The Cursed Object

Ye Sha sat in front of his computer, deeply immersed in collecting information about the anomalies, his eyes scanning over the horrifying images and strange data on the screen. Suddenly, a delicate hand reached over, holding an apple that had clearly been bitten into several times, and offered it near his mouth, signaling him to eat. Since returning from the mall incident, Liu Yuning had slept for several hours, waking up later with a pounding headache, as though she hadn’t slept for days. Despite her complaints of dizziness and the pain, Ye Sha had taken her to the hospital for a thorough checkup. The results came back clear—no physical anomalies, and no signs of possession or lingering effects from the incident. As for the time she had been taken by the strange anomaly, Liu Yuning had no memory. She remembered only crouching on the ground, clutching her ears, before everything went dark, and then she had woken up hours later with no further recollection. Ye Sha was relieved by this. He was happy that Liu Yuning had been spared the traumatic memories that would likely haunt her for a lifetime. As for those things, he would bear them alone. Since the mall incident, Liu Yuning had noticed a marked change in Ye Sha. His kindness and attentiveness had grown exponentially, and their relationship had become even closer—so much so that they were now living together as a couple, though Ye Sha still hesitated to take the final step. Despite that, Liu Yuning was incredibly happy. After all, time and patience often worked wonders, and she was willing to wait. As Liu Yuning snacked on the apple, seemingly indifferent to the terrifying images on the "Anomalous Network" displayed on the screen, Ye Sha continued to observe the strange content. He had grown accustomed to her lack of fear toward the anomalies. She had become bolder since he started taking care of her—almost as if she saw the anomalies as just another oddity rather than a source of danger. Ye Sha, however, wasn’t so carefree. His mind lingered on the strange voice and actions of the anomaly he had encountered in the mall—the one who acted as a gym instructor one moment and then, in the next breath, was controlling people through the mall's PA system. It was all erratic, almost mad behavior, completely different from the usual patterns of anomalies he had encountered. Most anomalies had deep-seated obsessions or fixations that governed their behavior, but Ye Sha couldn’t understand what the "broadcasting anomaly" was obsessed with. Could it be…? He looked at the headset sitting on top of his computer's case. It had been taken from the strange man who had been the source of the anomalous broadcasts. Ye Sha hadn’t thrown it away, choosing to bring it home instead. He couldn’t shake the feeling that this object held something important, something he might still need to understand. “Boss, I’m hungry. Could you make something for me?” Liu Yuning’s voice interrupted his train of thought. Ye Sha smiled faintly, wanting to send her away for a moment so he could investigate the headset further. He didn’t want it near her in case it was dangerous. "Sure. Go ahead and cook something while I look into this." "Alright!" Liu Yuning gave his face a playful pinch before skipping off to the kitchen. Once she was gone, Ye Sha’s gaze returned to the headset. He turned it over in his hands, inspecting it carefully, but couldn’t figure out why it felt so significant. It looked like an ordinary headset, after all. "Maybe I should just take it apart," he thought, an idea forming in his mind. Lately, he had noticed that his strength—his true form—had been growing, surpassing human limits. Perhaps now he could handle whatever this thing might throw at him. As he gripped the headset tighter, preparing to apply force, a voice suddenly rang in his head—sharp, familiar, and terrifying. "Don’t... don’t..." The voice whispered, pleading. Ye Sha froze in shock, immediately recognizing it as the same voice from the broadcasts! The voice of the anomaly! Was it still alive? Liu Yuning’s head peeked from the kitchen, her curiosity piqued. "Ye Sha, what’s wrong?" "Boss, stay in the kitchen! Don’t come out!" Ye Sha commanded sharply, not turning around. Liu Yuning, trusting him completely, nodded and quickly retreated back into the kitchen, resuming her cooking. Ye Sha’s eyes never left the headset on the floor. His voice dropped to a low growl as he spoke, his eyes glinting with anger, "You’re still alive?" The voice in his head replied weakly, "No… not… not me… it…" The voice didn’t come from the physical world, but from inside Ye Sha’s mind, as though speaking directly from within his body. "Who are you then?" Ye Sha’s curiosity was piqued, and although he didn’t sense any immediate danger from the voice, he remained cautious. "I am… the headset… the headset…" the voice stammered, its words broken and incoherent. It took some time, but Ye Sha finally pieced together the truth. This wasn’t just any ordinary headset—it had become an object of possession, a cursed item that had taken on an independent will. The strange man who had used it in life had been obsessed with becoming a gym instructor, but had failed time and time again to earn his certification. That had been his fixation, his driving obsession. However, after the "Gym Incident," this anomaly had grown to focus on Ye Sha. It had transferred its obsession to him, chasing him all the way to the mall. The headset, which had originally belonged to the man, was now the source of the strange broadcasts and the power behind the mind-controlling black mist that had manipulated Liu Yuning and other anomalies. "But you’re just an object—nothing but a tool. I can’t let you stay here," Ye Sha said coldly, his mind racing with ways to deal with this new danger. "I… I’m a tool… a weapon… I need to depend… on someone… to use my powers…" The voice pleaded, trying to justify its existence. Ye Sha narrowed his eyes, his grip tightening on the headset. "How can I trust you?" "I will… not harm you… I can only… serve…" the voice answered in broken fragments, as if sensing Ye Sha’s hesitation and attempting to explain itself. The more it spoke, the more Ye Sha felt disgusted. The object’s power was undeniably dangerous, and though it wasn’t inherently an anomaly, it had the potential to become a devastating weapon. Ye Sha couldn’t afford to let his guard down. "You really think I’ll let you live?" Ye Sha’s voice grew colder as he prepared to destroy the object. "After everything you’ve done, I’m not letting you stay in my world." The voice’s reply was a faint, desperate whimper, but Ye Sha had already made up his mind. The cursed headset had to go.
