Rented Heart
Chapter 1: The Offer
Amara never imagined she would sell her time, let alone her heart. But when her landlord banged on the door for the third time that week, reality sank its claws in. She needed money, and she needed it fast.
Her waitressing job barely covered textbooks, let alone rent. Debt notices piled up on her kitchen table like unwelcome guests. Her friends offered help, but pride kept her from accepting.
Scrolling desperately through job listings one night, she saw an ad that made her stop breathing:
> Rent a date. No strings attached. High pay. Discretion guaranteed.
Her finger hovered over the download button for what felt like forever. Finally, she clicked.
The app was called Rented Hearts, and the idea was painfully simple. Someone paid, you pretended to be their partner. Just company — or so the terms said.
Within hours of signing up, her profile buzzed with a booking request. Her first client.
Name: Leon Wolfe
Age: 28
Details: Business executive
Request: Fake fiancée for high-profile events
She read it three times. The pay was enough to cover two months of rent in one night. Her stomach flipped.
---
The first meeting was set for the lobby of the Grand Mayfair Hotel, a place dripping with polished marble and money.
Amara had borrowed a black dress from her roommate, smoothing it nervously as she stepped through the revolving doors.
Leon Wolfe was impossible to miss. Tall. Impeccably tailored. Ice-blue eyes that could slice through your defenses in seconds.
He glanced at her, scanning her from head to toe.
> “Miss—Amara, correct?”
His voice was calm, clipped, almost bored.
> “That’s me,” she replied, heart hammering.
Leon nodded once. “We’ll go over the ground rules. You will act like you’re in love with me. You will accompany me to all functions. No surprises, no personal questions, and absolutely no real feelings. Understood?”
Amara swallowed hard. No real feelings. Easy enough — she’d barely managed to keep her own heart alive these past few months.
“Understood,” she said.
Leon’s eyes lingered on her for a moment longer, like he was searching for something buried deep. Then he gestured toward the elevator.
“Let’s begin.”
And just like that, Amara stepped into a world she’d never imagined — a world of diamonds and danger, where love was a transaction, and hearts were just items up for rent
