Shadow Moon: Secrets

A New Home

Harry POV

                When Scarlett woke up, she had that same terrified face that she’d had earlier. She didn’t scream this time though, she just watched Lucille and me. The nurses had told us she hasn’t spoken much. But she did take a bath and she did eat a small amount of the dinner they served her. That was reassuring. It appeared her injuries were superficial.

                She blinked a few times and squeezed her wolf closer to her. “Hi.” She spoke softly again. Almost as though she was afraid to be too loud.

                “Hello Scarlett, this is my mate and wife, Lucille.” I said as I pointed at Lucille. Sitting up straight. Lucille gave Scarlett a wide smile.

                “Hello Scarlett. I hope we didn’t scare you. I just had to come meet you. Are you feeling, okay? Would you like some water?” Lucille stood up to grab the ice water from the bedside table and brought it over to Scarlett, gently offering it to her.

                Scarlett shyly reached up and took the cup. She took a couple slow drinks before she handed it back to Lucille. Lucille placed the glass down before sitting next to Scarlett on the edge of the bed.

                “Scarlett, have they spoken to you about your mom yet?” I watched as tears welled up in her eyes. They had. I hoped it was Alpha Nolan and Dr. Grace that explained the attack. I’d have to check later tonight. I wish they had waited for me.

                Scarlett let a few tears fall down her face. “Dr. Grace says we were attacked. They think my mom is with the moon goddess.” She spoke broken words through her tears. She wasn’t my pup, but I knew in that moment I would do anything to make sure she never cried again.

                Lucille didn’t wait for an invitation; she pulled the small girl to her tightly. Gently running her hand through her hair. “Shh. Shh. Now. It’s okay. It’s okay to be sad. “

                “Scarlett, we came down here because we wanted to check on you.” I continued. I hoped she would understand that we wanted to make her feel safe. Lucille was humming softly still gently patting Scarlett’s hair. “With your mom being with the goddess, Lucille and I thought maybe, you could stay with us?” I explained making it as simple as possible.

                Scarlett looked up at Lucille. “I can stay with you?” She asked. “I don’t have to be alone?” For so young she seemed beyond her years in wisdom. She just kept staring at Lucille and looked at me briefly.

                Lucille nodded at her. “If you would like to. I would like you to stay with us. I know I’m not your mom, but I would like to help keep you safe.” She added a bit watching Scarlett for any sign of distress. I was in awe at how well Lucille was handling this. Hell, I was in awe at how well Scarlett was.

                Scarlett showed a small smile, even through the tears that were still rolling gently down her face. “I guess that would be okay.” She said while looking up at Lucille again. Hugging her back.

                I sighed out heavily releasing a breath I didn’t know I was holding. I smiled at my mate. At Scarlett. Lucille just hugged Scarlett closer to her. “It’ll all be alright, little one.” I stood up and gently patted Scarlett’s hand.

                “I’ve got to go talk to Alpha Nolan and let him know our decision. Will you girls be okay alone?” I asked looking them both over. I didn’t want to leave yet but I needed to go make preparations for the addition to my family. As well as informing the Alpha. Scarlett would have a home with us for as long as she wanted and needed. The girls both nodded at me before I left the room.

                I made quick work of the stars bounding up to inform Alpha Nolan of our decision. The entire way mind linking omegas to set up the spare gamma room for a little girl.  Once I made it to his office, I quickly knocked on the door and walked inside a moment later.

                “Alpha Nolan, Lucille and I have decided to accept Scarlett into our home immediately. I have already mind linked a couple of the omegas to prepare a room for her on our floor.” I spoke with a pride I didn’t know I had felt until that moment. It might be temporary, but Scarlett was my pup.

                “Good. I figure you would decide as much. I am glad you did. “Nolan’s eyes seemed dark like he was holding back further information to try to congratulate me first. I raised my eyebrow looking at him as though I was waiting for him to continue.

                “The thing is Harry, we found out more about Scarlett. She isn’t a lone wolf. Her mother was a Luna. Scarlett is of alpha blood and was being hidden. Beta Adrian is on his way. We will finish discussing it when he arrives. “Nolan finished shortly. Gripping a photo in his hands. I wanted to argue and find out more right this second, but I knew better. I watched the door waiting for Adrian to arrive. How could there be more to Scarlett than what Nolan already told me?
