Chapter Two
Ruth’s POV
“Don’t come here and try to fake the tears, asshole!” I yelled at him immediately I saw him holding the bars of the prison cell.
I was locked up in the pack prison, waiting for my execution which was the following day.
“Babe, I’m sorry,” Williams said.
“Don’t ever in your f*****g life call me that!” I shunned him. “Sorry that you let a weak lady take the blame for your own illegal deed?” I questioned him curtly.
“This wasn’t how I planned to …” He was still running in circles and I shunned him.
“It already happened!” I snapped him out of his fruitless thoughts. “Williams, you lied to me! You used me! You knew this was going to happen, that was also why you let me take the fall!” I cried out to him dolefully, falling to the dirty ground.
“Please, understand me. I know your father is not going to hurt you.” I couldn’t believe I was hearing such a statement from him.
“Then, you don’t know my father at all.” I shook my head seriously. “If he could kill my mother, his own wife, who am I?” I raised a disgusting brow and his eyes blinked.
I wasn’t even seeing any atom of guilt or pity in his eyes yet he claimed he was sorry.
“Please, forgive me. I was so selfish.” He lowered his head sadly and I smirked.
“It’s not too late,” I said, after a long silence and his gaze narrowed to my direction, giving me an anxious stare. “You can still call everyone and confess, tell them you are the real criminal and you used me for your benefit!” I urged him seriously, and he was a bit taken aback by my statement then he shook his head.
“I’m sorry, Ruth.” That was the last word he said.
“What?” I was still in a daze when he slowly walked out of the prison hallway. “Williams? Williams!” I called him back but to no avail, I ended up laughing at my miserable self.
I ended up trusting the wrong man which led to my doom. But I can’t die. I can’t let my life waste like this. He has to pay for his crime or atone for it.
“I’m innocent.” My heart bled.
Soon, a guard strolled to my corner with a tray of sumptuous meals. These past few days, I have been fed leftovers or just soup, and seeing wine, fruits, rice salad, and chicken, I was startled.
“What’s going on?” I asked, staring at the grumpy old guard.
“The date for your execution has been changed to tonight, have your last meal.” The guard laughed, pushing the tray further to me. I didn’t take in the news as my eyes shifted to the keys dangling on his waist. I guess he didn’t notice when I snatched it.
The hallway was quiet when I struggled with the locks until it opened, skeptically, I walked out of the prison and finally, I was able to see light again.
I started running into the woods, making sure that I wasn’t spotted but it took only a few minutes before I started hearing the pack war bell, it was ringing heavily.
“s**t!” I hissed as I increased my pace into the woods.
Inwardly, I knew if I was caught, it would be death on sight. I know how ruthless my father can be, he has no emotion for his family members.
I could hear hoofing and howls sound from behind me and grasses clearing, I became scared and quickly transformed into my wolf form. I assume it would be difficult to spot me.
By the time I woke up, I couldn’t explain what happened the entire night. Was it that I was chased? Heavy rain with thunder strike happened? Then, I couldn’t remember what happened next.
I saw myself in a wooden hut, lying on the floor with a sharp headache banging inside of me.
“Where am I?” I mumbled with unclear words as I gradually got my balance on the wooden chair.
It looked like an abandoned hut and I couldn’t remember how I successfully escaped and crashed here.
“You need to leave,” Suddenly, a sharp voice urged me and I quickly stood up and beeline to the exit.
When I stepped out, I was still in the woods - unfamiliar with my location. Then, a small paper poster grabbed my attention, it was plastered on the wall.
“What?” My voice trembled as I stepped backward, unable to take in the news.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Hot tears rolled from my weak wet eyes as I could no longer rein them in. My father had disowned and abandoned me, it proved that I could no longer go back home to a lover or a family.
What was I expecting?
“Chase her! Catch her!” That was the fierce masculine voice I heard, and rustling in the bush as I took off.
“Who was it? Are they still chasing me?” I have never been so scared and confused in my entire life.
I went from one path to another, confused about where to go. I was homeless, where did I know aside from my pack? But now, I could no longer return.
Suddenly, I saw smoke coming from a distance, that’s proof that someone was there. But will the person save me or a trap?
Maybe I was born to take risks as I couldn’t control my legs from leading me in that direction.
When I got there, I panted heavily. Before me was the most charming figure I have ever seen with my eyes, tall, had short brown hair, sharp ocean blue eyes, and a weird wolf tattoo on his arm, he was wearing a white sleeveless and long jeans. He was roasting a big deer in the burning fire.
He noticed me but didn’t seem to care about me when I noticed the enemies were getting closer. I dived into the bush closer to him and hid. I heard my chasers stop immediately when they saw him.
I could see them slightly from where I hid.
“Did you see any woman or wolf pass here?” One of my chasers asked him strictly but he didn’t look at them, his focus was on his roasting deer.
“Sir, did you see anyone?” Another man asked him and he sighed, giving them a long look.
My heart beat faster as I hoped he wouldn’t sell me out. I became anxious.
“I didn’t see anyone.” He shook his head and I almost gasped.
Why did he save me? Was it an intentional action?
My chasers gave the environment a long look and when they spotted nothing, they left grumpily. I exhaled in relief as I stepped out from my hiding.
“Thank…” I hadn’t completed my statement when he interrupted me.
“Get her!” He charged some people who surfaced from their hiding and grabbed my arms.
“What?” I stared at him in shock and confusion.
