Chapter 5

3813 Words
REINA'S P.O.V. Going through the clothes in my backpack, I notice that it's not hard to realize I'm an assassin, everything I own is black, leather, hooded, and heeled except for my pajamas. As soon as I stepped onto this territory everyone probably knew I'm not just a normal supernatural trying to fend off vampires. sighing I just pull out a pair of black super tight skinny jeans, black leather high heeled boots, a black strapless tight top that shows off part of my stomach and topping it off with a crop half sleeve leather jacket, yep I scream assassin. If I am the least bit fortunate some may think my clothing style is one of a biker chick. Most of my shirts are strapless because you never know when you might need to use your wings and I have had hundreds of shirts ripped to shreds from unfurling my wings. Padding to the overly large bathroom attached to the guest room Cameron has me in, I put all my toiletries where they should go. Last night I didn't bother unpacking anything, I just went straight to sleep not even bothering to wash off all the sweat covering my body, at least I wasn't bloody though, when they took me in the hospital they cleaned all the blood and dirt off me. Having everything in place I smile satisfied with everything, then grab a towel off one of the several shelves placing it close to the shower. Stripping out of the hospital gown I'm still wearing I turn on the multiple shower heads making the water just about as hot as it will go to wash the sticky sweat off me. As I shower a small giggle leaves me as I think of how much my mom would love this bathroom, my mom loves anything that reminds her of nature, unlike my modern style bathroom at my house this bathroom is very serene, there are large tinted windows that let sunlight illuminate the entire space, plants are tastefully placed everywhere, the tile floor resembles cobblestones, the shower walls are made up of cobblestones that have been smoothed down and everything is a light grey and calming green color. The bedroom, however, could use some serious redecorating, everything is pink and I'm not exactly a fan of that color more like an enemy. It feels as if I'm sleeping in some princess room which makes me wonder if this was once the bedroom of a little girl. Satisfied all the sweat is out of my hair and no longer on my body, I turn off the shower. Stepping out onto the bathmat, I grab the towel and dry myself off and wring my long black hair out before towel drying it, I wouldn't call myself vain but I don't blow dry my hair because of the damage it causes, eventually it gives you split ends and dries out your hair and I like my long straight silky black hair just the way it is. Wrapping the towel around me I exit the bathroom going to the bed where I had set out my clothes, as I'm about to drop my towel I sense a presence in the room, jerking my head in the direction of the door I spot an open mouthed Cameron making me clutch the front of the towel even tighter. After what seems like forever he closes his mouth, rubbing a hand on the back of his neck as a pink tint covers his cheeks. Cameron clears his throat. "Sorry, I didn't mean to... um... walk in on you like this... I just came to let you know that breakfast is ready if you're hungry." Not really knowing what to do I just nod once acknowledging him. Not waiting for him to leave I drop my towel and begin slipping on my panties. "Gods! Can't you wait til I'm out of the room to change?!" Cameron half shrieks as he quickly covers his making me roll my eyes at the childishness. "You're a shifter, you see naked women probably daily so it's not like it's something you haven't seen before." I shrug while continuing to dress. He groans. "Yes we shifters do see the other s*x naked daily when they shift, that doesn't mean we nonchalantly get naked in front of each other!" "Such a baby." I mumble as I finish putting on my clothes. "Alright, I'm completely dressed." Turning towards Cameron I contain a laugh as I see he still has his eyes covered, slowly he peeks through his fingers to make sure I'm dressed before he releases a relieved sigh, dropping his hands to his sides. "The way you dress reminds me of sexy assassin girls in movies, except they are usually carrying around a sniper rifle while you just have daggers strapped on the inside of your boots." My eyes widen in shock, frantically my head snaps to my boots trying to spot if the daggers are sticking out in anyway, seeing that they are still completely hidden my lips purse in confusion wondering just how he knew I had weapons there. "I didn't actually know you had weapons hidden in your shoes, but now I know you do, probably have some on the inside of your jacket as well." My heart races as he continues talking, he easily manipulated me into basically admitting I carry weapons on me. "Don't worry about me knowing, I don't blame you, if I was someplace where I didn't know a single person I would probably keep a few weapons on me as well." He winks at me then turns to leave the room leaving me utterly stunned. Okay he has to know who I really am or he wouldn't have mentioned the assassin thing so carefreely or tricked me into giving myself away, I am glad that I did not stare at my jacket when he mentioned something being hidden there though. Huffing at my own stupidity I stomp out of the room, clearly aggravated with myself. Walking into the kitchen I crinkle my nose at the breakfast, shifters are huge fans of meat because they were created from carnivorous animals but foxes have a different kind of diet since they are omnivores, so staring at so much meat is nauseating to me. Picking up an empty plate, I put a few sausages onto it, then rummage through the fridge and cabinets in search of some fruits and vegetables which thankfully there are some. Happy with my balanced plant and meat diet I head to the dining room where I can hear several voices talking, along with chirping that I'm very familiar with. I speed up my steps, excited to see Rex for the first time and know for sure that he's ok. Entering the dinning room most of the conversation stops as the few strangers at the table take in the sight of the stranger staying in their house. Rex chirps happily then flies onto my shoulder chirping away like he's telling me about his day yesterday making me giggle, using my free hand I scratch under his chin making him purr in delight. Taking the only empty seat which is between Cameron and the man that Rex clawed yesterday, I place my delicious looking breakfast down, Cameron stares down at the plate slightly frowning at the lack of meat. "Your breakfast resembles what I assume a human's would be." I shrug at the large werewolf's words then pop a blueberry in my mouth. "I don't have the normal shifter, it must be due to being a hybrid." He gives me doubtful look but doesn't say anything else. Cameron figured out as soon as he laid eyes on me that there's something off about me and I guess right now he's not going to push for answers, most likely waiting for me to slip up like I did earlier. Tiny growling catches my attention, Rex is engaged in a stare down with the man he attacked yesterday over what seems to be a piece of bacon and from how they are acting it must be the very last piece. Smirking I watch the little guy as he acts tough blowing out a small puff of smoke. "By the way what is that little green monster?" Some red headed girl across the table asks as her eyes stay glued to Rex. Her question got the attention of half the wolves in the room who are now focused on Rex. "Don't know, all anyone has been able to figure out is he is a hybrid, even though he appears similar to a dragon and likes to act like one he doesn't have any dragon in him but occasionally I just refer to him as one. Everyone assumes he's possibly a hybrid of some unknown or near extinct creature that is related to a dragon." Everyone gapes looking over Rex with a newfound interest. Annoyed with the growling and puffs of smoke I grab my fork and hit Rex on top of the head with it making a few gasp, Rex angrily chirps while he rubs a clawed paw on his head, to calm him I give him a piece of sausage from my plate. He hungrily eyes the piece of meat but is trying to act like he's too mad to take anything from me, by crossing his winged arms in front of his chest, which makes me think of birds in cartoons that do that. After a minute of his act I smirk then start to put the sausage near my mouth, before I can blink the fat monster snatched the food from my hand. "You can hit that temperamental creature with a fork distracting him from food and he won't attack you?" Cameron seems amazed at what just happened, anyone who has met the monster is always amazed at the things I do and somehow never get bitten.. My mismatched eyes look into Cameron's green ones. "Well we've been friends for a long time, he lives with me so he has to listen to my rules and I let him eat whatever he wants whenever he wants, which makes for a very expensive grocery bill. All my friends and family carry food on them when they come to visit so he warmed up to them and eventually started to like them but if they were to do what I did they would get a puff of smoke blown at them but not get scratched or anything like he would do to you all." Finally satisfied with the amount of food he has eaten, Rex decides to perch on my shoulder again. "Do you live in a pack?" The red haired girl asked, eyes shining with innocent curiosity. This is the first time I have ever been asked if I live in a pack, in a way I find it an offensive question considering most packs aren't too accepting of hybrids. "No, I live on my own, on neutral territory, while half my siblings and mother live with my father around more fallen angels than shifters, my mom does have what she considers a pack though... she owns literally hundreds of normal animals calling them her pack and she has a weird connection with the animals, her and my dad even have a house in the middle of nowhere they love to stay most of the time that has nothing but animals. I've grown up and lived a life mixed between shifters and fallen angels. Not really something I can explain." I ramble on not entirely sure what to say because I can't say I live on my own while everyone else lives at the Protector Organization headquarters most of the year and that's were I grew up. "How interesting!" She squeals. "Have you thought of living in a pack?" Mentally I roll my eyes. "Nope, packs have too many laws, I wouldn't be able to live as freely as I wanted to plus I'm a person who just comes and goes as they wish and I like solitude which I wouldn't be able to have if I was surrounded by hundreds of shifters daily. Also being half fallen my body is more complex than any other supernatural so if I was hurt I wouldn't be able to get the proper care unless the doctor had very thorough knowledge on angel anatomy." "Oh that's unfortunate, I wouldn't want to live anywhere other than a pack, I was a lone wolf for a short period of time and it was miserable to me. By the way I'm Sarah." Her gray eyes sparkle as she introduces herself. "I'm Reina." I say as I pick up a piece fruit with my fork then leaning back in my chair fighting off the urge to put my feet up on the table. "Everyone knows your name! Yesterday you made quite a stir around here and your voice was loud enough to shatter the windows of half the territory!" She smiles mischievously as she finishes and I drop my fork and fruit onto the floor. My eyes widen in shock as my mouth drops open"What?!" "Cameron, you didn't tell her?" Sarah sounds surprised like it's something that should've been immediately addressed to me. I snap my head to the wolf next to me, he clears his throat. "It's nothing to fret about, we had more than enough windows to have everything replaced within a few hours." Cameron tries to act like it's no big deal by shrugging. "Also we keep literally hundreds of spare doors and windows in storage because we tend to destroy them alot." "True, luckily they were stored far away from where Reina was or we'd be in big trouble." A brown headed man next to Sarah pipes in. Looking up from his plate, he gives me a light smile. "I'm Kevin, the beta and Sarah's mate." I give him the same smile. "Are you single?" I choke on my water at Sarah's perfectly innocent question, I start coughing so hard Rex uses a wing to pat my back. Once the coughing dies out I give Sarah my best 'are you crazy' look. "Of course I'm single! Why the hell would I want to be in a relationship at my age? I'm only twenty five and I have a job that keeps me pretty busy." Wanting to get back at her for the unexpected question I decide on something to tell her. "I may refuse romantic relationships but I don't refuse no strings attached ones." Now it's her turn to choke, she sure as hell wasn't expecting me to say that. Kevin pats her back while everyone else stares at me like I've grown a second head for blatantly admitting that in front of a bunch of strangers. Out of the corner of my eye I notice Cameron holding onto a fork so tightly it's bent in half. "No strings attached as in friends with ....." Sarah finally stopped coughing long enough get out a sentence, in reply I smirk nodding then Cameron makes everyone freeze as a growl rumbles deep in his chest. Growing up around powerful Beings I'm pretty much immune to the growl of an alpha so I ignore him and decide to continue talking with a frozen Sarah. I lean forward. "You have a problem with that?" "I-it's not t-that." She stutters looking back and forth from her alpha to me trying to decide if it's wise to keep talking or not as her expression portrays her confliction. "Most of us try to save ourselves for our mates." Leaning back in my chair I think over what she said, from what I know of werewolves and all shifters they each have a mate and even though they have crazy hormones, they try their best to wait for their mates, higher ranking pack members however usually don't wait since they are even more hormonal overflowing with testosterone. "True but don't forget I'm a hybrid, half of me is fallen and the fallen don't have mates and if I took after my mother and did in fact have a mate I wouldn't know because I don't have an animal in my head alerting me to the fact that the person is my mate. Also, with me being immortal means if I had a mate they would more than likely be immortal as well and shifters aren't exactly immortal, only a handful of shifters are immortal and I'm related to half of them." My words swirl around in Sarah's head as Kevin and Cameron are staring at each other seemingly mind linking about something, a little rude to be doing that in front of everyone if you ask me. "So is there a pool anywhere around here?" I change topic no longer wanting to speak of relationships and mates. "There's a pool here but there's a bigger one at the main house." The man next to me happily says, probably not liking the previous conversation either and wanting to break the tension that is slowly seeping into the air. My lips turn up into a widespread grin. "Well how about we go for a swim in the bigger pool?" Without waiting for a reply I jump up from my seat and take off running upstairs to change. Faintly I hear Cameron sigh saying something about how he has a feeling this won't go well. Ignoring it I fling my bedroom door open zooming straight to my back pack pulling out my bikini. Knowing I would have a long stay here and the fact that pack territories have lakes and rivers I packed a bikini because I knew at some point I'd be swimming and there's no way I'm borrowing one from someone else, no offense but I don't know where someone's vag has been so I'm not wearing something that has already touched one. Since I can't put the clothes on I had before due to the weapon hiding spots in them that everyone would see, I got a pair of black shorts that are so small they barely cover my ass and a black and white stripped tube top that is short enough to show off a little skin below my belly button like most of my shirts, I don't have any other shoes with me besides boots so I go barefoot. Skipping out of my room happy I get to do some swimming I make it to the bottom of the stairs in no time, everyone else is already changed waiting at the bottom of the stairs waiting on me. As soon as Cameron takes in my attire his eyes nearly pop out, I guess girls around here wear more modest looking clothing, my assumption seems right as I notice Sarah is wearing shorts with a over sized shirt that goes nearly to her knees. "Um do you think you could put on a little more clothing?" Cameron's voice sounds raspy. I raise a brow. "Why? When we get there we all will be wearing much less than this." My head tilts to the side gauging his reaction, he seems very conflicted about something but I don't know what. As I keep my eyes on his face I notice that his green eyes are much darker than they were before. "He's just a little concerned because the main house is practically a frat house filled with young unmated wolves who ogle any girl and basically party twenty four seven... Um it just doesn't seem like a good idea to wear too revealing clothing there including skimpy bikinis." Kevin says as he meets eyes with Cameron. "They party? Would they be partying this early?" I question, the sound of twenty four seven partying seems a little intriguing, just 'cause I'm here on mission doesn't mean I can't have as much fun as possible and blend in with everyone. "Yes, those idiots do nothing but party from the time they wake up til they go to sleep." Cameron rolls his eyes seemingly annoyed. Unable to help it I giddily jump up, it has been way too long since I have done any kind of partying and doing it now sounds like a great idea. "Hell Yeah! It's been awhile since I've partied!" I squeal in excitement making everyone look at me like I'm crazy, it's obvious they were expecting the opposite from me, glad I didn't meet their expectations. "Just 'cause I like to live in solitude doesn't mean I don't like to have fun." "Yep, this is definitely going to go wrong." Cameron mumbles to himself while pouting and crossing his arms over his chest. Going up to Sarah I link my arm in hers grinning like the cheshire cat at the thought of partying, the times I'm forced to take days off work I spend about a fourth of them at friend's parties. Yep I'm a party girl but not the kind that sleeps around, if I've had too many drinks and want to have a little more fun I call up Matt or another friend with benefits. Dad discovered the relationship between Matt and I at a party, Ryan thought it was a good idea to throw a rager when we were nineteen, since dad and mom have several different houses we figured they wouldn't be at the one we were at which is what we nicknamed the party mansion because it's incredibly rare they ever come there. Little did Ryan and I know halfway through the party dad came home, he actually wasn't as angry as someone would have expected, he actually said we needed to let loose every once in awhile, but that particular night Matt and I were too drunk to completely close my bedroom door which happened to be near my parents room, so dad just went up the stairs acting as if there wasn't a crazy party going on downstairs to go to his room, well he passed mine and caught a glimpse of two people in there so he decided to shove the door open to see what was going on and he definitely expect to see his daughter half naked straddling a half naked vampire on the bed. To say he was pissed is an understatement, but since I was already considered an adult plus a part of the organization, he managed to calm himself down a little. I think that night was the moment when he realized there's a possibility of me not having a mate of any kind. Soon the entire group of werewolves is heading out the door to the main house for a little fun, Sarah doesn't know what to think about me happily skipping a long while her Alpha is staring holes into the back of our heads.
