Elena's POV
“Let's get a divorce, Elena!” Caleb slammed a document on the table before me, the title boldly written: “DIVORCE AGREEMENT.”
My eyes widened with shock, and I was dumbstruck at the sudden statement and the sight before me. I felt my lips part for a split second, and my smile instantly turned into nothing but a confused gaze now fixed on my husband, Caleb.
“What did you just say?” I managed to mutter with the energy I could summon at that moment.
“Look, this thing isn't working, okay? I can't keep living this way! It's suffocating,” he blurted out harshly, his voice becoming louder with every second that passed.
“My ex, Isabella, returned, and she has my child… I've been thinking, and as a man, I can't leave her and my child without a father!” he added abruptly, not thinking twice.
“Your ex and a child?” I scoffed in disbelief, my left brow raised in uncertainty.
“Does this have to do with me not having kids since we got married?” My heart tore apart at the attitude he was portraying.
“It has to do with that and more... I fell out of love with you, and I think we need to part ways… so this is definitely the best decision!” he declared, his expression devoid of humor at this moment.
For a second, I would have thought he was joking, but he wasn't. He meant every word he said to me.
“We have been married for five damn years, Caleb!” I groaned bitterly.
“Doesn't it make sense to you? I had to give up working as a woman and so much just to be with you, and now you suddenly want a divorce because that same ex who left you dry and low came running to you with a child?” I snapped, my irritation evident as I bit hard on my lower lip.
“I know this is hurtful, but that is my decision! It can't be changed! I can't continue with a shitty mess like you!” he exclaimed nonchalantly.
I felt a sizzling anger deep inside of me, and I wanted to grip him by his neck and snuff the life out of him.
“You couldn't do this at home? Was this why you brought me here, then?” I snorted. Here I was, thinking he wanted to make me feel good after so many years of ignoring me.
I felt my heart pounding heavily.
“No… I mean, yes… To get a divorce and to have you meet her,” he let out, making me pause for a second.
“Who?” I asked curiously.
He pointed behind me with a robust smile, and I turned back. Just then, our gazes met.
Isabella Vega was standing right behind me with a sinister look on her face. I couldn't believe it. I was getting divorced by my husband before his ex-girlfriend.
The two of them exchanged glances, and I could see the chemistry between them. I just knew that I could never separate them.
At the realization of this, I turned back to Caleb. “Fine! I will sign the divorce papers!” I asserted as I flipped through the papers.
Although I felt hurt, I held back the tears that threatened to trickle down my pained cheeks. I could not let them see my pain... Never!
“I am so sorry about this, Elena,” Isabella cooed in my ear beside me the second she got closer.
I turned to her with a contemptuous look and shook my head. She tried to play innocent and cool, but I could see through her.
“Keep that apology to yourself. You wanted him; you have him!” I signed across the lines, angrily gathered the papers, and threw them at Caleb.
He was shocked at my sudden reaction, but I didn't care. I also pulled the ring from my finger and threw it at him too.
“Thank you for liberating me from this trash! You'll suffer worse, Isabella!”
I walked out of their stunned faces and took a deep breath once I was outside. I quickly flagged down a taxi, and once I got in, I called my best friend, Sharon.
“Hey, babe, meet me at the diner’s bar,” I let out abruptly.
“Diner’s bar? What's the occasion?” Sharon asked with a smile, and I divulged, “I just got a divorce!” Tears trickled down my flushed cheeks, and I dabbed them gently.
“f**k! That fool left you? I’m meeting up with you in a short while.” She ended the call, and I felt an air of uncertainty embrace me.
It was heartbreaking, but I needed to get it off my head. I didn't want to dwell on it for long. I bit hard on my lip to stop the tears.
“Get a hold of yourself, Elena!” My fingers dug into my skin as I tried to control my emotions. I was going to keep being strong.
By the time I got to the bar, I had snapped out of the gloominess, and I was in the mood to get drunk.
From afar, I saw Sharon walking up to me, all smiles and giggly.
“Elena… the new single b***h in town!” She hugged me and chuckled softly. She was only trying to make me happy.
“Come on, let’s get drunk and wasted tonight!” she giggled, and we walked into the bar, holding hands and laughing mockingly over the marriage situation with Caleb.
While we were drinking, I was beginning to feel drowsy, and my head felt whooped.
I was holding my glass of wine, dancing wildly on the floor when I mistakenly emptied the drink on a gentleman standing beside me.
“Oh, f**k!” I exclaimed in shock, my jaw dropping. “I’m so sorry…” I apologized swiftly.
But when he turned to me, I felt my heart melt like plastic in flames.
“Are you that drunk?” he asked, looking at me with a blank expression. He was neither angry nor happy, and something about him was intriguing.
I could not control the rush of excitement within me. Maybe it was a result of the alcohol, but I didn't care. I felt the yearning to have him.
“Are you married?” I inquired unexpectedly, and he shook his head in confusion.
“Are you?” he asked me.
“Nah! I am happily divorced and ready to mingle!” I laughed even more and threw myself at him for a dance.
“You seem to be in your element,” the gentleman whispered in my ear, and I brushed my face against his bearded jaw.
Something about him kept me wanting to be flirtatious with him.
“So, would you like to be a contract wife for just a year?” he probed, his eyes glistening with desire.
“A contract wife? Am I gonna get paid?” I questioned with a witty smile, and he nodded.
He seemed serious, and I thought it was a joke.
“Am I gonna get laid too?” I leaned into his ear as I whispered. I suddenly felt the urge to be naughty with him.
He seemed taken aback and shook his head with laughter.
“You really are a piece of work, aren't you?”
“I am serious. I cannot let that fine body of yours go away from me tonight.” I bit my lower lip as I spoke seductively.
“You are serious, aren't you?”
“Of course!” I replied with a shrieking voice and an excitement I could not describe. “And guess what? If you say yes, I'd do anything.”
“Are you sure about your decision?” he asked again, tucking my hair behind my ear.
“Once you do this, I can't let go of you! You will be mine for as long as I say so,” he said with a deep tone that sent shivers running down my spine.
I brought my lips closer to his and brushed them against his. “I know what it means. Just say yes… and f**k me.”
I could see desire in his eyes, and I was already intensely in need of his touch. I wasn't sure where Sharon was, but she was okay.
“Let’s sign the marriage contract then, shall we?” It was a joke, and I was certain of it, but in the meantime, I loved the fun of it.
I took the pen from him and cursed my signature on every line, flirting with him as I did.
The fragrance of his perfume kept me stuck to him, and I found myself wanting him even more.
He lifted me in his arms, his firm arms pressing my butt, and I felt needy of him. I snuggled up to his neck and ran my tongue over it.
“You are quite slutty, and I like that,” his deep voice hoarse, and I kicked my legs in the air in pure excitement.
At that moment, I could barely remember that I was once married. All I wanted was to be consumed by this gorgeous gentleman.
He took me to his VIP room, and we got entangled in an intense lovemaking scene, falling so deeply into each other's arms.
“Remember, you are mine now, and there's no going back!”
