The shock hit me first.
I gasped as icy water drenched me from head to toe, the freezing sensation jolting me out of unconsciousness. My body shuddered violently as the cold seeped into my skin, making my teeth chatter. My breath hitched as I struggled to register where I was, my senses overwhelmed by the sudden onslaught.
The air smelled damp and stale, and the hard concrete beneath me was just as unforgiving as the night before. My clothes clung to my body, heavy with water, making me feel even more trapped than I already was. My head pounded, my muscles ached, and every fiber of my body screamed in exhaustion most especially my face and ribs.
