Demi

590 Words
She was once a normal plain girl but there was nothing at all plain about Demi. Her beauty seemed to spring up from the earth itself and it was not long before she was noticed by those from inside and outside of the city. She was courted by a lot of boys especially in the university. And yeah, she considers them boys. For her, they are all little boys who prized themselves and do not know commitment and don't value or make connections well. Demi never tried so hard with her courses but with writing. She loves submitting herself to the warmth of the words than being with girls her age. She fancies candles more than make-ups. She likes the crisp sandalwood smell of the park rather than fancy instagrammable worthy coffee shops. How she wishes trains are dragons to ride with. How she dreams that she will receive a letter from a king that she is a long lost daughter or maybe the idea that she will receive a letter from Hogwarts. For some reason, she loathes the idea that she is living in a noisy and busy city. Convenient, yes. Comfortable, yes. However, she feels like she does not belong with it.  Always has hair ties around her wrist, Demi tied her long wavy hair and slowly walked upon the long alley of tall pine trees. She loves freeing her face from the strands of her hair but loves her hair so much she cannot afford to chop them short. The shortest she got was leveled to her shoulders. That’s just it. “I am not gonna cry. This is not so worth it. Not again”, Demi murmured as she suddenly feels trapped with the “world” she is in. She feels like she is born to be a follower in the city. Follower of fame, possessions and by society. Her routines are the same. Her days are going round and round. She shrugged off the lonely idea of this in an instant and blinked many times to remind herself that she is in a good state and that she should be grateful. Come to think of it, she is healthy and can eat three times a day - even with snacks. She is also about to graduate in a few weeks. The idea of graduation makes her excited and also afraid. She has been in an Education course for four years but she’s not sure if this is what she really wanted. Demi felt more obliged to finish it because she doesn't like to stop studying. It is the only course that she seemed to fit at the most affordable university in the city. The other courses are Engineering, Information Technology and Agriculture. With all four choices, she chose Education. She does not like Mathematics. She doesn't like being under the sun for so long if it is Agriculture. Demi was left with Information Technology and Education. She went to get Education because she thought it was too general. She can be in an office. She can be a government employee or pursue another course related to it when she has the capacity. All those were her thoughts when she was a freshman.  However, right now, it is easier said than done. She is like a driftwood floating in a river running to the sea. What is after college? Fun? Freedom? Nah. ADULTING. Demi raised her right hand to signal the bus that she is about to ride. Let the travel to home begin.
