Chapter 28
Freybelle’s POV
I had finally calmed down and we were sat in the large pack house meeting room. Nathan hadn’t let go of me and I was sat in his lap, feeling extremely self-conscious.
“Frey… what was in the bag?” Nathan asked and I felt my stomach drop.
“Spell items for a huge ritual. Jet is used on an altar…” I saw a lot of confused faces and I breathed a deep breath. “Ok… I need to explain the basics of a ritual before I explain what was in the bag, is that ok?” I asked, hoping they would let me.
“I think the more information we have, the better moving forwards.” Alpha Fenn said. Nathan hadn’t said anything over the last hour or so, but I knew him and Luna Sylvia had been exchanging looks and possibly even mind links.
“Ok… when a basic spell is done there is a level of things we need. The basic being nothing but our own self, then we move up to an item to work through, like a candle or water or a mirror. Each element has its own unique purpose just as each crystal, colour, herb and item does. When we need more power, we use a circle to keep the magic within, keep it more concentrated then finally we use an altar. It is usually a large wooden or stone table. Big enough for us to put everything we need on but small enough to fit inside a salt circle.”
“Wait so the stone thing I was laid on was an altar.” Luna Sylvia asked, interrupting me. I nodded.
“I think it was. Although I had never seen it, the memories I have seen from Nathan suggests it was but created specifically for the ritual used on you. We do carve runes into our altars, and we keep certain items on it.” The Luna nodded for me to continue. “Like with your healing spell we give offerings to the north, east, west and south by offering them an item. Each point has a different element, earth, air, fire and water. Then we also use different items dependant on the purpose of the spell… ok?” Everyone nodded.
“So, this altar is something they’re using again?” The Alpha asked.
“That’s my assumption. The jet is a powerful mineral used for binding spells but also for grounding spells… I highly doubt it is to be used for that. Then there are the herbs in the bags. There is Dock root, used for binding, Dandelion leaves, used for binding and Wormwood used for summoning…”
“Wait, didn’t you ask for two of those in your spell list…” The Alpha said and I cringed.
“Yes, However I would have been using the dandelion leaves and wormwood for divination. Each plant can serve good or bad but there are certain plants that are not really used in white magic.” I said, hoping that explained things to the Alpha but he didn’t look convinced. I sighed.
“You still doubt her?” Nathan asked, his first words since we had entered here.
“Nathan…” The Luna warned.
“No Luna, it is getting ridiculous. She has done nothing but prove herself over and over again. What is it going to take to give her just a tiny bit of trust.” I saw the Alphas eyes change colour and knew he was mind linking. “No… say it out loud Alpha. She deserves to hear everything. No more secrets.”
“Fine… I am still not convinced. How would you expect me to act. A witch amongst us after everything her coven did to us. Sure, her intentions are pure now but if her own coven can turn without her knowing, how does she know she isn’t evil at heart too.” I opened my mouth to respond but immediately closed it again. I hated how he thought but there was part of him that was right. Id always thought my coven was good and pure but underneath they weren’t. Had it been happening a long time right under my nose or had I just ignored the signs? Was I part of it without knowing. The fact that I could bind so easily without worrying made me panic a little and Nathan held me tighter.
“Frey don’t listen to him. You aren’t evil…” He said into my ear.
“But I bound… twice… used dark magic…” I stuttered out as my body began to shake. I knew I was slipping into a panic attack, and I tried to control my breathing. Then I felt Nathan pull my face, so we were making eye contact.
“You are not evil… you did it to protect me, yourself and the pack. Don’t doubt yourself or your power.” He said, loudly, not caring if anyone else heard. Something inside me snapped and I felt a power within me stir, the same power I had felt when I needed help to break out of the ritual. I stilled, my panic attack subsiding. I nodded and smiled.
“They are mates…” The Luna said in awe. “He was able to calm her, only a mate can do that.” I bowed my head, sorry for my outburst.
“That changes nothing.” The Alpha spat before he left the room angrily. I sighed heavily and looked to the Luna then to Nathan.
“Do we tell the Luna?” I whispered hoping she couldn’t hear me.
“Tell me what?” and I sighed.
“I wish I could mind link you.” I said absent mindedly but then I felt a wave of shock from Nathan then a bunch of giddiness that was unusual for him. Could I be sensing Blaze? Why would he be excited about that? I didn’t ask but turned to the Luna.
“Well, I managed to communicate with the Goddess who claimed to be Selene’s sister.”
“Selene doesn’t have a sister.” The Luna snapped and I shrugged.
“Honestly, I don’t know but she was divine, and she knew a lot about your race. Her name was Merena.” The Luna nodded as if it meant something to her. “Well, she claims we are mates but not fated, we are chosen with a bond.”
“So, you are still mates, then…” The luna said, looking confused and then Nathan laughed.
“Told you…” Nathan said.
“I thought your mates were fated?” I asked.
“Yes, they are, but if we do not find our mates or they die, we are not all lucky enough to be gifted with a second chance, so we chose a mate to take on. We do not feel the sparks though, so you are more Nathans mate than chosen…” I sighed, knowing she didn’t fully get it, but at least she was accepting me a little more now. “My mate is hot headed, but he will eventually come around, I hope. I will go and talk to him as we need to discuss talking to the prisoner. I hope you understand why I will sit this one out though.”
“I do.” I bowed and she left me and Nathan with Jack and a few of the warriors that I had come to know over the week. “So… what do we do now?” I asked as everyone looked at me.
“We wait for the alpha to talk to Asher but there’s no reason why you can’t prepare for the Luna’s healing ritual, the scrying spell and I need to still train the warriors. Is it worth you helping us out?” He asked and I looked at him confused.
“I agree, if you can use magic, we need to know what they can throw at us.” Jack said and for the first time he was looking at me like a person, not like a bug he wanted to crush.
“The Luna gave the go ahead but we were waiting to talk to Alpha Fenn about it.” Nathan said and I smiled.
“That’s what you were talking about?” I asked and he nodded.
“Through the mind link, yes. Also… what you said. There is a way for you to mind link me… but I think it’s a discussion for when were alone…” I looked at him confused but nodded as Jack and the warriors started talking about my magic and how they thought I could use it.
