A shifter of a distinguished family. Asterids flips the page and stared at Lilith, the first reincarnated shifter. “Hey, Mom. Go to bed.” Maruha was gently pushing her daughter Asterids to lay down on bed so she can start tucking her in. “But, Mom! Lilith is strong and interesting, and I'm excited to know more about her. I can't sleep feeling like this.” The girl is pouting now. Her mother started to chuckle and kiss her forehead. “Fine.” Maruha is still chuckling. “Let’s see here.” She sit besides Asterids, while her daughter hugs her, getting comfortable. “The Lilith phenomena was recorded in the book of histories. Back then when the gods created the first human. The monarch or the king and queens of the magical creatures, was just newly born. They were the offspring of the gods that was taking their break, seven days after creating the world. Lilith was just a regular human together with Adam. One day, they were fighting who dominates the bed room- err I mean the relationship, but then Adam kill- I mean, they had an accident and Lilith died.” Maruha begun clearing her throat when her daughter noticed the awkwardness in her voice. “At that time only Lilith knew she was pregnant and wanted to save her babe. The young queens of shifters and fairies both pitied Lilith and so combining their power, they revived her as a new shifter that can turn into a snake, Lilith’s favorite animal. She was reincarnated into the body of her dead child inside her womb.” “Eh, but what happened to the child’s soul mom?” “Some scholars claimed that the fetus did not have a soul yet. A lot of us doubt that though. She felt sorry for her mother that she was not able to stay as her little pure bundle of joy. She was already damaged. Stripped of innocence. Nineteen years old and pregnant with no husband to hold her hand. It was the result of a one night stand. Maybe that's the reason why her family is broken now. Her parents got divorced years ago. Tia Madrigal was the actual reason for her parent's divorce. “Ah! Ma—” Asterids stopped herself from calling her mom when a searing pain kicked in. Her real mother is not here. She will not beg and ask for help from this fake one. Tia is the fated mate of her father Edward Madrigal. They were lover in the previous life and so when her dad met the reincarnated old lover, his heart remembered the love and is ready to give up everything including Asterid’s mother Maruha and the trust of his daughter. “Stop screaming! Tia was with her friends together with their maids and body guards, hosting a party, while ignoring the calls of Asterids until she went home that night seeing the screaming step daughter on the floor. Edward was so furious except that Tia’s charm and crocodiles tears was more convincing. She expressed how she regretted what happened with her beloved daughter and will do what she can to take care of her from now on. “What’s going on? Tell me,” Edward said. He knows that the tests are being rushed but gods, he doesn't have patience anymore. The nurse came back with a bitter pill to swallow. What a freaking long day. Tia was just silent and looked bored. “S-sir please calm down. This is not easy for us as well. We are doing our best to help. I have a bad news—” “Out with it woman!” he growled. His inner lion reflected in his eyes and golden furs that is coming out of his skin. “We discovered that your daughter does not match your blood type. Tia gloats because she hates her daughter. While Edward is in shock because he love Asterids so much. Enough to make him despair and so he had to leave and hide. To lick his wound. They placed the babe in her arms, and suddenly Asterids heart is full again. What a beautiful eyes his son have. A crystal ocean blue just like hers. A unique set of eyes among the shifter. He'll be great someday, she just knew it. She shall name him Andy. For he is brave to be born in this cruel life. “Today is your check out Ma'am.” “B-but I just gave birth a few hours ago. I’m still weak. Please nurse.” Instead the nurse gave her a litany of reason why they need to kick her out. Asterids does not have money nor insurance coverage to stay in the hospital. And by the time she was able to absorb what’s happening, she was already out cold, facing uncertain destiny with her newborn baby in a dark, stormy night. *** *** *** Full of pain from the betrayal, heartache, loneliness. Asterids had to endure the night carrying her baby. She needed a place to stay but does not know where can she find one. Her mother left her after the divorce and since then, it was just her, Edward and Tia. She remembered an orphanage that she and her birth mother visited once. She would like to go there now. Though it'll be hard since the rain kept pouring harshly on the ground. Asterids' whole body is throbbing, she does not have any money to ride a taxi or a bus. She would need to hitch hike. She was able to find one. A good samaritan of an old lady just coming home from the church. Except it begun screaming at her when she found out that Asterids is bleeding heavily and dirtying her car Seats. The young mother was instantly kicked out in a long highway. She looked back and forth and find no lights around the place. Each side of the road are thick forest covering any vicinity of nearby houses or buildings. She was isolated once again with nowhere else to go. She had to wait for another passing vehicle. Asterids tried to fix the swaddle of her baby and to her horror noticed that she haven't heard her baby cried once. She tried to feel the pulse of her son and noticed that it's very weak. She had to go back to the hospital. She begun to walk fast and hard trying literally to run for their life. She started shouting for help, for someone to hear her plea, for someone to save her son. Instead her body gave in and she fell on a mud trying to shield her son from the impact. She is living a dog's life and fear is the only thing that her numb body can feel. Tears pours down from the sky. The darkness is settling and taking over her vision, for the fire of her life is slowly getting extinguished. Please save my son. Her eyelids are getting heavy. It feels too good to close it, but she is afraid to do so, because she might not wake up again. She muster all her strength and tried to find a tree that can protect them from the rain. Sitting below an acacia tree, she whispered her love for Andy, her son. Kissed his forehead just like how Maruha did to her, when they were still happy. Asterids started to tell Andy her most favorite stories of the past, denying how cold and stiff his body is now. She begun sobbing heavily as she kept one-sidedly talking to her son, as if trying to keep him awake. Finally death has won it's price. It claimed Asterids life. Colors begun to flash her eyes. She must be seeing the afterlife. And for some reason, she saw a beautiful woman. How clearly the woman is very familiar to her, Astrids couldn’t explain. She has many faces, Lived many lives. She was powerful, compassionate, loving. Strong. She was everything Asterids is not. She is a queen and she was calling Asterids back. The young mother was ready to hold the queen’s hand in return. She was going home at last! Except the tiny hands of her son reached the queen’s instead of her. Suddenly the queen vanished, never to be found anymore. Andy faced his mother as the colors and the light starts to envelope him. He begun to respond to Asterids through his smiles. As if uttering his first word Mama. Asterids is once again filled with joy. She is full again from the love of her son. This was their first conversation as mother and son. Edward checked his phone to find that the doctor from St. Lukes Hospital has called him twice. He looked for Tia, or Asterids but he was alone. His heart skipped a bit. Yes. I Never had a family to begin with. He needed to drink again. He checked the mirror, fixed his face, called for the maid to clean the room's mess. He will need to get more workload. Breakfast will have to wait. He begun checking his email. He noticed some articles that was sent to him by the doctor from the St. Lukes Hospital. Edward read the title out loud. “What Is Chimerism? We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We were mainly a hospital for humans and does not have much expertise in shifter biology. We are sad to inform you that a wrong information was provided to you a few nights ago by one of our nurse. Ms. Asterids Madrigal is your biological daughter and she had two sets of DNA which affected our lab result. Your daughter is a chimera.” Edward threw his laptop and begun calling for the guards.
