Prologue
~Flashback~
“ Mama..” The young girl whimpered threw her quiet cries, crouching beside her mother’s lifeless body. Her once turquoise dress now muddy with blood stains all throughout the threads of her dress. She reached her small hand forward softly touching the pool of blood on her mother’s stomach, a silent sob escaping.
“N-No..” She shook her head, trying to imprint the thought that this was all a nightmare, but when she lifted her fingers, seeing the glossy red liquid lining them. She couldn’t help but cover her mouth to silence her scream, her eyes widening at the sight. She quickly wiped her hand off on her dress, letting her eyes drift back to her mother. Her small hand slowly removing itself from her mouth.
“ Please.. Please don’t leave me with them..” She pleaded once more, stroking the strands of her mother’s black hair out of her face. While her own tears trickled onto her mother’s face. Her eyes scanned her mother’s face, softly closing her eyelids, before her eyes caught glimpse of the silver chain that rested on her mother’s neck. She softly pulled the thin chain until the clasp was in sight. She gently unclipped it, holding it in her small palms. Her face dampening further as more tears began to fall quickly.
“ Valentina, she’s dead love. Come with me.” A deep voice from behind her, pulled her attention away from her mother’s body. Her lip quivering, trying to silence her sobs from continuing.
“ You killed her! You killed her! ‘’ Valentina yelled, rising to her feet as she punched the muscled man’s stomach profusely. Her fists aching at the touch with pain as she continued, but it didn’t matter. Nothing matters. Not anymore. Her only hope in this lifetime was gone forever. Her body lowered to the ground, slowly again. Her petite body beginning to shake while different emotions raked through her body. She continued to tremble, as more sobs escaped her lips.
“ We need to go.’’ The man muttered lowly, lifting Valentina by her arm, beginning to pull her towards the hallway.
“ L-Let me g-go!” She shrieked, pulling her arm towards her with all the might she could muster. His grip didn’t waver in the slightest. She heaved another sob, coughing to clear her throat. “ P-Please” She croaked, trying to keep up with him as his strides quickened . Her clouded eyes looked over to the other monsters, all in which were staring at her like their next meal. Their eyes flowing up and down her body. Their control slipping as their eyes shifted from their original color to red and the veins under their eyes fluttering to her sight.
“ Don’t look at them!’’ He hissed, pulling her forward, before quickly turning down one of the hallways. Her small canvas shoes tapped along the wooden floors. “ The King wishes to see you in an hour. Be ready by 8 p.m.” He spoke, leaving no time for a response, closing the door behind them as they entered a small room. When she fell silent continuing to cry silent sobs, he forcefully jerked her chin up to him. “ Am I clear?” He spat, forcing her to nod shortly. Her eyes closed to blink away the tears. He released her chin, turning on his heel and exiting the room, in one swift motion. She rushed towards the door, twisting the handle, the handle only turning slightly not budging in the slightest. Her small figure slid down the aged oak door, falling to her bum as her arms circled around her knees. Her face burrowing into the depths of her knees’ comfort, as she continued to release the emotions she had left.
