Lucas's eyes were as red as the fluid the unconscious woman was submerged in on the ground. His personal physician joined him since he had never had faith in Isabella's family physician.
With a disappointed expression, his doctor examined Isabella's pulse and said, "She won't be able to make it."
"She's not gone, though. "Take action," Lucas bellowed to the physician, hauling the bleeding Isabella into his embrace.
The doctor stood back and said, "Unless we get her to the hospital, it will be too late."
With weakness, Isabella opened her eyes and gave Lucas one last look, her thighs gushing blood on the ground.
His eyes were full of sorrow, pain, and terrible intent. With the police approaching, she wanted to tell him to go, but she was rapidly losing consciousness and could barely hear Lucas's voice saying, "I'm sorry, Isabella, but I got here too late." I can deal with it, but please don't leave me in a way that suggests you don't love me. There is no Viust without you. In the crook of her arm, he sobbed, "Please come back to me. I will murder whoever did this to you.
If only she could grant his wish, Isabella would. She tried to say something, but nothing came out. She wished she could go back in time and make up for all the mistakes she had made since she was so full of regret.
As if she would adore him unconditionally and obsess over him like no other. Assuming she was given another chance.
Before she gave up the ghost, she felt his hot tears on her face and heard him groan in anguish as police sirens sounded. I wish she could have had another chance.
With a gulp for breath, Isabella opened her eyes. She was where? Did life truly continue after death?
What was familiar about her surroundings, then? Yes, she was in her chamber.
Oddly, the anguish from before had vanished from her.
Was it a nightmare or just a terrible dream? How, therefore, could it be so true? She was perplexed. A knock at the door at that moment was followed by the entry of a maid.
"Madam, the divorce papers were signed by Mr. Lucas Johnson."
Isabella was lost in thought. She thought of how pleased she had been when she heard those words, but now that she realised she was soulless, it drove her insane.
She couldn't have asked for more when the cosmos heard her plea and offered her another chance, but the timing wasn't right. The divorce papers are already signed by Lucas. The man who genuinely loved her was the one she believed to be her enemy.
She instinctively clutched her stomach. It was flat, as though the nine months of intense pregnant she had previously carried hadn't ended.
She had already divorced Lucas Johnson, but she still felt hopeful. Even after the divorce, he continued to adore and watch over her. He'd told her he loved her at the very end of her previous life.
A teardrop trickled down her face as she pledged in her heart, "I promise I will love you properly and hold you tight."
She ran her fingers through her hair and noticed the engagement ring that Ethan Anderson had given her.
A month ago, they would have tied the knot if Lucas hadn't originally declined to sign the divorce documents. After accepting Ethan's proposal, Isabella was so enraged that she had pulled him into the sewer and tossed in the ring he had purchased for her.
She felt ashamed and could not place the blame on him, even though she wished he had not signed the divorce papers because of the embarrassment she gave him in his office and among his employees.
She grasped the engagement band with two fingers on either side, prepared to tear it off but knowing it would only lead to problems.
Olivia stated that the list of persons she worked with was never-ending. She was concerned her loved ones might be harmed if she called off the engagement right away.vii
"Madam, how are you doing?"
The confused state of Isabella confused Hannah, her personal maid. An adoring smile greeted Isabella each morning. She had never looked more like a lost child before, not even caring that her hair was a mess.
"Yes, I'm just fine, thank you."
Isabella astonished her with her civility. Since Hannah didn't like Ethan and wasn't kind to him, she was always unpleasant to her. She also knew that Emily, the head maid, was close to Ethan, so she proceeded with caution because Emily had constantly suggested that Isabella terminate Hannah because she wasn't a member of her team.
Lucas suggested that Hannah be recruited, and Isabella's father did just that.
Even though Isabella had begged her father for a second maid, Hannah persisted despite her impoliteness.
She gave the divorce document to Isabella.
She told the maid, "You can go," but she was hesitant, so she enquired, "Is there anything else?"
"Mr. Ethan Anderson is near the bottom. Your dad is in his roon, but he wants to see you. Knowing that Isabella would always pick Ethan over her father, Hannah concealed her expression, "He also wants to see you, Your gad has a fever."
