“What Council?” The conference room door slammed shut. The sound cracked through the hallway like a gunshot. I stood there for a beat, staring at the empty doorway while my heart hammered against my ribs. I moved, pushed the door open, and followed her into the hall. “Katharine!” A few employees looked up. Amanda nearly dropped her coffee. Chloe’s mouth actually fell open. I ignored them all. Katharine was already halfway to the elevators, her heels clicking sharply against the marble.
