Untitled Episode
Dear God, do you know speaking in nice grammar doesn’t make people nice?
Lisa threw her head back giggling as her eyes met the sun’s glares.
“What the heck are you grinning about?” Raven her friend pulled her from the sidewalk into the coffee shop across the street.
“Rave—Raven.” Lisa giggled as she called her friend in a singsong manner, her green eyes admiring Raven’s waist length, full black hair.
“You know you’ve got really nice hair, Rave? I’m jealous.” Lisa pouted, her pink lips coming together to form a terribly shaped heart.
“Yeah, you say it every time. Now tell me why you were giggling like that.”
Lisa threw Raven a playful look.
“What? I wanna know. I need to know all the gist. Why are you staring at me ? Oh ….” She trailed off.
“Someone’s definitely not sitting on our seat!”
Lisa chuckled as she threw her arms around Raven dragging her to the opposite end of the coffee shop.
“You shouldn’t drag… arrgh”
“ Raven” Lisa hit her with one of her stares causing Raven to simmer down.
“Maybe I should tell Dad to just buy this place.” Raven muttered.
Lisa shook her head causing her brown tresses framing her face to move lightly with the movement.
“I’ll go order our coffees. In case you need to calm down, your favorite barista is around.” She winked.
“I don’t like him anymore.” Raven replied, her attention captured by her phone.
Lisa just chuckled and walked up to the front of the shop to order. She was not bothered by Raven’s character as that girl was more fickle than anything when it came to men or passions. Luckily for Raven, she was a daddy’s girl whose Father would do absolutely about anything for her.
She threw a cautious look to the two strangers occupying she and Raven’s favorite seat in the shop and blinked making her way to their now occupied seat at the other end of the shop with the cups in her hands.
“What’s up Rave? You’re frowning.” Lisa commented as she placed the cups on their table.
“Nah. It’s nothing…., ah! My favorite! I so love you.” Raven squealed, her eyes on the cup in front of her.
“Me?”
“Oh, your drink. Why were you frowning?”
“I was frowning?” Raven baby blue eyes was filled with confusion as she gently dabbed at the side of her lips with tissues.
“Rave…”
“Oh yeah!” Raven’s eyes lit up as she moved her chair closer to Lisa’s forming a gossip posture.
“You know the Jenkins family?”
“Who doesn’t ?” Lisa rolled her eyes.
The Jenkins family owned several businesses in the country being the group that hosted major ownership of the country’s businesses and they were also well respected overseas. From technology to fashion to construction of apartments and hotels, there was close to no niche that the Jenkins family didn’t have dealings in. Perhaps the Entertainment Industry though, however wishing that was a bit far-fetched as there were several members of the Jenkins family who were well known Actresses and Actors, popular music personalities even.
As much as the Jenkins family were well envied for their Fame, Power, Grace and quite importantly Money, it was obvious that the members of the family didn’t get along as they had a number of their quarrels gone public.
Lisa hated a family as such, but she kept telling herself that it was expected for a family as large and deeply – rooted as the Jenkins family.
She could not say the same for her own family though. The Evergreen household just had two children, yet Lisa had not felt like an outsider even more than anywhere than ‘her home’.
Thankfully she had her boyfriend – Frank- and her best friend – Raven- who gave her a sense of support in their ways.
“Well! That’s the gist! The Jenkins filed for bankruptcy!” Raven cried out, her eyes the size of saucers as she skimmed through an article on her phone.
“What?” Lisa choked on her coffee.
“The Jenkins family can go broke?”
“Oh no Li, this is more than just going broke. It’s worse. They filed for bankruptcy.”
“Okay. Does this mean that the Jenkins are going to have to disappear?”
“Nah.” Raven grinned at Lisa, her eyes taking on a scheming glint.
“It’s the business world that has been affected Li. The ones in other industries like the Entertainment and Medical fields have their personal money right? But the ones in the business world are dead, Li.”
“So, the part of the business world controlled by the Jenkins gets to suffer a bit.” Lisa shrugs, her eyes eyeing the empty cup in front of her.
“Nah. The business side of Jenkins has always supported their people in other industries. So, it’s time to collect favors back.”
“From their family?”
“Possibly.” Raven shrugs, her eyes darting to their favorite seat in the coffee shop and Lisa has to tap the table to get her attention back.
“Rave… We do not own this place, so you will not be arguing with two strangers over seats that do not carry our names.” Lisa warns.
“Whatever. Anyways, back to Jenkins!” Raven rubs her palms in glee.
“The next line of action is to sell properties and take the slush fund hidden by paper companies or else where.”
“The Jenkins are a large family, their properties would be a lot.” Now, Lisa had leaned across the table, both girls engrossed in their gossip.
“ More money, Heavier Bankruptcy. And yes, if Jenkins family falls in the business world, they will be taking several companies down with them.”
“I’d better call Dad to make sure we’re okay, you know we have an ongoing project with the Jenkins.”
Lisa looked at Raven with pity concealed in her eyes. Raven had been over the moon when she learned of her Dad snagging the spot of project partner with the Jenkins. It was the government project and the Jenkins would probably have not picked Raven’s Dad company at a first look, however since they were paired together, it could open greater opportunities for them.
However, now it seemed inconceivable as she watched her friend struggle to keep her composure under check.
“I have to get to Dad, he is not picking my calls.”
“Rave--. You can’t do much.” Lisa said.
“Lisa, I didn’t study Business Administration because I wanted to follow you around. Granted, you gave me a reason to, but I found purpose in it and now.. I hope nothing’s changed for us but I can sit while my Dad and brother fights this on their own.” Raven said her eyes filled with determination.
“Yeah, I’m sorry.” Lisa nodded apologetically at Raven as she stood, her waist -length hair bouncing as she walked out of the shop.
To Lisa, the Jenkins family would be alright once they sold took out their slush fund and Raven wouldn’t ever have to worry. Right?
