Chapter 2

Karen I need to get out of here, I need to go tell my mom and Dave that I am alive. I tried to move my body again but couldn’t. “I think it's going to take a while before you can move your body again, you don't have to force it,” Nurse Vivian said, forcing herself to smile at me. “How long is it going to take?” I wanted to ask her, but still couldn't find my voice. I just laid still on the bed I was transferred to watching them examine my body. “Her body seems to be in a good condition,” Chris told Vivian who nodded in agreement. “Watch her Vivian, I will get doctor Hamilton,” Chris said and left the room. Vivian just stared at me with keen interest until the Doctor arrived with Chris and resumed examining my body. Shortly afterwards, Emily and Liam walked into my room. “How is my daughter?” Emily asked authoritatively, peering at Doctor Hamilton. She sounded so bossy unlike before. “She is fine ma'am, there is nothing to worry about,” Doctor Hamilton replied. “Thank goodness?” Emily muttered, allowing Liam to hug her briefly again. I peered at them, are they all blind that they failed to notice that I was a stranger? My name is Karen and not Arya, they really should get their eyes checked since they were at the hospital. I suddenly recalled that my mom and Dave also didn't seem to know it was me, when I was wheeled past them. “Doctor,” I yelled when the doctor and nurses were about to leave, but they couldn’t hear me, it was all in my head, I parted my lips but didn’t make a sound. Why can’t I speak? My heart raced in my chest. “Ayra darling, is there something you want to say?” Laim asked, drawing the attention of others to me again. “I am not Ayra,” I yelled at him, still no words, frustrated, I just glared at him. “Doctor, why isn't she talking?” Emily asked, her face suddenly looking terrified again, did she just notice? I have a lot to say, good thing she had questioned the doctor. “Excuse me,” Doctor Hamilton said, walking to my bedside again. He examined me further, “I don't think there should be any cause for alarm, we just need to give her some time to rest.” Doctor Hamilton said, gesturing to the nurse with his gaze. I think they understood what he wanted them to do because they immediately got busy. “We are going to give you a little shot of this Miss, don't worry, it wouldn’t hurt,” Doctor Hamilton said, lifting a needle in front of my eyes before injecting it, and it didn't take long before I started feeling dizzy. “Don’t worry mom, Dave, I will be out of here soon, and I'm going to be back home with you.” I muttered to myself and drifted off to sleep. *** “You are finally awake?” Liam said, staring into my face the moment I opened my eyes. He was sitting beside me on the bed and his hands were groping my body, I think that's what woke me up. “You gave me a fright,” I yelled in my head, furious about his behavior. “What, you still can't speak?” Liam asked, wearing a rather unconcerned look, different from the one he wore some moments ago in the presence of everyone. I glanced around the room realizing I was still in my room in the hospital but alone with Liam. “Wait, don't tell me you still can't speak?” Liam asked, tilting his head backwards with a smirk, causing me to glare at him especially after realizing that I still can't speak. I tried to move my body too but can't seem to do that as it felt like a heavy weight was pressing my body down onto the bed. “Wait, did the accident knock a little bit of bravery into you, how dare you glare at me like that?” Liam asked, glaring back at me and looking like he was going to hit me to my surprise. The room door suddenly swung open causing Liam to stand up abruptly. “Is she awake?” Emily asked, walking towards my bed. “Oh, yes, Emily, I was going to go call you,” Liam said, suddenly wearing that concerned look again. “Sweetheart,” Emily touched my face. “how are you feeling?” She asked, searching my eyes. “She still can't speak, Emily,” Liam replied in my stead. “What?” Emily muttered, her face turning pale but before she could speak again the door swung open with two young girls about my age walking in. “Emily, we came as soon as we heard,” one of the girls said, walking up to Emily. They look sophisticated. My guess is that they are of the same wealthy class. “I hope it isn't so bad,” the other girl asked, turning her gaze at me. “She seemed alright but I don't know why she isn't talking,” Emily replied, turning her pale face to me again. “Can you stop touching me?” I yelled when Emily's hand touched my face again, feeling irritated by her touch. I gasped along with the others in the room when I realised I just spoke out loud. “She can speak,” one of the girls said, turning to face Emily, whose face was still pale. I believe she was taken aback to hear me speak after Emily told her I couldn't speak. “Ayra, are you alright?” the second girl asked, wearing a concerned look. “Who the heck are you?” I snapped, peering into her face. “Ayra, these are your friends, Julie and Grace,” Liam said, pointing from one girl to the other. “And this is your mother,” he added, pointing at Emily. “Who are you?” I peered curiously in his eyes, sensing some kind of deception here. He was about to hit me earlier but now he is acting so nice and concerned. “Hey, girl, this is Liam, your boyfriend,” the girl Liam introduced as Grace said, looking a bit terrified. “I need to get the doctor here, I think the accident has affected my daughter’s brain,” Emily barely finished before i interrupted her. “I am alright ma'am, I just don't know you all so can you please leave,” I yelled, causing a grave silence in the room. What the hell?
