Chapter 2: Anna POV

“Please?” Lara said pouting her lips as she grabs my hand “I can’t go alone, pretty please?”
Leave it to Lara, my best friend from my college days, to try and make me join her in all her outings even when she knows I can’t right now.
I just rolled my eyes at her “You know I have to submit this proposal to Mr. Benson this night for his presentation tomorrow” I said smiling and concentrating on the laptop screen.
“Why are you even doing this, you’re always the one doing most of his work in this department while he takes the praises and still yet he did not agree to increase your salary or give you your deserved promotion” she said sitting on my desk and whispering angrily
I don’t really care what she is saying right now, so I just keep concentrating on my work and answer“You know Im not doing it for the promotion or money, in fact I am satisfied with my salary”
She said just hissed after hearing my reply and grabbed my face to look her as she comes closer and looked into my eyes, whispering with her puppy face
“What happened to you, you were not like this during our college days, you were never this nice or smiley like you are doing for the one year now. Tell me what happened, why don’t you want to tell me. I know something happened during my three-years stay at my family house, just please tell me” she said in a really sad way that made me almost in tears and tell her everything but I can’t so I just smiled to her and said “Stop overreacting, nothing happened and how is this my character strange, I love the new-me or don’t you love it” she said pushing her hand from my face while trying to pouting my lips as she did before
“Hey stop it. You know I don’t like it when you pout, you are too cute for that” she said smiling while touching my cheeks like Im a puppy
It seems like she as forgotten the issue fast, typical Lara
“But we can’t let Mr. Benson keep on making you do all his proposals while he takes the credit and praises, I hate……”
Someone coughed at our back interrupting Lara. When I turned back I saw Mrs. Linda, the CEO’s secretary and PA standing at our back looking at us smiling with her hands at her back. Immediately I stand up and greeted her while Lara still sat down still shocked. She is just shock to see the CEO’s PA, I know because nobody has seen her or the CEO in this floor before but Lara does not know I know her so I had to nudge her feet to bring her back to her senses and immediately she stand up and greet her
“Good afternoon to you two too” Mrs. Linda replied “hmmm Anna can I talk to you privately” she nudge her head to the break room.
What?! Did I do something wrong because she has never met privately before, but she is smiling, I just hope it is a good news
“Y-yes ma’am” I said with a shaking voice and she starting moving to the direction and I followed giving Lara sign with my mouth that I will be back to get her out of her shock and calm her down.
When we reach break room, Mrs. Linda immediate sat on one of the counter stools and pull another one opposite and gesture for me to sit down.
As I sat down, she was still quiet and smiling when she brought a white envelope from her bag and hand it over to me.
I just hope it is not a bad news. Oh lord, please let it not be a bad news
“Mrs. Linda what is this” I showed the envelope up
“I’ve told you before, call me Linda” she said smiling
“Oh sorry, Mrs I means Linda” I responded quickly so that I won’t get on her bad side oo even though it was awkward calling her that and that made her smile wider
“So what is inside this envelope” I said a little bit scared
She just smiled and gestured her hand telling me to open it.
Okay I can do this. I breath in and out slowly then start slowing opening the envelope
I can’t look it so I just closed my eyes and slowly opened it. When I brought the paper in the envelope, I slowly open my eyes and read the contents which says
Dear Anna Rose Hale,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been promoted to the position of Personal Assistant to the CEO, effective tomorrow. This promotion recognizes your dedication, professionalism, and valuable contribution in the Marketing Team.
Congratulations on your well-deserved promotion, we look forward to your continued success.

“What the f**k!!!!” Mrs. Linda wide her eyes in a shock expression while smiling
Wait did I say that out loud!!! f**k, f**k, fuck
“Sorry ma’am” I immediately stood up from my chair and apologize even still in my shock
“Don’t worry. I did not know why but I love your personality. You are so bright and hardworking, you deserve this position”
What!!!!!
“But you are the PA, I don’t get” I said now calmed down a little bit but still standing
“Ohhh I did not tell you, Im retiring soon and I need someone to take over my post so I choose you. Do you accept” she said
Wow!!! “Of course I accept” I replied immediately
“But why do you want to retire, you are still young for retirement” I said confused
“Ohhhhh” she said laughing “You should know that this PA job is not an easy job. You will not have time for yourself or private life and you know I have been working in this company for more than 20years now. I want to finally start relaxing. I just hope you accept this position so that I can now relax” she said jokingly fanning herself with her hand like she was tired which made me laugh a little bit
“Of course I’m accepting this position. You are the best” I said excitedly and immediately hugged and then I remembered
“Oh sorry” I pulled my hands off her which made her laugh for some reason
“Ohhh thank goodness”she breathed out loud like she has been holding her breaths since and then proceed to hug me this time and I accepted it gently “I don’t be sorry, remember Im like your friend” she said whispering in my eyes while I kept on smiling
