The giant's lifeless body began to undergo a strange transformation. Black mist rose from its form, coiling and twisting as it entered Ye Sha's werewolf body.
Ye Sha observed himself warily, unsure of what was happening. The mist was unsettling, but as the energy flowed into him, a surge of power exploded within his body. His claws expanded, muscles bulged, and his entire form seemed to undergo an evolutionary shift, becoming more formidable and terrifying than before.
Memories flashed through his mind—when he killed the little demon, he had absorbed its power as well. It seemed that, upon killing an aberration, Ye Sha could somehow absorb its strength.
"Once I get back, I need to check the aberration network," he thought, his mind racing.
After dispatching the giant, Ye Sha relaxed for a moment. He had planned to take Liu Yuning somewhere safe and check her for injuries. But as soon as he took a step, something felt off. His senses, heightened to a supernatural degree, picked up the scent of unfamiliar humans. They were close—very close.
He tensed, his sharp eyes narrowing as he made his way toward Liu Yuning’s hiding spot without making a sound.
Hidden behind a pile of debris on the rooftop, Li Chengfeng held his breath, praying that the werewolf wouldn’t notice him. He knew he was no match for this terrifying creature. His main combat strength lay in his weapon—the Qilian General sword—but without it, he was just an ordinary human. If the werewolf caught him, it would be over in an instant.
“I need to get out of here, warn everyone to fall back, and call for reinforcements from the Bureau,” Li Chengfeng thought, formulating his escape plan. He was brave, but he wasn’t foolish enough to die without a fight.
Just as he took a step, a monstrous shadow appeared before him, moving without a sound. The werewolf was upon him in the blink of an eye.
"Human, don't move," Ye Sha's voice rumbled, low and menacing.
Li Chengfeng froze, his heart pounding in his chest. He had been on the verge of drawing his sword, but now he hesitated. The werewolf could easily kill him with a single swipe or bite.
"Are you a slayer?" Ye Sha asked, his voice filled with curiosity.
Li Chengfeng was caught off guard. How should he respond? Was this really the time to reveal his identity? But he steeled himself and answered, trying to sound resolute.
"Yes, if you want to kill me, do it. I won’t surrender," he said, standing tall despite the fear gripping his heart.
Ye Sha’s ears twitched, a flicker of doubt crossing his mind. Is this guy really that foolish? The slayer was dressed in black, wearing a standard mask. It was obvious who he was—why even ask?
"Get everyone downstairs to retreat. The aberration here is already dead, and it no longer poses a threat," Ye Sha said, his voice firm.
Li Chengfeng’s face twitched in disbelief. What the hell is this creature talking about? It’s the werewolf itself that’s the biggest threat right now! He swallowed nervously but kept his voice steady.
"Don’t think you can fool me. Even if the entire Bureau is wiped out today, we won't let you go on a killing spree!"
Ye Sha chuckled darkly. "You're wrong. Humans are weak and unimportant to me. I have no interest in hunting you. My only goal is to hunt aberrations."
He flashed a devilish grin, and his fangs gleamed in the dim light. To Li Chengfeng, it was as though a demon had just appeared before him.
Li Chengfeng’s skin crawled, his face pale. He opened his mouth to say something, but the words caught in his throat. He couldn’t trust a word that came from this monster’s mouth.
"Think about it. We both have a common enemy: the aberrations. Wouldn’t it make more sense to work together?" Ye Sha pressed, his tone almost persuasive.
Li Chengfeng was taken aback. This... This is unlike any aberration I've ever encountered. It can think, reason... It talks like a human! He had never seen an aberration that was so articulate and rational. It was unsettling.
"Are you telling the truth? You won’t harm humans?" Li Chengfeng asked cautiously, his mind racing. The werewolf’s words had struck a chord with him—this was not the typical brute force he was used to from aberrations.
"Of course. I have no reason to lie. After all, I could tear you apart with a single swipe if I wanted to," Ye Sha replied, his tone casual, but with a hint of threat.
Li Chengfeng hesitated. The werewolf’s power was undeniable, and if it turned hostile, no one here could stop it. But... if it’s truly on our side, we might have a chance against the aberrations.
"Alright," Li Chengfeng finally said, after much internal debate. "I’ll trust you—for now."
"Good," Ye Sha said, his grin widening. "Now, get everyone outside to retreat. Once I leave, you can handle your business as usual."
"Understood," Li Chengfeng replied, pulling out his communicator. He began issuing orders to the guards downstairs to pull back and clear the area.
As Ye Sha heard the distant sound of cars moving below, his curiosity got the better of him. "What did you say to get them to follow your orders so easily?"
Li Chengfeng couldn’t help but let out a sigh. "I told them that there was still danger inside, and to avoid potential casualties, they should withdraw for now."
Ye Sha let out a booming laugh. "Haha! So now you’ve officially allied with an aberration. You’re on a sinking ship!" His laughter was loud and grating, like the sound of a broken horn.
Li Chengfeng scowled, feeling humiliated. "You tricked me!" he grumbled under his breath.
"Well, now you can’t back out," Ye Sha teased. "And you better hope I keep my word. If you betray me, I’ll make sure the humans know exactly what you did."
"Dammit!" Li Chengfeng muttered, but there was no turning back now.
"Now, go down. I don’t want you to see what I’m doing with Liu Yuning," Ye Sha ordered, his eyes narrowing.
Li Chengfeng gritted his teeth. He knew there was no point in arguing. With a resigned sigh, he turned and walked toward the stairs, leaving Ye Sha alone on the rooftop.
As he descended, the heavy weight of the situation settled over him. What had started as a routine mission had now spiraled into something far more dangerous and unpredictable.
