Ashton’s eyes were still closed as he pulled Everly close. He opened his eyes to see outside. Everything was gray in that quiet time between day and night. This was his favorite time of day. The quiet allowed him to center himself and prepare for the day. It was something his Aunt Junie taught him when he was a boy, and he used it often.
“Mmmm,” Everly groaned as she stretched in his arms. She opened her eyes and smiled at him. “Why didn’t you wake me?”
“Because I have been awake less than a minute and I was enjoying holding you and watching you sleep,” Ashton said before he kissed her tenderly. He broke the kiss and grinned, “Plus, our night was longer than it should have been thanks to our wayward scaly child.”
