"Are you f*****g serious?! This has to be the stupidest plan I've ever heard, it's a way to get killed before you even start your job!" Matt shouts as his vampire friends, most of which I know, all stare at me wide eyed.
"Don't yell you f*****g moron, what if someone hears you?!" I hiss, making him shut his mouth and scan the surrounding area for any signs of life. "It's not a way to get killed, it's a way to show my worth." I grumble.
"Your worth?" Keith, a red haired vampire, says tilting his head to the side curiously.
I slam my palm on my face at the lack of knowledge these vampires have about what is supposed to be their mortal enemies. "There are two very quick ways to get a pack to take you in, one is if you are very weak and need the protection a pack gives you and two is to show them you will make a worthy asset to them by showing strength, but not too much strength or the alpha will see you as a threat to their position." Keith and the others nod in understanding.
"The way you want us to show your strong but not too strong is a bit drastic though." Matt said sternly. To most it would seem drastic, but not to those who are top-class spies and assassins.
My eyes glare into the vampire. "Listen, if you don't do as I say and make it all look real, I will be killed along with all of you, none of us will have a chance to flee if there's any trace of acting. While we are doing this, I want you to think of what moment in your life that you have experienced the most anger, or think of me as someone you simply want to kill. Got it?" Like bobble heads they all nod except Matt, who opens his mouth to speak, but I quickly cut him off as I sling my backpack over one shoulder. "There's no time to waste let's go!" With that, I take off running at full speed, the group of vampires following suit.
After sprinting for ten miles all of us are sweaty and a little worn down looking just like we needed to appear. As soon as the border for the Blood Moon pack is in sight my ankle is grabbed from behind, making me fall hard onto my stomach, my backpack flies off my shoulder crossing into the territory. Using my free leg, I kick the vampire in the face making him stumble back, then twist around onto my back just in time as two come at me at the same time. Internally smirking, I kick both of them in the stomach knocking the air out of them, giving me just enough time to get up. Acting panicked, I race across the border just as another vampire lunges at me, red eyed and fangs extended, damn he must've really took my advice about the anger and enemy thing cause he looks like he'll rip my head off if given the chance. I quickly bend back to dodge the lethal-looking vampire. As I fight off the group, I finally sense a presence in the forest around us. They are staying hidden and watching, waiting to see how this plays out and when to decide to intervene. Momentarily distracted by the many hidden wolves, a fist comes flying at me hitting me hard in the jaw, knocking me over, another vampire descends on me about to sink his fangs into me but I unfurl my huge set of black wings which send the vampire into a tree safely across the border. As planned, they all come at me at once, I rain as many blows and kicks as possible on the group but soon they overpower me, forcing me to my knees on the ground. Peering up at the large group, I notice they are all just as bloodied and bruised as I probably am, four vampires use their full strength to hold me in place as I struggle with full force to knock them away. Even with the help of my wings it's not enough to free me from them. All of a sudden, a sickening snap echoes all around us and I release a pain-filled scream that could no doubt be heard for miles. Keith broke one of my wings. The pain is almost too much for me to handle as my powerful wing is now rendered useless, they all snicker and release me, I fall onto my hands panting hard as dark spots cloud my vision. In an unexpected fit of rage, I'm somehow able to stand on wobbly legs, just as I'm about to launch myself at one of the vampires, who I may actually end up killing, the sound of howls and thundering paws makes the vampires flee in urgency. I drop down back onto my knees breathing in harsh breaths to keep from going unconscious.
In seconds I'm surrounded by more wolves than needed, they are in a perfectly shaped circle around me as if I was posing some sort of threat to them. Right now I'm beyond helpless and if the dumb asses knew anything about angels they would know there's no way in hell I would be able to fight with a broken wing. To show how intense the pain is I let my claws extend, digging them deep into the ground and let out the most agonizing whimper possible. The sound of footsteps approaches and I can see through my peripheral the wolves part for what has to be a high ranking member, who comes to stand in front of me.
"This is a very unique hybrid, a shifter and fallen angel. Not too many shifter hybrids around since all shifters have shifter mates." The man's tone sounds curious.
"Sir this is her's..." Someone says as I can see feet moving towards the man hovering over me.
"What the hell? It's moving?" The man says quizzically, knowing it's my backpack they've picked up with a probably frantic Rex I mentally groan. I was not expecting to introduce the green monster just yet.
"Do ... Don't ..... o .... op .... open .... it." I barely manage to pant out, before falling onto my side no longer having the strength to hold myself up.
"Open it." The man orders, I warned him not to open it. Using only my eyes I look up just in time to see a very pissed off chirping Rex flying in the face of the man holding my backpack, the monster places a long deep scratch down his face but not deep enough to scar. Rex starts blowing his non-existent fire at everyone before flying to me, landing softly in front of my face. Weakly I give him what closely resembles a smile, his eyes are filled with sorrow as he notices my broken wing, letting out a mournful chirp he rubs his head against mine trying to comfort me. The small creature's eyes suddenly widen as if he just thought of something. In less than a second he flies off the ground as fast as his little wings will go towards the man still holding my backpack. The man glares at the small beast extending his claws ready to hurt Rex but to his surprise Rex dives into my backpack holding a syringe in one claw, honestly I'm shocked he didn't go in the backpack to get food unless he already ate it all. Knowing the syringe is strong pain killers I release a sigh glad that he knows what all the medical supplies are and a little alarmed that these wolves now know I carry medical supplies with me. Feeling a sharp prick right where my wing is broken an ear piercing scream fills the air making everyone cover their sensitive ears. I should teach Rex not to inject the pain killer straight into the affected area but near it.
My scream dies down as my wing starts turning numb and my ragged breathing turns normal. "Thank you Rex." Reaching out a hand I pat him on the head, the mini dragon hybrid beams with pride at my thanks, more than happy he was able to help me. Soon I'm able to stand on shaky legs and take in the strangers around me. Damn, is it really necessary for there to be about twenty wolves surrounding me considering I couldn't even stand up one minute ago? "Um where am I?" I innocently asked as I look past the wolves checking out the scenery, trying to act completely confused.
"This is Blood Moon territory." The high ranking man replies. Turning to him, I take in his appearance starting from his feet to his thankfully clothed body then his gorgeous face. He has the most mesmerizing green eyes I've ever saw, strong jawline, perfect straight nose and a set of lips that's neither pouty or thin but just the right thickness, his hair is a beautiful shiny honey blonde that reaches past his ears. My eyes lock with his as a strange pull tugs at my chest. Not knowing what it is, I instinctively clutch right where my heart is, making the man smile.
All the wolves surrounding me go wide eyed and slowly back away, putting a non-threatening distance between us. Now I'm seriously confused, I have no idea what is going on, one second they are surrounding me, watching me pretty much collapse from pain, now I'm up and standing and they are getting away from me? This is making no sense, the only possible logical explanation would be if the man told the wolves to get back but he didn't say it out loud and I didn't see him mind link...
"As you know trespassing can be punishable by death but you were in the middle of a fight when you trespassed and if that happens we let it slide because it wasn't intentional and the few times someone does intentionally fight like that on the territory it is usually a cry for help which we also let slide." I nod only half registering his words as I peek at the wolves around me. "You don't have a animal do you?" His question startles me, turning my eyes back to his I shake my head no. "That's what I thought, hybrid shifters don't usually have an animal in their head. Are you able to shift?" That question is like a loaded gun being pointed to my head, I have to lie but if they find out I can shift and lied about it that could possibly mean my death.
"My ears and tail tend stay out, I just keep them hidden from humans, I can only partially shift, just extending my claws and canines." I cannot let them know I can shift into a fox, most likely they think I am half werewolf. The man nods in understanding, most hybrids inherit their supernatural abilities from one side, but I have a full set of wings like a normal fallen angel and my mom's ears and tail plus her shifting, so I inherited both except my mother's powers.
"What kind of shifter are you? Most may believe you to be a wolf but I'm smart enough to know you're not, I've saw many wolf hybrids and not one have had ears or a tail like yours." This guy is very observant, I'll have to watch myself around him.
"Does it matter?" Probably not the smartest thing to say, but I don't want the existence of fox shifters to get out and my mom and sisters get hunted down as they get discovered as fox spirits with incredible powers. To my surprise the man chuckles not seeming the least bit offended by my rude answer.
A smile lights up his face making my breath hitch at how beautiful he is. "It doesn't matter here, all of us view every kind of shifter as the same, even though most don't think that way." My eyes widen in shock that he just outright admitted that to a complete stranger, well atleast this probably means it's true that different kinds of shifters are a part of this pack. "What's your name?" The man's deep voice sends a pleasant shiver down my spine.
"Reina." I don't bother giving out my last name because as soon as I do everyone immediately connects me to my dad.
"Alright Reina, let's have that wing looked at, incase the vampires are lurking nearby waiting for you to leave the area you will stay here til that wing is completely healed." The man smiles brighter, I smile back at him and nod my head happily. There's no way any pack is this friendly, they are either putting up a front or are trying to figure out if I have a special agenda for being here, if it's true they harbor criminals and someone here being on the top of the kill list for the organization they would have to be very cautious with anyone who even comes five miles near their territory. "By the way, I'm Cameron Mikels, sorry about this." As soon as the words leave his mouth I feel a needle jab into my back instantly knocking me unconscious.
CAMERON'S P.O.V
"Is it really necessary to knock her out?" Kevin, my beta asked.
Letting out a sigh I reply. "Yes it is, it's obvious she has secrets she's not willing to share and I respect that but there's something off about the fight." I stare at the porcelain skinned hybrid riding on the back of my top warrior with her full set of wings out, it would be hard to carry her normally with her wings out but with a broken wing it's impossible so she has to lay on the back of the wolf that I threatened if he was to drop her. "During the fight when the vampire broke her wing for a split second his face twisted into pain as she screamed, that means that either the vampire attacking her was very sympathetic or it was a planned fight and they are friends." Kevin furrows his brows soaking up my words as a broken wing can be a lethal injury to any form of angel.
"What should we do with her?"
I sigh once again, this is one hell of a dilemma I'm in and there's no right way to handle it. "I can't lock her up and get information from her so just act normal and welcoming while keeping strict surveillance on her at all times."
"I hope she's not up to something, right now the Protectors Organization has their eye on you and will possibly send someone out to kill you, I hope to the gods she's not a member of the organization, if she is things will end in a disaster."
"Kevin I want you to go pull up information on all supernaturals named Reina, if that's not her actual name find hybrid information. We need to find out who she is and fast."
"I'll get right on it, I'll also send some men to hunt down those vampires and find out the truth of the fight and what exactly their relationship is, if it was a real fight I'll just kill the vampires, if not I'll figure out what to do with them later." I nod at my beta's suggestion, those vampires would be a quick source of information. Kevin breaks away heading in the direction of his house to get started on research. I just had to find my mate when I'm being hunted, and for all I know she is here to hunt me, best f*****g day ever.
Making it to the hospital I mind link the doctor to hurry and meet me at the entrance, there's no way we can get her through the door on the back of a wolf with her wings fully out. As we reach the hospital the doctor is at the door with a couple nurses and a gurney. Seeing the massive wing span of the hybrid the doctor's eyes almost bug out of his head, fallen angels aren't something you see everyday since most can't procreate and seeing a fallen angel hybrid is mind blowing, if fallen angels have children it's usually with a human or another fallen. The doctor and nurses rush to Reina's side after their shock wears off inspecting her damaged wing and murmuring about how they are going to be able to fold her wings enough to fit through the door without causing any further damage.
"What happened to her and where did you find such a hybrid?" The doctor asks eying her as if she was a medical mystery.
"She trespassed, a vampire broke her wing. Honestly I'm surprised you didn't hear her screams from here, it was the loudest noise I've ever heard."
"I'd say so, according to all studies a broken angel wing is the second most painful thing in the world, the first is an angel wing being ripped off. A broken wing is so painful there's only a ten percent chance of survival, only the strongest can survive such a thing. Imagine having liquid silver poured all over your entire body." I gulp at the thought, once I had just a drop touch my hand and a hole burned completely through the flesh and bone. "Now magnify that by a thousand and that's how painful it is to break a wing." My mouth goes dry, there's no way I can imagine anything more painful than liquid silver, whatever pain she just went through is literally beyond any pain I could ever feel.
Very carefully the nurses maneuver Reina off my third in command's back trying their hardest not to move the broken wing. Pulling the gurney closer, they manage to gently place her on her stomach, one nurse keeping a steady grip on the injured wing to not jostle it while the other nurse folds the other wing onto Reina's back. "Since it's broken at the joint, continue your steady hold while we try to fold the wing where it protrudes from her back." The doctor instructs the nurse as he and the other nurse very carefully and slowly try their hardest to push at the wing wiling it to fold just enough to make her be able to fit through the hospital doors. Once the wing has folded only a foot they all sigh from the hard work and smile as they can now get her through the door. As they begin pushing the gurney into the hospital I notice a small wet spot on the floor, before I have time to warn the nurse she steps on spot making her slide, losing her grip on the broken wing. It feels like my heart shatters as in almost slow motion I rush to grab the wing but not fast enough as it falls bending and twisting at awkward angels. A scream so loud escapes Reina making the windows shatter from the high pitch and all of us drop to our knees covering our ears from the sound, the pain is so intense Reina regains consciousness continuing to scream as she reaches for her broken wing. The doctor quickly pulls a syringe from his lab coat and softly plunges it into my mate's shoulder immediately knocking her back out.
"I once heard of the cries a female fallen can let out but gods I didn't think I would ever hear it, the sound is enough to almost make us go deaf." The doctor shouts and due to the ringing in my ears I'm barely able to hear him, the shout sounds like a barely audible whisper to me. Looking at my unconscious mate I notice a light glowing in her back pocket, curious as to what it is I walk over and pull what seems to be her phone out of her pocket. The caller ID reads Dad. Ah s**t! Knowing I need to answer the call and inform the man about his daughter I rush outside. Hopefully I'll be able to hear him so I can talk to him. Taking a deep breath I answer the phone putting it on speaker with the volume turned all the way up and hold it up to my ear.
"Reina?!" The voice sounds frantic.
"I'm sorry sir but Reina isn't able to talk right now, she had an accident." My voice is calm and steady, the exact opposite of how I feel at the moment.
"Who the f**k is this?" The man growls full of power, showing he is a leader of some sort of supernatural community. "I heard her cries ring through my mind, right now every fallen angel in a three hundred mile radius of wherever she is going crazy hearing the cries themselves."
His words stun me. "Heard her cries?"
Grumbling comes from the other end something about how supernaturals need to learn more about other species. "Female fallen angels are incredibly rare and loved by god, when they are in excruciating pain that they can't handle their cries of pain reach every fallen angel for hundreds of miles away, it's basically a plea for help. Right now all fallen angels in the area are more than likely tracking her, if they reach you before I do they will rip you and anyone else near her to shreds, I will only rip you to shreds. What the f**k did you do to her?!"
My mouth goes dry, if fallen angels really do track her here the entire territory will be destroyed. No matter how big or strong a pack is if fallen angels are enraged or frantic no one stands a chance against their wrath. I pray to the gods her dad will know how to call off the fallen. "I found her about an hour ago trespassing onto my territory fighting a group of vampires." A sigh and grumbling comes from the other end. "One of them broke one of her wings."
"WHAT?! HER WING IS BROKE?!" The man frantically shouts. "Oh god please let her live." He says to himself.
"As soon as it happened I and my warriors rushed towards them and the vampires ran off, now she is being treated, the 'cries' you heard a minute ago were from her waking up from the sedative she was given."
"Who are you and where are you?"
Guess I'll have to give this guy some sort of information. "I'm the alpha of the Blood Moon pack and we're on pack territory."
"I have the ability to call off the fallen but I will send someone to check on her to make sure you're not lying. If there's even one thing that seems off I will call on every fallen in the country to wipe out your pack in minutes!" With that the phone goes silent signaling that the very enraged father who must be fallen hung up, leaving me shocked and a little scared. I'll have to eventually meet him in person one day since he is my mate's father who seems to be very protective of her. I mind link all the wolves on patrol duty to let a single being enter who is more than likely fallen if they ask about Reina. Groaning at what transpired in an hour I rub my hands up and down my face then enter the hospital again to check on my mate.
