Kiara called Lucas as soon as they got home
Ring ring ring... Lucas's phone buzzed as he was taking his shower; he rushed out with his wet body to get to the phone, as he had been expecting Kiara's call. When he saw it was Kiara calling, his face lit up; a smile spread through his face, but he frowned with a deep voice. Immediately, he picked the call; he had missed her and had been expecting his call, but he was still disappointed that Kiara stood him up without showing up at the hotel as they agreed
"Hello," came a deep voice from Lucas
Kiara pressed her lips together; by her voice, she noticed he was really mad at her. Who wouldn't be, anyway, she told herself
"I'm sorry for not meeting up today as we agreed; something came up", Kiara apologized, trying to sound calm but formal
"Really?" came Lucas' harsh voice, "something came up, and you couldn't even text me or even call to let me know; you just stood me out at the hotel like I didn't have anything to do with my life"
Kiara didn't know what else to say aside from being sorry, so she kept mute
"You don't have anything else to say, huh?" Lucas thundered, expecting her to say something more deep than just being sorry. "I waited three hours for you, three good hours. You made me look like a fool, and all you could say is sorry. Thanks for that" With that, he hung up
Kiara took a deep breath. 'Why is he even making it sound like I did something big? We're not like we are in a romantic relationship, but I still kept him waiting. Those thoughts kept running through Kiara's mind; she kept arguing whether to call him back or not
... knock knock, Kiara knocked on Fred's door to ask for his opinion, as she seemed not to be able to make up her mind
"Can I come in?" she asked
"Yeah," Fred answered
With the gloomy look on her face fred noticed and asked her what's the problem
"Just because I didn't make it up to the business date or whatever he called it, he is so mad at me. You need to see how cold he replied to me," Kiara pouted
Fred laughed at her sister's naiveness. You call it just?" he laughed "Kiara, you ditch a man, supposedly your future boss, that's a big deal; it's not nice to skip an appointment you both agreed on", Fred stated, "and to even add to that fact that it was disrespectful"
"Ooh, please, Fred, stop making it look like I'm his lover or something, so I'm not entitled to meet up with him", Kiara still argued
"That's the problem here, Kiara; this is supposed to be a business meeting, not a lovers' hangout, so that's the more reason you shouldn't have missed the appointment", Lucas advised
"Oh, I'm so silly", Kiara blamed herself
"I understand that the situation you met Lucas isn't a pleasant one, but if he is going to be your boss, you have to let go of the past and accord him the respect he deserves"
"I know, I already said I'm sorry"
"anyways I'm sorry too; it's kinda my fault", Fred said
Kiara gave him a suspicious look, saying What did you do again
" I did remember the appointment you have with him, but I just didn't want you to go", Fred confessed, giving her that innocent look
"You are a devil", Kiara yelled at him, not in a rude way, just joking with him
"Yeah, I know I am, I'm sorry", Fred nonchalantly agreed, and they laughed it off
"But jokes aside, what am I supposed to do now? He just hung up on me", Kiara asked worriedly.
"With what I'm seeing, I don't think there is any chance with that company anymore", Fred grinned as if he had just achieved something, " but if you persist, you can call him and suggest meeting up with him; let's know if he will agree"
Kiara gave it a thought, "Yes," she nodded her head ", that's not a bad idea"
" As always, big brother saves the day", Fred praised himself
"But wait", Kiara paused as a thought suddenly clicked into her mind, " by suggesting to meet up, do you mean I have to pay for reservations and everything, including what we will eat or drink there?" Kiara asked wide-eyed
"Exactly", Fred replied with a grin," and you have to book a reservation with high taste or class to match the level of Mr Lucas, as you know he isn't just a random man anymore" Fred replied sarcastically, knowing fully well she couldn't afford any of that
"With which money? I don't have a dime to spend," Kiara complained
Fred just shrugged, "It is just advice; I never said you must do it"
"Thanks for nothing", Kiara sneered as she dashed to her room to call Lucas
She took a deep breath, then decided to call Lucas
"I'm sorry, Lucas", Kiara said. Immediately, Lucas picked up the call
"No problem, I have forgiven you" Lucas, who had been hoping in his heart that she would call back, was finally happy when she called. The enthusiasm in his voice was already showing that he had been desperately waiting for her call.
"To make it up to you, let's meet up at the same location tomorrow by 12:00 noon", Kiara proposed
Lucas was excited to hear that; he was going to invite her over for the business date again, but she had finally spoken his mind
"If that's okay with you", Kiara added when she didn't receive any response from Lucas
"Ooh, why not," Lucas replied, cutting short the celebration bubbling inside him. "I'm most honoured to be asked out by a pretty lady like you", Lucas teased her
"It's just a business meeting as you suggested earlier, is not like we are going out on a date", Kiara said, hoping to dispel the impression Lucas seemed to have.
" Don't mind me, I was just messing around ", Lucas replied
"Okay, that's good, as we are on the same page", Kiara said
"Yeah, we are. A business date it is," Lucas said with a chuckle.
" Then, until we meet up tomorrow, good night, Lucas ", Kiara said after a long, awkward silence
"Sure, good night, Miss Kiara", Lucas bid her happily
Kiara hung up. She kept wondering if it was a good idea to suggest meeting up at such a high-standard restaurant when she clearly knows she can't afford it
