But this girl is sweet and generous especially in impoverished area in their town. She always ready help whenever someone needs like selling their products, medication for their child and trouble with money. Her parents doesn't know about this since she asked those people she helped to keep her identity anonymous. She's quite famous in their town, not because of the she mess she made from her previous job or her affection for the needybut because her family owned the biggest wineries in their town. The citizens somehow asked her, why not work in their own family business? Well, she always ignores it. The truth is, Queeny doesn't like working in their winery. Instead, she choose to work where her family will not get involved and far from step mother and step siblings criticism. She first work in the chicken farm but lost the chicken she's looking after, then get fired. Then, she got into a restaurant, but always break utensils, obviously she get fired again. After that, she got another job in their town's newspaper provider. She worked there for almost three month. Suddenly, she gets fired again after she accidentally burned one the important documents of her boss. Poor Queeny. Now, she got her job in their town's library named Shimmertown's Library. It's been 10 months since she worked here. She made a lot of mistakes but the owner, Mr. and Mrs. Watson agreed with Queeny's suggestion to deduct every mistakes she made in her salary. Queeny loves to read books when she was a little girl. Her room was filled with books her mother bought when she was a little child. She beg the couple to accept the agreement because she THINKS she belongs in the library. Probably she convinced herself with that thinking but not Mr. and Mrs. Watson. It's first week of December, the town and houses was poured with different kinds of Christmas decors. The snow is already descended and people is covered with their different style of coats. Many children start to play and create snowman. Queeny cheerfully walking on the streets, enjoying the view and scent of Christmas. It's her favorite season every year. A time when she become a blessing to other people. She saw some kids playing the snow. She invited them to go in the library where she work and she promised to give them storytelling experience plus a hot chocolate. Queeny quickly runs through Shimmertown's Library when she realized she's already late. "Hello! Good morning Mr. and Mrs. Watsons!" Queeny said as she enters the library, freezing and start shaking her coat to remove some snow from her coat. "Oh hi! You're late Queen, did you greeted everyone in this town?" Mrs. Watson sarcastically asked. "You're also starting on making a mess." Mrs. Watson added. "Oh no, sorry and I'm not really late but-" "What is that about again Queeny?" Mr. Watson cut her out before she continues as he slightly pulled down his old eyeglass. "Oh yeah, what I am about to say is I saw some kids across the streets and they are wondering if--" Queeny stopped talking to observe the oldies on their reactions. "I-If they can stop by here and I'll tell them some stories and we can serve them some hot chocolate. It's really freezing outside," she continues. But the two oldies ignored her and continue whatever they are doing at the counter. "Well, I guess it's a yes," Queeny mumbled to herself. "We're selling books not some hot chocolate" Mrs. Watson said like she's talking in the wall. Queeny ignored her boss and continue marching to the locker room. She put her bag, hanged her pink coat and slowly wear her newly washed pink apron. She neatly tied her long brown curly hair and face the mirror. "Why are you so gorgeous Queeny?" she narrowed eyes and see her reflection in the mirror. She keeps on looking at her reflection as if she's waiting for an answer. When she realized she's being crazy, she gives up, shrugged and went back in the counter. Upon entering the library, she heard the discussion of her boss. "She really doesn't care if we agreed or not ha." Mrs. Watson said. "That's because she's rich she can do whatever she wants to this library. Why did you accept her?" Mr. Watson asked her wife. "You still asking me that question old man? She's been here for almost a year." "Exactly, it's almost a year and still you didn't answer this question." "Well, I don't know! She's too persistent to get this job and I thought she was good at it!" "You see it's not. She gave us too much trouble, you heard what happend to her previous job right?" Mr. Watson said and stop when she noticed Queeny is already there. "Hi, I'm ready to work now. What's the first task Ma'am, Sir?" Queeny said pretending she just get in there and felt giddy to work. "Just fix the books in shelf 3 and 4." Mrs. Watson said. Queeny agreed and start walking first to shelf 3, fictional books. "Do you think she heard us?" Mr. Watson loudly whispered to Mrs. Watson, but her wife ignores him and makes herself busy. "Well, I can hear you both," Queeny quietly said to herself. "Hello, good morning books! Kindly help me today and please don't hate me. Okay?" She said as if the books are talking to her. When she's returning some books in the racks, she noticed it is crooked. She called Mr. Watson because she thinks it needs to be fixed, but no one answers her. She tries to check whether the old couple is there so she can report it. Suddenly, her pink apron stucked upon a protrude rustic nail in the book rack. She forcefully pulled her apron from it and when it finally came out, the bookshelves slowly collapsed in front of her. She tries to stop it from falling but it's already too late to save it. She runs away from the scene but it creates a huge noise in the entire library. The other customer went panic and immediately left the library. Someboday says there's an earthquake. Queeny also in the left the scene but she saw the old couple already standing infront of her who just entered the library from going out to take their morning cigarette. "What the hell?" Mr. and Mrs. Watson said and look so clueless from what happend. "Ops! Sorry!" The only word Queeny said. Queeny gathers her things in her locker and gets her last paycheck. Yes! Queeny gets fired again. Mr. and Mrs. Watson seems too tired to give pardon for this poor young lady. She bids goodbye to the old couple and walks out the door. As she stroll around, she noticed the people staring at her and start whispering to each other. That old couple already started the rumors huh? She thought to herself. "Hi! How are you doing?" She greeted as she saw the sellers of the garments she once helped in selling it. They got shocked when they saw Queeny. They scattered and went back to their own store. Queeny is now wondering why people seems to avoid her. What does Mr. and Mrs. Watson say to the people? As she continues walking, she saw the kids she met earlier. They are still playing the snow. One of the smallest kids waved at her and Queeny went by. "Hi, Ms. Queeny!" The kid said and the other kids greeted her too. "Hi, what are you doing here? You should play inside your house. It's very cold now." Queeny asked. "We just want to finish the snow man you told us and we're talking about you." "Really? What is it about?" "We heard you get fired from your work." Queen laughed but she's faking it. She feels embarrassed to those kids. "And they said you can't do your job properly, that's why they fired you," the tallest kid continues. "Oh! Well, I'm just being too clumsy today, actually a bit." Queeny slightly defend herself and shyly laughed. "But we hope you're okay." "You're so sweet! Don't worry I gonna come by tomorrow so I can tell you some story." "No, we're fine." "W-Why?" "Because we're scared." "F-From what?" "From you!" "Why from me? You don't have to be scared. I'm not biting!" "We just don't want to be like you when we get old." Queeny didn't answer. She just looks at them and smiles. "Y-Yeah, you're right. Well, I'm off. You take care okay? Don't play too long here." She said and walk away. Queeny felt hurt by what the kids said but she's fine with it. To her family, she's what they call the black sheep. She was the daughter of her father's second wife. When she was five years old, her mother died due to a heart attack. Her father went back to his first family and get married again to her stepmother named Elizabeth. After her dad's wedding, she followed her dad to his first family. There she met her two stepsisters, Eunice and Cecilia, and one stepbrother- Benedicto. She's now twenty six years old and still, she feels unwelcome to her own family. When she arrived at home, Eunice is already standing in the door like she's waiting for Queeny to arrive. "Hi, Sis!" Queeny greeted her. "I heard you made trouble again." Eunice said raising her left eyebrow and smirk. "Hello too," Queeny said sarcastically. "Be ready with your explanation with Dad." Eunice said and went inside the house and close the door leaving Queeny behind. Queeny deeply exhaled. She knows her dad will not let her explain. She bowed her head and say a little prayer: Please! Dad is not mad at me. Everything is fine. I'm cool! She repeated several times. When the door finally opened, she saw her dad glaring at her. Okay fine he's mad. She thought to herself. "GET INSIDE! NOW!" Her dad yelled. Queeny enter the house following her dad. They went in the living room where her stepmother and step sisters sitting there. They are all having afternoon tea. Her stepbrother Benedicto, appeared from nowhere holding his toy and sits too in the living room. Her dad sits too. Now, Queeny is wondering whether she will remain standing or she will sit with the family. "You're early today darling. What happend?" Her mother said finally broke out the silence. "I know you've heard about it. Well, I get fired. But it all an accident. My apron got stucked—" Queeny said. "Enough!" Her dad stopped her from explaing. "I heard enough! How many jobs did you gets fired because your bring them trouble? When are you going to bring shame to our family? You don't even want to learn to run our own business! What is your problem Queeny? Tell me! What I am gonna do to you?" Queeny didn't answer. "I'm so tired of getting involved from all the trouble you made outside of this house Queeny. I want you to move out here." "What?" Queeny bursted. Madam Elizabeth and her daughters also get shocked. Benedicto doesn't care. "W-What I mean is you need to go somewhere. To your grandfather's house in Castleshore. Your grandfather might need you." Her dad explained. Castleshore is her mother's hometown. Queeny lived there with her father before her mother died.
