Kiara shut the door behind her as she came back, pondering how her life seemed to be revolving around Lucas and how they kept bumping into each other; it didn't look like a coincidence to her anymore. As soon as her brother came back from work, she told him how he met with Lucas at the cafe shop and how their conversation went
"Just quit the job, we will find another one" Fred advised after hearing Kiara's story
"No Fred, you know how I struggled before I got this job, I can't quit now and besides he hasn't even employed me yet"
Fred shrugged then kept mute after all he is okay with whatever decision she is making for herself
Kiara was about to sleep when she heard her phone ring, drawing her attention, she wondered who was calling her by that time of the night because she hasn't taken any late-night calls since Vince broke up with her
"Hey, baby?" came a familiar voice across the phone
"Uhh," she gritted her teeth tilting her ear in disgust from the phone speaker, she so much despise that voice, she regretted picking the call "I have told you to stop calling me that"
"My bad, sorry" Lucas apologized
"It's okay, how are you doing" she pretended to be pleased with the call
After exchanging pleasantries, "How about we meet up tomorrow and talk, I believe we have a lot to talk about" Lucas suggested
"I have somewhere to go" Kiara declined immediately
"Ohh, that's bad, people are really applying for that position, but I will see what I can do" he blackmailed her hoping it would work
He actually did hit the jackpot, Kiara hated how he made her comply with his will using his CEO position
"Okay" Kiara helpless submit to him " but I have to visit my mum at the hospital, and I will try to meet up"
"So tomorrow then, by 4:00, is that good with you? at the restaurant of the Milestone Hotel"
"Sir, I will be there" she replied
"Thanks, have a good night's sleep, my angel" Lucas said
Kiara hung up on him not replying goodnight to him then collapsed into her bed, falling into deep sleep
It was Friday morning being the day she usually visits her mum at the hospital, she did some chores and then made breakfast
"Good morning kitty" her brother greeted as he came out of the room all dressed for work, he pegged her sister on the cheek, "How was your night " he asked her
"It was good expect one pervert ruined it for me" Kiara replied, referring to Lucas as a pervert
"What happened " Fred asked as he sat down at the dining table, eating his breakfast that Kiara prepared

" who "confused Fred asked and then it clicked to him "You mean him....?"
"Yeah," Kiara spoke softly
"What does he want again" he asked in disgust
"Nothing, he just wanted to up with me to discuss work"
"You know you can always decline this job right" Fred reminded her "I don't like you around that guy and besides, I'm working, have I ever complained about your bills" he asked
"No Fred, it's just not about that, things have been pretty bad here, the load is just getting too heavy on you, I can see it"
"shhh" Fred placed his finger on her lips cutting her short "I am not complaining, venturing into a business with that dirty man is something you would definitely regret, I'm your elder brother and your responsibility is mine so let me"
" what about mum's hospital bill too" she asked, everywhere was silent "You see, alot is out there for us, this isn't the right time to sit at home doing nothing " She paused and took a deep breath as if trying to convince her brother. " Fred, I understand you really want to help but you have to understand that I'm no longer a kid and I can make the right decision for myself, you just need to trust me, after all, it is remote work"
Fred was moved by her sister compassion, she has always been independent since childhood trying to make things for herself. Ever since their mum got ill she is all that he has and he doesn't joke with his sister
"Okay.... but on one condition" he requested
" I'm listening" Kiara replied
" As you are working for him you can also apply for other work, once you get another job, you will withdraw from his company "
Kiara laughed, his brother has always been too protective of her, "That's if I get one with good pay, because I won't lie, Lucas's company pay is damn good" she chuckled
"Oohh" Fred groaned lightly shaking his head "Alright, I give up, your love for money is something else" he exclaimed
"Oh please, who doesn't love money" Kiara teased
"Anyway, thanks big bro" She gave him a heart-shaped love with her hand
"But seriously, if he misbehaves, let me know" Fred added
" My fighter, my super hero, chill your sister is way bigger than him" she teased with a laugh
"I trust you tho, my fierce kitty" he patted her head "just be careful" , he added
"Sure," Kiara replied
"Okay, bye " Fred pecked his sister as he left for work
"Don't forget to come to the hospital before visiting time is over" Kiara reminded him as he was leaving
Kiara cleared the dishes then made a homemade pie she would carry to the hospital. After dressing up she took a taxi to her mum's hospital, Kiara has the habit of reading to her mum and telling her stories of what has been going on in her life although she is unconscious but it makes her feel her mum's presence
Reaching the hospital, she greeted the health workers on duty and some new friends she made at the hospital, shared the pie with them then headed to her mum's ward, looking at her mum lying unconscious there made her heart feel heavy
"When will you finally be awake mum" she muttered to herself, she shrugged it off and took a deep breath
"no negative energy today" she tried to cheer up herself, "I have a lot to tell you mum, my life have been in a mess" she said feeling in a little bit emotional, she went ahead to gist her unconscious how Vince broke up with her, how she ended up sleeping with a guy she barely knows and how the guy is offering her a job, "mum I just wish you were here" she ended the story with tears in her eye
"Hey, kitty" she heard her brother call behind her
"Hey, sup" she greeted "Fred you are late today, it's almost past visiting time"
" I'm sorry, I was just caught up with things at work" he explained and kissed Kiara on the forehead
"How is mum doing" Fred asked
"You can ask her yourself" Kiara replied
Fred bent towards their unconscious mum, pulling his ear closer to her face as if expecting her to reply
"Ooh, she said she is doing great, just taking a long nap with sweet dreams," Fred joked
"Nice one" Kiara couldn't help laughing "I really do miss mum talking to me"
"Don't start with the sad energy" Fred shushed her
Just then the hospital alarm went on, signifying visiting time was over they said a brief prayer together and left
Kiara and Fred went to the grocery store to replace foodstuffs that they were out of, after picking everything it was time to pay, seeing the total amount "ohh, that's a lot," Fred exclaimed
"You see, that's enough reason why I should work"
"Ooh, please, spare me that" Fred dismissed her " speaking of her work, aren't you supposed to meet up with MR CEO today"
"Oh no!!" Kiara screamed, checking the time, it was past six already, " I totally forgot " She reached out for her phone and saw calls that she missed from different numbers
