COMMUNICATION WITH THE OUTSIDE WORLD IS CUT OFF; WOULD YOU BE MY MOUTHPIECE?

1131 Words
Lisa bounced on the bed, her face devoid of expression. Her stowaway cash had been taken and her phone had also been confiscated. She dragged her bottom lip in between her teeth, worrying it. She’d never thought Amina would be a step ahead of her. Granted, the woman could choose to be terribly evil when the cause arise, however to keep her against her permission in the house was on another level. Is that not k********g? Lisa’s rubbed sleep away from her eyes and dragged herself to be seated. The clock on the wall stated that it was seven in the evening which gave a full reason why her stomach kept clenching and unclenching. Dragging her feet to the adjoining bathroom, she put a bit of toothpaste on her brush and began brushing, while simultaneously thinking about ways to leave the Evergreen house. After all, her grandmother had to live and eat, of course. Choosing to wash her face with only water, she scrunched up her lips at the cold water, using it without any trace of complaint. A knock sounded on the door and one of the maids in house walked into her room. “Dinner is served. I was tasked to tell you to report for dinner.” Lisa nodded not missing the contemptuous look the maid shot her way. It had always been like that. Even the maids and workers in the Evergreen household never treated her right. Changing her clothes to a simple A-shape gown with green designs at the bottom, she quickly paired it with a cream colored fluffy slippers, Raven had gotten for both of them as a package and quickly exited her room. Throwing a cautious look to the two guards who had situated themselves outside her room, Lisa noted that they must have been informed about her having to go to dinner, because unlike other times, she tried to go out, not only was she allowed to leave now, they didn’t even pay her attention like she didn’t exist. Honestly, Lisa was terrified of what she would meet going down for dinner, but the thought of what they might take her rebuttal as and act on, terrified her more. Dragging herself towards the Dining, the atmosphere there made her pause. They were telling stories, inserting a few jokes in. Her Father’s eyes were filled with care anytime his eyes drew towards Rachel. Lisa paused, her heart no longer hurting at the sight. The previous day was the last straw which broke the camel’s back showing her, carrying the Evergreen name was the highest she could carry from this house and now, she was been forced to change it through marriage. Walking into the dining, Lisa sat herself and began dishing green onto her plate. Another day with vegetables. She sighed and began eating. “I was informed of your silly act to run away today.” Best to keep to the original thought. “I had class that I was supposed to attend with Raven, sir.” “Your classes will be on no importance to the Jenkins family. Seeing that as no company will employ a Jenkins family out of fear, it’d best if you learned you’ll be needing a different set of skills to survive in the family.” Cam replied stabbing into his mashed potatoes with a fork. “What do you mean?” Lisa asked her voice soft. “That your fiance is likely to move to the countryside and keep his head under to make ends meet. Let’s hope he doesn’t kill you to make things easier for him.” Rachel spoke, her smile stretching across her lips. “Rachel!” Cam called out, cautioning her. “Rachel was trying to say that your schooling is of no importance anymore, Lisa.” Amina quickly intervened, uncomfortable with Cam’s correction of her daughter. Excuse you all?! “Dad?” Lisa’s meek voice sounded “Amina is right.” “Dear, I think we made a mistake in educating Lisa the way we did. We raised her up into a proper lady and gave her everything she needed to become a suitable person. If we had known that would have been useless, we would have educated her in the way she would be able to help her husband.” Can you calm down, Amina? I’m not married! Don’t call him my husband! Can waved her away, “The grandson of the Jenkins has requested to see you. I told him you will be available tomorrow, so make yourself prepared.” Lisa nodded. “The bodyguards will follow you tomorrow as well, so don’t think of anything funny.” Cam added and pushed a slip of paper towards her. Lisa looked at the paper which stated the time and place to meet this Jenkins grandson and nodded, avoiding Rachel’s smirk from the corner of her eyes. Cam cleared his throat satisfied and turned to Amina, their talk completely ended and Lisa relegated to the background. Like every other time. ……… The next morning, Lisa set out an hour before the stipulated time. It wasn’t hard to leave the house, now with a valid reason and since Amina did not get to see the paper, it was only her and Cam – the Jenkins grandson also – that were aware of the time; at least that she knew. Running a hand down her white colored, off-shoulder cashmere sweater, she felt giddy and nervous at the same time. She was going to see her boyfriend – Frank- and while she felt giddy at seeing Frank again, she trusted his wisdom to deal with a matter as hers. Frank was from a family with normal earnings, nothing as much as what Rachel or Amina had but he cared for her so much that they’ve built their life together for the next five years. Lisa was not willing to let all that go to waste. Frank would be devastated. Giggling at the stupid bodyguards who waited for her down the stairs believing she was to meet the Jenkins family grandson here, she let herself into Frank’s shared apartment with her key and then paused. There were clothes everywhere. Frank was not a dirty guy, but his housemate, Neo? Definitely. She paused, when she saw a piece of Frank’s clothing among the strewn clothes. He must have had a bad day. Turning her eyes to look at the creamy doughnuts – Frank’s favorite – she began to have second thoughts about going there. Until she heard it. That chuckle. There was no mistaking that chuckle anywhere. Her legs propelled her to Frank’s bedroom to which she threw the door open. Lisa screamed! Frank was cheatin g on her with someone she’d known almost all her life.
