just looking at everyone there, they were part of a pack. I just did not know which ones.
Sitting down I was between the twins with Allen on my left. That boy’s plate was three times filled as mine and he just dug right in. Aroura pulled my attention to her by asking,” so do tell what’s going on? Why are you here?” I should have known she wouldn’t wait to get answers from me. This girl did not have any patience at all. “I moved here with Grams and Gramps just a few weeks ago. “I answered starting to move food around my plate. She reached out and touched my shoulder, I looked up into her eyes hoping to let her see I cannot talk about it right now. Nodding just a little we both went back to our food.
“Yes, please Alex tell us who and why this thing is at our table?” spoke a platinum blonde girl as she sits down. She had on way too many layers of makeup and not enough clothes. What is it with she-wolfs? Wearing a see-through shirt with a purple bra under that is tucked into a high waisted Mini skirt that stopped at the start of her cheeks. And I don’t mean on her face. I didn’t take my eyes off this hussy while Alex spoke, “First of all, you will not ever speak to her that way again. Her NAME is Lakyn and she is from our old pack. “He growled when he spoke to her. “Well, that doesn’t give her any rights to sit with us. “She then wrapped her fingers around Mr. Hottie bicep.
Starring her down with the sweetest smile ever I replied, “Can no one be original anymore, there is always someone who just has to make everything out to be status. Its high school for heaven’s sake.” The whole time I am speaking she is not even looking at me. Her left hand is against his neck playing with his hair, while her other is roaming up and down his arm. My stomach starts to feel sick, the need to punch her growing stronger. I risk a glance at the hotness, and he is starring right at me. The same look as earlier today. Turning back to the female I lock my eyes on her. “It might be the normal thing around here for the N.A.I.L to allow himself to be man handled by a low life tramp. But where I am from, we always made sure to show class.”
The female snapped her head right towards me then. Glaring into her eyes I knew from the look of her she is beneath me. Not wanting to be that way but, that is part of pack life. Never taking my eyes off hers I could see she was wavering. The smirk on my face grows as she slowly drops her eyes then head to look at the table. “It is best if you leave us now, this is not a place for your type of conversation,” I speak in my most formal tone. Grabbing her stuff, she leaves.
Allen cracks up laughing, not even trying to hide. “That was awesome!” he was laughing so hard no one could understand much else coming out of his mouth. The small girl that came up to me outside this morning spoke up, “What is N.A.I.L?” I did not even notice her here before. Aurora answered that one for me, “Next Alpha in Line, it’s something we came up with when we were little to give Lakyn a hard time.”
Oh, how I hated them teasing me about how I was going to become hateful, mean old stick in the mud. Looking back on it, I had no clue what I was supposed to be. The responsibility that comes with the title, I hated the time I had to spend following my father to learn the “family business”.
Arie spoke again, “why would that matter to her?” Both the twins looked back at me. Allen all but laughed out loud and A had worried lines on her face. None of us had a chance to answer before it was spit out at us. “Because she is an alpha herself.”
Mr. hotness finally spoke. And of course, it was not anything positive toward me. His eyes were stone cold glaring at me. The tightness of his jaw to his fisted hands laying on the table screamed angry Alpha. There is two ways this could go. One I square up to him and challenge his statement. Or I could pay it off as not a big deal. But those two options did not settle for me. My stomach was in knots thinking about going against him, and to act like I am not an Alpha is stomping all over my parent’s memory. No there was another way but, he didn’t know what he was getting into.
With the sweetest smile I could put on my face I answered, “What little ole me a big powerful alpha?” Even laying my right hand over my heart as I said it and batting my eyes. Aroura to the rescue, “You are playing the innocent now?” and Allen replied, “we both know that is so far from the truth” laughing when I smack him in his chest. The bell rings for us to go to class, never really been that thankful for that to ever happen so much before.
Keeping it a secret not only who I am but, also the power that I have is a must. I hate that I have too keep this from the twin’s hell, I hate that I even must have my grandparents involved. But there is no way they would leave me now. After dropping the trays off at the cleaning window, we all head out to class. When I round the corner, my left arm is tugged hard and I am brought around the lockers and pushed against a wall. Trying to catch my breath that was forced out of me with that push, my eyes finally look up into the ones that are stone cold. These green eyes are going to haunt my dreams for now on. Not because I feel they will hurt me. No, these are the ones I could get lost in.
They are the best part of the guy that made my heart race, my mind mush, and my body react in ways it never has. Like now. The little touch from him of just his fingers wrapped around my upper arm is so electrifying that the tingles are shoot all through my arm. I can see now out of the corner of my eye that I am hidden from view. The lockers are out too far for me to be seen. His face is so close to mine I am breathing in his breath. The smell of musk and fresh rain fills my nostrils.
“Do you think I am stupid?” he spit at me. Shaking myself I finally form an answer, “I don’t know you well enough to think that of you yet.” Mr. hotness takes a deep breath as if he is trying to stay calm. “Do you really think that I didn’t know you were an alpha the first time I laid eyes on you?” He spoke calmly but his tense shoulders gave away the anger that was in him. “I do not have to answer to you. You are NOT my Alpha.” I used his same tone on him as he did me earlier. He leaned down to where we were eye level with one another. “You are in my school, you live on my packs land, and you have my members around you all the time. Yes, you will answer to me.” He said. “Your Alpha knows, that is all I have to tell.” I spat back at him. “I do not trust you” he said in the same calming voice. As mine keeps growing he keeps as smooth as silk. Which just irritates me further. I don’t know if I want to smack him or kiss him. Putting as much anger I had in me and pushing it out and toward him he stumbles back I respond, “I wouldn’t either.” With that I walk away and go to my class late.
