***Bear***
I was at the clubhouse dealing with the normal. I hated leaving the hospital; it had been a week since Piper was found at the hospital doors. They took the tube out of her; she had started breathing better on her own. The doctor said the rape kit came back. We had called the police and filed a report. I had security pull the videos and saw a man had dropped her off at the doors. He set her in one of the wheelchairs and then drove off. I wasn't able to get a plate on the car, but Molly recognized the man; she said it was Piper's boyfriend, Peter.
I got copies of the results from the kits, and sure enough, there were three different DNA samples found. They also found skin and dried blood under Piper's nails. They had taken that as well; I'm waiting to hear back. I plan to hunt these fuckers down. They don't get to live after what they did to her. I was still confused about why I felt I needed to protect her. All I knew was that seeing her tiny, frail body lying there caused a feeling within me to stir to life, something I hadn't felt in a long ass time.
My door opened, and Bash walked in, his phone to his ear.
"That's great, Mol."
He sat down, his head bobbing as he listened to her.
"Good, I'm glad to hear that, and yes, she can stay with us, you know this."
He gave me a curt nod.
"Alright, Mol. I'll let him know; that's good news. Talk to you soon, love ya."
He ended the call, pocketing his phone.
"Molly said that Piper woke up about an hour ago."
Relief washed over me.
"That's good, man. How's she doing?"
"She said she seems aware of what happened, but is not talking much. She agreed to stay with us when she is released."
I bobbed my head.
"Any info on those samples?" He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk.
"No. I'm waiting to hear back about the skin under her nails; she must have gotten them good. There was a good amount, but if they aren't in the system, it will make it harder unless she knows who they are. That and they went looking for the Peter guy and haven't found him."
"Chickenshit. He is probably hiding under a rock."
"Most likely. I mean, he had to know there were cameras at the entrance."
"Some don't think, and by the looks on that video, he was in a hurry."
There was a small moment of silence before he cleared his throat.
"So..." He drew out the word. I mentally groaned, knowing what he was fishing for.
"Just spit it out, Bash," I grumbled at him, only earning a chuckle from him.
"Is there something you want to tell me?" I could hear him holding his laughter back. I looked up, raising my brow at him.
"Oh, come on, man. You can tell me you're smitten with little Miss Piper."
Sitting back in my chair, I didn't answer; I stared at him. His brows shot up.
"Holy s**t, you are." He slapped his hand on the desk, making all the papers jump along with my drink, as he bellowed out a laugh.
"Shut it," I threw some crumpled-up papers at him.
I felt like a teenager who had just been caught having a crush.
"Oh man, wait till I tell Mols. She's gonna have a good laugh."
I growled at him but returned to my work.
"Oh, don't be like that, man. I'm happy, but you know it will take time. She's hurt badly, and I don't think she will be so willing to trust men. Can I ask what it is that you are looking for with her?"
With a sigh, I sat back again, running my fingers through my hair.
"I don't know, man, just something pulling me to her. I haven't talked to her, and yet just seeing her lying there makes me want to protect her from the world."
"Hey, I get it; I mean, look at Molly and me. All it took was one glance at her, and I was hooked, and that was two years ago."
That was true. Bash had met Molly in a bar while we were out one night. She was with some coworkers. Bash was a big-time player; he would have different women each night. He never put them on the back of his bike, but that all changed the night he saw her. She made him work for it, though. He didn't have it easy; she knew what kind of man he was. He had to prove to her she was the one he wanted, and he screwed up a few times and almost lost her for good, but he pulled it together. He hasn't let her go.
Now they are married. Even with him claiming her through the club and her wearing his property patch, they got legally married about eight months ago.
"I know it will take time, and I'm willing to wait till she is ready, but I think she is it for me. I haven't felt like this in a long time. These are feelings I buried deep down a long time ago, but seeing her, they have rushed to the surface."
At night, I would sit in her room. Bash would take Molly home even though she fought to stay; he would scoop her up and carry her out. I would sit in there and watch her sleep. Some of the bruising was becoming lighter, and the older ones had almost cleared up. I had also put prospects in the hall and outside. They all had a picture of that Peter guy; if he showed his face, they were to grab him and hold him.
"I'm glad to hear that, man. After all, you do deserve some happiness, and not all women will be like... You know who."
I gave him a stern look. I forbid her name from being spoken in this clubhouse. He held his hands up.
"Didn't say the name, brother."
"Hmm."
"But in all truth, I'm glad you have found someone who has pulled you out of this funk. I mean, sure, you don't sleep with the club girls, but you're still out there picking up random women. It's time you get a chance at an honest woman, and I think that Piper may be the one for you. From what Molly has told me, she's very loyal and sounds sweet as hell."
"Thanks, man. Now get back to work, will ya? For the love of God, I do not pay you to sit around all day, even if your ass is parked in my office."
"Oh, how you wound me," he placed his hand on his chest and fell back against the chair, the back of his hand to his forehead. "And to think I came in here bearing good news. You hurt me with your words."
I rolled my eyes at him. He can be a goof at times.
"You know, if you plan on making Piper your woman, don't you think you should, oh, I don't know, go meet her?"
My eyes snapped up to him.
"Dude, she is awake, and maybe it would be better if you have Molly there to do the introductions for your first meet?"
Dam, he did have a point.
