Prologue
Prologue There are two most important events that take place in the life of an average werewolf. The very first important event occurs when the child with werewolf genes shift into his or her beast form for the very first time. Shifting into your beast form is like acquiring a status that is higher than any human in their worlds. The child usually shifts before the age of ten-years-old and it is celebrated annually to welcome the new members to the pack officially. It is a sign from the Goddess that the child born with those genes is special and not an ordinary human. The second most important event that takes place is when they find their soul-mates. Werewolves usually discover their mates around the age of twenty-one since that is the coming-of-age for any werewolf. Whereas humans deem eighteen-year-old as an official adult, this does not apply for your average werewolf. For them, twenty-one-years old is the age where they are deemed as an official adult. There is an exception cases for some werewolves where three important events occur in their life. This category is solely for those who are born into the Alpha-family. These families are considered as aristocrats as they carry a superior gene unlike any average werewolf. Their superior genes are unlocked when they reach twenty-one-years old. Every alpha family holds a ceremony to celebrate the new alpha as the old ones step down. The alpha family takes care of everything from managing a business in the human world to taking care of their packs needs. They are considered as elites among various werewolves pack. Each Alpha family consists of an Alpha and a Luna. Alpha is the male wolf who runs the show, and a Luna is a she-wolf who takes care of the matter of the pack from backstage. A Luna is considered as her counterpart alphas equal. She is neither inferior nor powerless in front of her alpha. She has the same standing as her alpha in the pack as she bears the future alpha of the pack. Every Alpha family has a first-born male child that is named as 'the future alpha' of their packs. They usually consider the first-born as the future leaders since they are born with a gene that will be more powerful than their younger siblings. For centuries there have been such families consisting of Alpha and a Luna. However, my parents were an exception. In a world that was run by norms, my pack was the first pack ever that consisted of two alpha-males running a pack together. My parents, Christopherus Marcoux Graham and Davidus Aldaine Nomi, were an odd pair in the so-called normal world of werewolves. There had been pure hell when my fathers joined forces together as mates. All the packs in the country lived with the fear of the Seline Pack growing stronger beyond unreasonable means. Any pack is a threat if they are stronger than you. Not only was my pack stronger, we also had an empire built by my father. Christopherus was not only just an alpha of this pack, but also the CEO and founder of the Marcoux Enterprises. It was a company that focuses on solar power energy plants. It was a successful one and landed our pack with a lot of money. Seline Pack combined with wealth backing us up was something no one in our world ever wanted. This was one of the reasons why most packs went on war with each other. Werewolves are naturally power hungry creatures whose hunger can never be satiated with just money. However, both packs, Seline and BlueMoon, in the Stephard Town lived in peace side-by-side since both alphas of the pack had sons who were mated to each other. In a way, the Seline Pack and the BlueMoon Pack joined forces together with blood instead of a written treaty. As long as I remember, both of my parents were dominating in their own ways. Christopherus was an alpha male through and through with an intimidating aura surrounding him. He toward over everyone with a height of six feet four inches. All the normal werewolves naturally cowered under his presence whenever he passed by them. He carried himself in a dignified manner and hardly spoke to anyone out of unnecessary means. His brown eyes were not warm in the least and glinted with assessment. Christopherus invoked fear among our members to make sure they did not step out line. Davidus, on the other hand, was a spit-fire. He was lean and hardly had any muscles to back up his fighting spirit. He was an odd looking fellow within the werewolves and everyone in the pack avoided him as much as they could. He looked unique with stark white hair and red, bloody irises that made him look demonic. His pale skin was spotless, safe for the tattoo covering his neck in a thin, intricate black design. David was not a wallflower like his mate, but he wasn't exactly warm and loving either. He may have raised his sons with warmth and openness, but he was completely cold regarding other members. Last, but not least, I was 'blessed' with two more brothers who made my life an existing hell. "You had it last time!" "I did not!" "Don't lie Jonah! I saw you wearing it! Where did you keep my watch?!" The worst thing in life to wake up to was having your brothers fight like thirteen year old girls right outside your bedroom door. I peeked my eye open and stared at the clock beside me, the bold print of number eight burning brightly in my dark cozy room. I could still hear my brothers bickering outside and it made me groan when one of them barged in. "Tell him to lay off! I'm sick of hearing him whining!" Jonah barked as he walked into my room like he owned it with Isaiah angrily following him like a bull. "Oh, don't you dare involve him! If you were smart enough to know where to keep things back in their place, maybe I wouldn't be shouting at you. Goddess!" Isaiah exclaimed, glaring back at his replica with a look full of anger. His icy blue eyes shone in the dim room sharply as he glared into Jonah's soft brown eyes. Oh Goddess, they were having another stupid fight. I groaned and rolled over, "Get out of my room. It's too early to even look at your faces." I mumbled and tried to go back to sleep, but Jonah wouldn't have it. "Tell him to shut up. I'll buy you another one you freak!" "What part of 'it was an antique' do you not understand? Uncle Felix had given it to me as a gift and I want you to find it now!" "Well I can't remember where I kept it. I tried finding it but it's just gone." "Things don't just disappear Jonah!" "Well it did, Isaiah!" Isaiah, who was naturally calm, was permeating his anger through out my entire room. Though it didn't bother me, I knew it greatly scared Jonah. The silence made me peek my eyes open to see Isaiah giving Jonah a look of pure anger. "You won't get away this time, I swear." He hissed and left my bedroom, slamming it as hard as he could with all his might. Jonah sighed and laid down beside me, grumbling under his breath. "We'll see about that." Was all he said before he got under my covers and pulled himself closer to me. I turned around and looked at him with a small frown. "Why do you borrow his things when you know you'll lose it? It's unwise Jonah." Jonah gave me a snide look. "I wanted to just wear it, okay? Besides, he can buy another one. It doesn't matter. He's just being over dramatic." He scoffed indignantly. He sounded like a seventeen-year-old instead of a twenty-year-old. It didn't help that he still looked like he was sixteen. He was comparatively short with his five feet six inches. Wolves are naturally taller so he stood out with all the towering beats in the pack house. He was still as skinny without an ounce of muscle. His high cheek bones pointed out like one of the models in vogue. As if to make his appearance more feminine, his light blonde hair was shiny and silky. To make it worse, he was an original omega. The word burned like acid in my mouth and sizzled in my mind. It still baffled me how I could hate the word so much yet love my brother endlessly. It just wasn't a word, it was Jonah's curse. He wouldn't admit how much it bothered him and shaped him into who he was today. He wouldn't admit how he hated when someone raised their voice at him. He wouldn't admit how much we scared him-well Isaiah anyways. I know for a fact that Jonah feels safe around me. And that's how it should remain for the rest of our lives. I don't mind him constantly hanging around me. There are times when my mood would slip and my anger would be too much for him to handle, but Jonah would stay beside me. He would soothe me, comfort me and respect me. Despite being twenty and nearing the age of twenty one, Jonah's admiration for me hadn't changed since we were kids. Isaiah on other hand was careless, cold and sometimes demeaning. He knows Jonah's. . . .issues, yet he doesn't bother to treat him specially. Isaiah was more like our father Chris, cold and blank half the time. It's just pretty annoying for me yet intimidating for Jonah. You must be wondering why I care so much about Jonah. Oh sure, we're siblings and are supposed to care about each other, but my duty as a future alpha I need to be empathetic. I need to understand from a weak persons point of view and though Jonah didn't show his vulnerability, I knew the truth. Jonah was weak and sheltered, he was someone who needed constant protection and I was the one. I was the one who knew the truth besides my parents and uncles. It's been drilled into my head that Jonah is, in a way, my responsibility. "Are you seriously going back to sleep?" Jonah's soft voice echoed around the room and I opened my eyes with a sigh. "Can a guy not sleep to his content?" I asked him with a yawn and Jonah huffed. "Nope. I'm hungry. Aren't you suppose to complete the files dad handed to you? Isn't your tuition going to start soon?" He asked me tauntingly and I groaned. Since I was the Alpha, my dad was teaching me how to be one. He taught me how to handle his company and even hired a professional tutor who would teach me business, economics and accounting. It's horrible enough to have your dad in the same room working silently while the tutor did his best to teach me. I wasn't exactly dumb, but I wasn't exactly the smartest kid in the family. Isaiah took the place and studied in a well off college in the neighborhood. He wanted to be a neurologist and was getting halfway though. While Jonah was studying in the towns institute about some elementary teaching course. Jonah loved kids and I guess it was because kids never intimidate him. However, I didn't exactly hate kids, I just didn't concern myself with them. We were all very busy in our lives, yet Jonah always found time to actually fight with one of us. Since I mostly ignored the temptation to actually fight him, Isaiah would give in easily. I knew that it was just Jonah trying to get our attention, however Isaiah didn't. Or maybe he did but he didn't like Jonah's intentions. "Don't remind me." I said with disgust and Jonah got off the bed. "Hup hup. It's nine already. I have to go to the institute in an hour anyways. I would appreciate it if you get your fat butt off the bed and join me for breakfast today." He tried to demand but it just wasn't in his nature to boss others around. I pouted at him, knowing it irritated him to no end. "I don't have a fat butt, it's fabulous. Thank you very much." I teased him and he crossed his arms over with narrowed eyes, as if he knew exactly what I was about to say. "Besides, not everyone can be underweight like you." And that made him go red in the face. "I am not underweight, just a bit skinny." He stuck his tongue out. "At least I look healthy. You're like a walking steroid mountain!" He exclaimed and I rolled my eyes as I passed him to go to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth lazily and grimaced at my image in the mirror. Although we were triplets and had the same features, we looked so different. It was all thanks to our weight and different hair/eye color. I mean, I had blue eyes too, but they weren't icy blue, they were dark shade. So dark they were almost black. And whereas Isaiah and Jonah were both very pale, I had a slight tan thanks to the sports activities I joined back in high school. I had the same high cheek bones that looked more masculine and my muscles flexed every time I moved. I was the walking steroid mountain where as Isaiah had a very lithe figure. He had a body of a swimmer and he wasn't that muscular, but nearly as tall as me. Then there was our youngest brother Jonah who seemed completely different. He was tall, but not that tall. He was super thin and had that grace of a dancer. I don't know why or how he learned to walk gracefully like a dancer, but he did. His movements were always fluid, like mercury and it creeped me out sometimes. It even looked like he isn't walking sometimes but gliding, which is strange. The thing that made Jonah stand out was his naturally bleached blonde hair that were almost, but not quite, the same shade of our father Davidus. Not to mention that he looked like any other omega. Small and vulnerable. Jonah had soft features compared to mine or Isaiah. Isaiah's face looked a like an attractive stone sculpture. Mine just looked like a copy of my other father Chris', but with attractive eye. Heh. We had the same face cut, just different features and personality. Although I wonder how it would be like if we all looked exactly alike. That would be creepy. I quickly brushed my teeth and washed my face before walking out of the bathroom to see Jonah sitting on my bed with a book. He looked up with a sheepish look as he held up the watch so I could see it . I sighed hopelessly. "I found the watch I borrowed from our lovely brother." Jonah stated the obvious with an embarrassed flush. "I forgot that I left it under your bed last time I came in here." He sighed and just gave him a crooked smile. Oh Jonah, you're a helpless case. I quickly wore a clean shirt over my pajamas, since I could never sleep naked with my brothers barging in randomly. We got up and Jonah chatted about how excited he was with his study course going and how it'll probably come to an end soon. He talked about his exams and what not, while I listened to it intently. Then he told me about his friends (human friends) who invited him to a bar this weekend. I made a mental note to carefully listen to the bar he mentioned so I could keep an eye on him from a distance. What can I do, I'm still as over-protective as always. Well what he doesn't know won't kill him. Besides Jonah didn't know the truth, the ability he had and I didn't want him making any mistakes. His downfall will be mine as well and I would fail as a brother. Most importantly, I would fail as an Alpha. We walked through our mansion of a pack house that had been renovated three years ago. It seemed that our pack was getting bigger and it was getting harder to keep the families together in this house. I had talked to my father about building another pack house for the members on the other land we owned but it was too much work. He said that it won't be a smart move since an Alpha needs to keep an eye over the entire pack and dividing it into two pack houses would mean more work for me in the future if I ever decided to do it in my leadership. Yeah, that's not going to happen anytime soon. As soon as we walked into the grand kitchen, we were greeted by stainless counters that seemed to go on forever and the over spacious room to fit twenty members. My uncles were currently sitting on the grand dining table that was connected to the kitchen by a door. They were discussing something important and I knew it would be about their heir issue. My dad told me about it, more like ranted to me about it. It's their problem but apparently being an alpha means it not just their problems, but Alphas as well. Being an Alpha means being nosy and getting away with it. It's one of the things I had to get used to and having stupid brothers trained me well enough how to interrogate them easily. Our uncles, Xavier and Ryan abruptly stopped talking to see us enter. Their serious looks vanished as they smiled at us, or tried to. Uncle Ryan entered the kitchen from the other side and approached us with a warm look. "Hey guys. You're up early." He said with an amused look and I pointed at Jonah. "Someone wouldn't let me sleep." Uncle Ryan shook his head as he headed over to the counter connected to the sink. "Well, I was about to make something for Xavier. Would you like omelettes or will pancakes do?" He asked us politely like he always did and I agreed to an omelette while Jonah wanted to eat pancakes. He offered to help our uncle where as I drifted over to the dining table my uncle was currently occupying. "Hey uncle Xav." I greeted him as I sat on his opposite side. Xavier was a complete replica of my father and despite being a son, I couldn't tell my dad and uncle apart. It's not my fault since they're identical twins with brown eyes and light brown hair. "Everything alright?" I asked him as I noticed the stress lines etched to his normally youthful age. "I wish." He breathed out and glanced at Ryan who was beating eggs while talking to Jonah. Xavier looked back at me with a troubled look. "I don't know what to do honestly. I don't want a kid right now but your stupid father is pressuring me about having one. Is it bad that I don't want a child of my own?" He asked me with a lost look and I shrugged. "Not really." It wasn't much of an answer but he accepted it. "I want to adopt a child, a werewolf one," He added quickly at my confused look. "but Ryan thinks it's not a good idea." I knew why Uncle Ryan thought it wasn't a good idea. Because my uncle Xav was very peculiar. . . about things. Only blood mattered for him. He was a beta who was only ever protective about us. He spoiled us to no end and loved us endlessly. He never treated other pack kids like he treated us so it was not shocking to know what Ryan was worried about. He should be. If uncle Xavier didn't like the child, he might totally ignore him altogether. That would be worse since an orphan would require more love, support and comfort than my uncle is willing to offer. "I think so too, uncle Xav. You need to create a beta and the only way to do that is to have your own child. Adoption is too. . .risky. What if the child turns out to be too weak to handle the pack duties?" I questioned and I could see the indecision and disgust in his eyes. It dawned on me that he didn't want his own heir. No, he wanted nothing to do with a child. Be it his own or an adopted one. He wanted to basically burden Ryan so he could divert his mates attention. I knew my uncle was selfish, but I didn't know he was this selfish. I didn't comment as Ryan and Jonah set up the table with cheery smiles. The heavy air that hung around uncle Xav didn't completely disappear but it withered away a bit. He ate his breakfast silently and I could see his body tensing as Ryan sat beside him and asked Jonah about his schedule for the day. I didn't get my uncle Xavier sometimes. I mean, I remember him being warm and loving when we were kids, but as we grew up I noticed things I never did as a child. I noticed he was selfish and that he particularly didn't enjoy his relationship with Ryan. It might be the fact that Ryan was still an omega and being Xavier's mate didn't revoke his position like it normally would. Despite being the Betas mate, Ryan was considered to be of a lower rank. Members with lower rank usually took care of house cleaning duties since we couldn't trust and hire humans to work in the mansion. Sometimes I wondered what it is like to work for the pack that didn't care about you. What was it like to join such a pack for a mate who didn't love you? Ryan was more of a servant than a betas mate. Maybe things can change once I become an Alpha, I thought confidently. First thing I'll do is make sure I revoke Ryan's over due status. Next I'll have to hire a spy for Jonah since I'll be a very busy Alpha. Then have the library extended for Isaiah and add new books so it would keep him busy. Then, I have no idea. Maybe build a gym somewhere within the pack house so I wouldn't have to go all the way to the gym in the town. Ryan was desperately trying to look as if nothing was bothering him. Jonah may not notice it, but I saw it. Ryan was severely depressed and his eyes were an open window to it. I guess having a child can help their case. Although I doubt it sometimes whenever I see them together. Xavier, who hardly spoke a word to his mate and left the table. Ryan, who seemed as if nothing was bothering him even though it must be killing him on the inside. A child could either become a buffer or a point of separation. My life was laid down for me ever since I was born. All I have to do is reach the age of twenty-one, become an alpha, find my mate, inherit my father's company and live a busy life like him. It sometimes frustrated me with how everything was planned down to the T. Then again, it was better than being a lower ranked werewolf in a powerful pack. Their relationship did not give me any hopes in the least. But then again, fates can be strange and I was soon going to find out why.
