Finally free from the terrifying gym, Ye Sha stepped into the scorching sunlight. For the first time, he didn't resent its heat but found it comforting instead.
Although he had the resilient body of a werewolf, anomalies were unpredictable and killed in countless bizarre ways. Take, for example, that eerie old man—just one glance at him, and you’d drop dead. Even if Ye Sha were Wolverine, it wouldn't matter. Revive, look again, and die once more—a perfect BUG-like death loop!
Outside the commercial building, the area was swarming with armed police officers, their weapons ready and their vigilance high.
Despite being close by, the police hadn't intervened earlier. It wasn't a delay on their part; the floor where the gym was located had been enveloped in a mysterious black fog, barring their entry.
As people began escaping the building, the officers didn't rush to question them but instead directed them to a designated area to rest. Their caution was understandable—they feared the anomaly might have followed someone out. In this world, where anomalies ran rampant, caution was paramount.
"Boss, it's over. We made it out alive!"Seeing Liu Yuning staring blankly at her ruined gym, Ye Sha tried to comfort her. He wasn’t sure if she was in shock from the anomaly or mourning the loss of her business’s future.
"Ye Sha, thank you!"Liu Yuning snapped out of her daze and suddenly hugged him tightly. She knew that everyone had survived thanks to Ye Sha.
Caught off guard by the embrace of such a stunning woman, Ye Sha froze. The scent of her sporty perfume and the feel of her fiery, curvaceous body stirred an inappropriate reaction in him.
"You..."Just as Liu Yuning was about to speak, she sensed the heat radiating from him and quickly understood. Instead of letting go, she hugged him tighter, making his breathing even more labored.
"No… don’t… hold so tight..." Ye Sha forced himself to suppress his werewolf instincts, speaking with difficulty.
"Hmph, you little rascal! I’ll let you off the hook this time."Hearing his trembling voice, Liu Yuning finally let go, her beautiful face tinged with a blush as she playfully chided him.
Ye Sha immediately turned away, desperately summoning mental images of less appealing figures to calm himself down. Only then did he manage to suppress his urges.
The black fog outside the gym began to dissipate, signaling that the anomaly masquerading as a fitness coach had likely fled.
The police, now organized into squads, cautiously advanced into the building. Each team was accompanied by a strange, masked individual dressed in peculiar attire. Their purpose was unclear.
A group of these masked figures approached the survivors, carrying devices that resembled metal detectors, and began scanning everyone.
"What the hell are you doing? I just escaped death, and now you’re scanning me? Screw off!"Some of the more hot-tempered survivors, already upset about being confined to the area, couldn’t hold back their frustration.
"Shut up! We're saving your lives! How do we know if the anomaly left something on you? If you don’t want to die, stay put!"The masked figures didn’t back down, retorting sharply. Their reasoning, however, was sound.
Grumbling, the unhappy survivors settled down, refraining from causing further trouble.
Ye Sha grew nervous. As a half-anomaly himself, he worried the scanner might expose him. What would he do then? Run? Transform into a werewolf and flee into the mountains?
There wasn’t much time to think. A masked figure was already approaching him with a device.
Luckily, just as the machine began flashing red and emitting warning beeps, it abruptly shut down—it was out of battery!
Irritated, the masked figure muttered under their breath and went to fetch a replacement device. When they returned, they started scanning Liu Yuning instead, skipping over Ye Sha.
"Dodged a bullet there," Ye Sha exhaled in relief. Keeping his secret was crucial. If his werewolf form were discovered, he’d never survive in human society.
After the scans, the masked figures declared the area clear. The survivors were escorted onto ambulances, where they received medical treatment and were questioned about the incident.
A young police officer, notebook in hand, approached Ye Sha.
"Ye Sha, right? We owe you a big one this time!"From the survivors, he had learned that this sturdy young man had acted bravely and cleverly, angering the anomaly but leading everyone to safety in the process.
"It was nothing, really. Survival instincts kicked in, and I took a risky path," Ye Sha replied modestly, avoiding any sign of arrogance.
"Don’t be so humble! No ordinary person in Jiangyang City has ever escaped an anomaly’s hunt before, let alone led so many to safety!"The young officer’s admiration was genuine, his words devoid of exaggeration.
"Ordinary people? So those guys aren’t ordinary?"Ye Sha shifted the conversation, pointing to the masked figures, hoping to glean more information.
"Of course not! They’re from the Bureau of Anomaly Slayers!"The officer’s tongue slipped, but he quickly realized his mistake, covering his mouth and refusing to say more.
"The Bureau of Anomaly Slayers?"Ye Sha repeated the name in his mind. Its literal meaning suggested an organization dedicated to eliminating anomalies. Clearly, humanity had developed measures to counter these threats.
Even so, Ye Sha remained wary. As a half-anomaly himself, he couldn’t trust the bureau completely. If they ever discovered his secret, they might cut him down without a second thought.
