Chapter 4

REINA'S P.O.V. My eyes snap open as the sound of a heart monitor reaches my ears, luckily the room is dark so my eyes don't have to adjust too much. Remembering what happened a wide range of emotions flood through me, rage being the most dominate one, those fuckers sedated me! Suddenly the heart monitor starts beating like crazy showing the raise of my thundering heart beat from the anger boiling inside me, I knew these people weren't actually as nice as they were acting, but to stab me in the back with a syringe is just cowardly. The sound of footsteps approaches me but I ignore whoever it is as I sit up and start unhooking myself from the different medical equipment and yanking a intravenous needle out of my arm causing blood to flow down my arm. A pair of strong arms grab me trying to hold me in place, a growl of aggravation leaves me as I throw a punch hitting the person in the face effectively knocking them hard onto the floor. A string of curses comes out of the person's mouth making me immediately stop my actions as I know that very familiar voice that I love so much. "Ryan?" My voice portrays my shock and confusion at my brother being in the room. "Damn that was one hell of a punch." He grumbles as he picks himself up off the floor wiping dust off his butt with one hand while the other is holding his nose that is now bleeding and crooked. "Sorry 'bout that, I didn't know it was you." I meekly say as my face flushes from embarrassment. "Well if you would've looked at me then you would've known who I was." As he says this the nasty sound of cartilage snapping back in place fills the room. Peering at him, I watch as he wipes the blood off his face like it's an everyday occurrence, which it was when we were younger, I have a hot temper and when he would argue with me I would always punch him breaking his nose. Honestly I have no idea how he still has a perfectly straight nose as many times as it's been broke over the years. "Where am I? Those Blood Moon bastards drugged me." I grit out the last part letting my anger show as my fists clench at my sides. "At the Blood Moon pack, you let out a few screams so loud and pain filled that it alerted all fallen angels nearby, including Dad and our brothers, we were all going crazy as the scream echoed through our heads, Dad sent me here to check on you. Is it true vampires broke your wing?" At the last sentence he crosses his arms over his chest raising a brow at me knowing exactly what vampires broke it and that it was my idea. My eyes go to the floor. "Yes..." I trail off feeling like a small child caught doing something wrong. Ryan lets out a sigh, uncrossing his arms he comes and takes a seat on the bed next to me. "They tried to fix your wing as best they could but when I got here I had to redo their sloppy work, it's obvious they have no knowledge about the anatomy of an angel wing. They fixed it like you would any normal bird wing, your wing would be crippled if I didn't fix it." Looking over my shoulder I take in the pitiful sight of my bandaged wing, a pang of sadness washes over me at how it appears like a beaten mess, it is clear that they had no idea what to do for my feathers to be this unkempt. I'm pulled out of my thoughts as a knock sounds on the door, Ryan nor I bother to respond to the person, but they open the door anyway carrying a tray with a few medical instruments, including several tongue depressors that are wrapped in a cloth. Immediately my eyes lock with the beautiful green orbs belonging to Cameron, the person I'm supposed to kill as quickly and quietly as possible to be undetected. Swiftly Ryan stands taking the tray away from him, coming to stand beside me instead of sitting on the bed again. Curiously I watch as a strange vial of glowing silver liquid is pulled out of his pocket and realization hits me making all color drain from my face, the bastard is going to force my wings in. "My wing is feeling so much better. There is no need for anything else." I start fidgeting my fingers, Ryan just smirks as he takes a syringe off the tray filling it completely with every drop of the liquid. "Nah I'm pretty sure you need this." His tone is laced with mockery, seemingly enjoying that my idea has come to bite me in the ass. "Aside from what I did earlier this is the rest of the care to help an injured wing, if I were you I would pay close attention just incase you come across a fallen again with any type of wing injury, not just broken." Ryan addresses Cameron who has come to stand close to the bed, deeply interested in watching what my brother is doing. "All right sis you know what to do." Shakily I move myself more to the center of the bed leaning forward making sure Ryan has full access to my wings. Over the years we've seen this kind of injury countless times and learned to treat it easily, dad made sure we knew everything about our complex angel anatomy and the unique ways to treat different injuries so if something happened causing on of us to be hurt we wouldn't have to wait for medical help. Ryan grabs a needle filled with what must be pain killers then injects it into my already numb wing, because once he gets started whatever they gave me for pain however long ago won't work, from the looks of the glowing liquid it's probably painkillers specially for angels, just like the dreaded silver liquid. My wing twitches a little as he pulls the needle out, a sigh escapes me thankful that the pain will be lessened by atleast a fraction when he starts forcing my wing. Next he grabs the tongue depressors wrapped in cloth sticking it in my mouth, Cameron's eyes widen as if they're going to pop out of his head knowing if I'm going to have to bite down then what's going to happen isn't good. "If possible try to not let your canines come out or you'll easily snap all of those and probably break your teeth." I just nod at Ryan's words. "Also please don't scream like earlier, we don't need all the fallen in a frenzy again, dad calmed them down quickly but it wasn't exactly easy. Alright get ready." My eyes involuntarily close after I watch him pick up the syringe of silver liquid, I silently send a prayer to the gods to help take the pain away. With one hand, Ryan bends my wing at the joint where it's broken making me hold in a scream as I bite down hard on the tongue depressors whimpering. Using his other hand, he injects the liquid right where my wing protrudes from my back. Instantly I bite down even harder as my claws extend, tearing into the mattress and muffled screams come from my throat as tears stream down my face from the unbearable pain. Slowly I feel every bone in my wing shifting and snapping as is very slowly retracts into my back, Ryan making sure to keep the broken joint from moving too much, once the wing is fully retracted dark spots dance across my vision as sweat pours from my entire body dripping down onto the bed. Spitting out the depressors, I immediately lean over the side of the bed where Ryan placed a trash can and start throwing up from the excruciating pain that has already ended. "What was that liquid?" Cameron questions looking deathly pale from watching Ryan and I, my ears pick up the hint of concern in his deep voice. My brother sighs. "It forces a injured wing to retract, without it she would had to have her wings out for a couple months til it healed enough to retract. It's also much safer to have the wing retracted so there's no chance of bumping it, causing more damage and unnecessary pain. It will heal perfectly fine and the bandages will stay in place as well til she releases the wings and takes them off herself. Wings aren't a quick healing injury and for some reason Reina's healing speed is slower than most supernaturals so there's a probability that it could take up to around six months to heal instead of the average three months" I snort at how professional Ryan sounds as if he was an actual doctor, both men snap their heads at me raising a single brow, but Cameron's is raised in question while Ryan's is more like a challenge, daring me to say something. My lips turn into a smirk. "Did you switch professions to a doctor without me knowing?" "Hey! This is knowledge taught to all fallen, and you might as well say I switched positions considering I've been helping mom take care of her hoard of beats, with that many foxes she has there's atleast one wounded creature to attend to a day." I snicker at the thought of my warrior brother having to take care of literally hundreds of animals plus mom's rare Pegasus that won't let anyone but her near him. My eyes widen as I remember Rex. "Where's Rex?!" I ask in panic hoping he isn't hurt. A sigh fills the room. "Don't worry, that little monster decided to attack everyone til he sniffed out food on one of my men then he decided to eat til he fell asleep. I must say that I have never once encountered anything that eats that much food." I can only agree with Ryan's statement. "Always keep food on you for him and he'll eventually become friendly." Ryan rolls his eyes making me giggle and Cameron snort. "Well sis, as much as I would love to stay here I have some business to take care of." My brother leans down placing a loving kiss on my forehead. "I'm leaving you with a bag full of wing care items such as salves that will seep through your skin to your wing, shots, and other things. Be careful and don't do something stupid like unfurl your wings, also make sure to not fall hard on your back, which means try not to sleep on your back as well." At the last part he winks at me making my face turn beet red at the suggestive meaning, a growl come from deep in Cameron's chest, both our heads snap to him, Ryan appears beyond shocked while I on the other hand am just confused. Cameron tries to fake cough to cover up the growl but it's too late. "Um... so I gotta go. I trust the alpha will take care of you til your healed up a little more." With that my brother reluctantly turns away, forcing himself to leave the room. I know he's more than worried about my safety here but there is nothing he can do since it's my solo mission and he does have his own obligations to attend to, he can't exactly skip out on his organization protector duties. Not wanting to waste one more second in this hellhole of a hospital I hope off the bed stretching out my sore limbs. "Where's my backpack?" I question noticing the important bag isn't in the room. "It's in a guest room in the house the high ranking members share." Oh well guess I can't change, turning towards the door I start speed walking to it desperate to be out of this gloomy room. Just as I place my hand on the door handle Cameron grabs my wrist, involuntarily I growl not liking being stopped. "Where are you going?" "There's no reason for me to be in this hospital so I'm leaving and hopefully never entering this place again." I shrug while shaking off Cameron's grip, he lets go then opens the door for me, holding it open like a gentleman til I go out first. DAMON'S P.O.V. I've heard a female fallen's cries before and it was nothing compared to the head splitting echo coming from my daughter. I have heard that if the female is a relative then the dreadful sound can you reach you no matter how far apart you are and they are louder, not once did I ever imagine that it was actually true. I was sitting in my office when the cries hit me, bringing me to my knees screaming in pain as I clutched at my head almost wishing the noise would stop, I could also hear a few of my sons that who were at headquarters scream as well. As soon as the cries died out I panicked, ignoring all the organization members that busted into the office to see what was going on. Immediately I picked up my cellphone calling Ryan to track down my precious daughter. When the cries hit me a second time I had to call her, praying she is in a position where she would be able to answer the phone. When a unfamiliar male voice answered the phone my heart sank, as much as I wanted to scream and cry I tried my best to control myself and listen to what he claimed happened. I had to explain the cries of a female fallen so he would know that if he planned on hurting or killing her then half the fallen angels in the country would hunt him down, exterminating him as well as his entire pack. Hearing vampires broke her wings I was scared that she might die due to how fatal of an injury that is but I also know it was probably her foolish idea, more than likely she recruited that scum Matt and his friends to fake fight her then break her wing. It was a fantastic plan to show the perfect balance of strength and weakness, but she was stupid to risk her life by having them break a wing instead of a normal bone. Putting a small amount of trust in the man's words I alerted all the fallen not to track Reina that she was okay except for Ryan who I quickly let know where exactly she was and what happened so he would be able to provide proper medical care, for some reason the supernaturals don't bother learning about the care and anatomy of other species which is stupid because unexpected situations can happen at any time, at the organization we learn about every being and creature so we know exactly what to do. Luckily for Reina and I Ryan wasn't too far from Blood Moon territory and is able to return back to me quickly for a full report, I sincerely wish he could've stayed with her but that would be a bad idea and much easier for Reina to get found out. Pacing back and forth in my office I await for Ryan hoping for good news, if something happens to Reina I will be broken past repair and I can't even imagine how I would break the news to her mother, especially since Lotus has no idea that her daughter is an assassin much less the world's most notorious and feared assassin in history. Lotus would kill me if she knew the truth about our daughter since I was the one who okayed her being an assassin. I'm pulled from my thoughts as the creaking of the office door catches my attention, Ryan is standing in the doorway taking in my disheveled appearance as well as the destroyed office covered in broken glass and papers strewn across the floor. Closing the door behind himself he grabs one of least destroyed chairs off the floor placing it in front of me then he plops down on it taking one deep breath. His nonchalant behavior relieves me a little, but my anxiety is still through the roof. "She's ok, she is in the hospital of the Blood Moon pack. They did give her what they thought was 'proper' treatment but obviously it wasn't and I had to redo all their work or they would've left her with a crippled wing. She said it was indeed vampires that broke it so we now know what her plan was of infiltrating that pack. Everyone seemed kind to her as well as me, and the alpha stayed by her side the entire time except for a few minutes when I had him fetch some medical supplies I needed to retract her wing." All the weight lifts off my heart as uneasiness leaves my body. Thank gods she's okay, they really didn't hurt her. "I don't know if I should hug her when I next see her or scold her, I'm so relieved she's ok but she's f*****g stupid doing something like that. She should be able to pull off this mission and safely return to us, then I'll ban her from missions for a few years." At the last sentence Ryan shifts nervously in his seat, a conflicted look flashes across his features so fast I wasn't quite sure that I didn't imagine it. "If you know something you better tell me now." I demand, my nerves won't be able to take it if my son is keeping something from me. "I don't think it's possible for her to complete the mission or return to us, more than likely she'll have to live her life at that pack." He refuses to look at me as he says this. "What do you mean?" I growl, it's impossible for her to live there and practically impossible for her to fail a mission no matter how hard or crazy it is. She was born to be an assassin, that was obvious from a very young age which is one of the reasons I reluctantly allowed for her to become one. "The alpha who wouldn't leave her side I believe is the same Cameron that she is supposed to take out, which seems like it would be easy for her to do considering they were alone in the room even though she was knocked out, but she could get to him like it was nothing. The problem is..." He trails off fidgeting with his thumbs while staring down at the ground. "I think they are mates, I made a suggestive joke to which he growled to, he also refused to leave her no matter what until I explained the importance of getting the supplies I needed." My brows furrow in confusion. "Mates? What do you mean?" He licks his lips before he continues. "Well that's the odd part, mom imprinted on you, you both weren't bound from the start like some other supernaturals. They have the normal shifter bond... obviously since Reina doesn't have an animal in her head like werewolves having wolfs she doesn't know they are mates yet, but she has to feel the pull to him, it's very clear Cameron knows they are mates but doesn't seem like he plans on telling her anytime soon." My mouth drops. What the hell do I do in this kind of situation? Well, I sure as hell don't have to worry about my daughter's safety but she's mated to the Being at the top of our hit list for being a danger to other supernaturals. Groaning, I sit on the edge of my desk placing my head in my hands trying to figure out how to handle this, aside from this now having to involve my daughter's happiness it will also affect how she is as an assassin and at the moment she is crucial to the supernatural world, not somebody with skills that can be easily get replaced if their work gets sloppy or can no longer complete their tasks. "Get as many men as we can spare to discreetly find out anything at all about this pack and Cameron, I don't even care if it's rumors I want everything. Get ahold of that disgusting vampire Matt who does research for Reina and have him dig up everything possible, somehow he's better at finding things then our men. Pray there's the slimmest chance your sister's mate isn't what we've believed and can take him off the hit list." Ryan nods pulling out his phone sending out mass texts to all free members, while I pull my phone out and send a coded text to Reina temporarily calling off the hit and just gather whatever information she can about the pack and Cameron. Ryan glances up at me from his phone. "If mom hears that Reina has a mate who just so happens to be on the kill list I can't imagine what she'll do." "Aside from fallen angels not having any sort of mating bond and fox spirits like your mother only imprint, how is it possible for an immortal hybrid like her to imprint on a Being with a life span of around two hundred years?" I question out loud curious as to how any of this is possible. "I have no idea, she should be like either you or mom with that stuff and maybe Cameron isn't just a regular werewolf." What Ryan says reminds me of a legend. "Ryan how much do you know about legends?" "Not much, haven't had a lot of time to study them." He shrugs. Getting up from the desk I head straight to my bookshelf grabbing one of the few books that's still on the shelf about legendary supernaturals that have existed. Placing it on the desk I flip through the pages searching for the legendary Being I once read about years ago, curious Ryan stands from the half broken chair coming to lean over the book wanting to know what it is that I'm thinking. Finally I stop at the section I was searching for. "Cameron is a threat to the supernatural world, however he shouldn't be on the kill list." I murmur as I scan the words on the page before me, Ryan furrows his brows in confusion. "Thousands of years ago an immortal Being was born, the Being should have had a normal life span but the gods made him immortal so he could be the ultimate protector of the supernatural world, god originally sent me down to be the ultimate protector but it seems like the gods decided it was needed to bring back the legendary one. It is said that he also had an immortal mate, she was mentioned to be a slayer of all wrong doers, a unique hybrid born from one who was thought to not to exist, just like your mother was thought to not exist. We need to find more on this legend." I snap the book closed meeting Ryan's stern face who nods once agreeing with me. "Aside from taking care of the hundreds of beasts, mom has done nothing but study so she might know more about this, we also have quite a few scholars, not to mention the enormous library filled with any kind of book you can imagine. Oh yeah, Reina has the rarest of books at her house." "Let's see what we can find out and pray that Cameron is the legendary Being." With that Ryan and I take the book with us as we exit the office to head straight to Lotus, my mate, to see what she knows.
