I can’t believe this is happening to me. When I entered the company today I expected my usual normal and boring day in the office and instead Linda, my secretary, which used to be my dad’s when he was the CEO, calmly told me she is retiring from her post. How am I going to manage this when she is the only person in this company that I can tolerate. “Sir are u listening” my head reels back to Linda sitting in front of me “Yes” i cleared my throat “So what you are saying is that you want to retire” “Yes sir” she said with a clear face How is she saying this without flinching when she knows she is the only one I can tolerate. I can’t say anything right now, this is just so messed up. I just sat there in silence hoping maybe this is just a prank. “But sir I have someone I trust that can take my position” she said when she noticed my silence What the f**k!!! So she has been planning this for a while. Wow!! I just kept a straight face looking at her in silence for her to continue but instead she kept quiet maybe she wants me to say something. I have to try and calm down and sound normal “So who is this girl you are talking about” I asked, forcing myself to sound interested when I don’t care at all. “So this girl sorry lady is actually already working in this company in the marketing department” she paused waiting for my go-ahead to keep talking so I gave her nod to continue “I saw her last month after spending three months searching for someone to replace me as your new secretary and PA” Wait three month!!! Since when has she been planning this. But I still did not express this outside, i still kept my face straight “Her name is Anna Hale, she is hardworking from the what I heard from her boss and colleagues, she is also helpful and cheerful and for some reason she seems to have a bright personality which makes everyone who she is talking to warm to her easily. And I think that’s what you need” “How are you sure that’s what I need” I adjusted myself in my seat trying my best to not show any reaction outside. “Ethan you know I know you more than anyone else. You are like a son to me and I know you are troubled but you don’t want to show it.” She said with a caring and sad face. I was shocked a little bit by how she knew but then I remember that she has been like my mother for years since my mom died when I was young “And that’s how I know that you need a hardworking person and mostly a cheerful person that can make you at least feel like you used to be before, a fun and adventurous person even in work. And what I love about her more is that she is really hardworking and a prestigious person in her department in the company even with her cheerful personality” this word just seems to make my calm a little bit and soften my face a little bit And it seems like she noticed too because she smiled after looking at me in silence “Ok I will try and trust your word on this. Tell her to start work tomorrow morning by 8am tomorrow and when did you say you are leaving the company” “Next month, so she will be under me for this month so that I can show her all the dos and don’ts in this position. I think that’s the best thing to do now” she said and I clearly agree with her because even I know that this is not an easy job So I just nodded in agreement “So if that’s all, let’s the business of the day. Tell Elena to bring my coffee and prepare the conference room for the board meeting this morning” “Yes sir” she said I left my office I breath out loud as soon as she left, I just realized I have been holding my breath since Now I just hope this Anna girl is not going to be a problem.
