***Piper*** Molly was smiling from ear to ear as she put her phone down. I could see how giddy she was and how happy she sounded on the phone. "What?" She chuckled. I pointed to her phone. She looked down at it. "Oh, that was Bash. He's my husband." A slight pink blush tinted her cheeks. She looked like a shy teenager as she bit her bottom lip. I raised my brows at her, making her laugh. "He's a good guy, Piper. You will like him. He's a big softy." She sounded almost dreamy. "Long?" I asked. I could say more as the day went on; the ice had definitely helped, but my throat was still sore. "About two years. We got married around eight months ago. Our first year was kinda rocky." My face must have shown some emotion. "Oh no, nothing like that, Piper. He was kinda a player before I met him, and we had some bumps. It was mostly me being my usual dumb self and pushing him away, but he didn't give up." She got this warm smile as she seemed to think about something. You could see how much she loved him. Just then, a knock came at the door, and two gentlemen in uniforms walked in. "Ms. Reed?" The one stepped forward. I couldn't help but shrink back into the bed. When he extended his hand, he stopped when he saw my reaction. "I'm Officer Moore. This is my partner, Officer Warren. We would like to speak to you about the attack on you last week." The one called Warren looked down at me with a look of disgust. I had seen those looks from Peter and his friends before. Molly was next to me. "I'm sorry, but the nurses should have told you no one is allowed in without being cleared with us first." Both men looked at her; the second one scoffed at her words. "Lady, what makes you think you are above us? We are officers. We can come in any time we want." "Warren," the first one snapped at him. I could feel my breathing pick up as the tension became thick. "It does not matter what or who you are. This is a hospital, and there are specific rules that even you guys have to follow. You can not barge in here without us knowing," Molly snapped at him as she rounded the bed, stepping between us, arms crossed as she stared at the men. "Look here, lady, if you do not want to be cuffed and dragged out, I suggest you step aside and let us do our job." "Go ahead, and that will be the worst mistake you will make today," Molly shot right back. "That's it." He went to grab her when a loud, booming voice came from the doorway. "Touch her, and you will lose that arm." He froze in his spot as they looked over their shoulders. I watched as two large guys walked in. They were both so tall that they ducked to walk through the doorway. They were both in jeans and t-shirts with a leather vest over them and black boots. One of them went straight for Molly, pulling her to him. She wrapped her arms around his waist, and he leaned down and kissed the top of her head. The second one I noticed moved to the end of my bed, and holy hell, was he huge; he was significantly larger than the one standing with Molly. His eyes scanned over me, but then shifted to look at the officers. "Is there a problem?" He spoke, and his deep, smooth voice made me shiver. He crossed his arms. I watched as his biceps bulged, stretching his shorts tighter over them. Their faces paled when they looked at the two giant men standing there. Finally, the one who had talked to me first spoke up. "We just came to talk with Ms. Reed," he said, clearing his throat. "We wanted to ask her some questions about her attack." "And the nurses at the counter know not to let anyone in here without asking first. Piper is in no condition to make a statement or even answer any questions they have," Molly chimed in. The one holding her looked at the two men. "There's your answer. So what are you still doing here?" "Look, we know who you are, but that will not scare us off. We have a job to do, and you are interfering in our investigation," said the one who had been giving Molly a hard time. This caused the one standing at the foot of my bed to step forward. He towered over these men. "If you know who we are, you should know what we will do if you cross us. You are out of line, and I have no problem putting you back in it. I know what instructions were given to the nurses out there. And seeing as you have just walked in here without regard for what was said, I think you are having difficulty following orders. Should I place a call to your chief and let him know that two of his men are harassing an injured woman while threatening another?" He pulled his phone out as if he were going to make a call. The first officer held his hands up. "Alright, we get it. We will leave. Please let us know when we can speak with Ms. Reed about what happened to her. No matter what you may think, I would like to get to the bottom of this and find the ones responsible to get them locked up." The big guy just nodded at him. As the officer stepped back towards the door, I saw him staring at the guy who still held his phone, but he didn't back down. "Warren, let's go." They both left the room, and I felt as if I could relax, but that quickly changed when the two guys turned to look down at me. I could feel myself start to tremble. A hand touched my arm, making me jump a bit. "Piper, it's okay. They are here to help. This is my husband, Bash, and his brother, Remy, or as we call him, Bear." My eyes moved between the two. They held a dominance over them. Authority surrounded them, but they didn't look at me like I was trash or some cheap thing to torment. I swallowed slowly, taking in a breath. They won't hurt me. "Nice to mee..." I managed, but my voice gave out. I shut my eyes as pain ripped down my throat. "Easy, Pip. Here, take a sip, slowly though, so you don't choke," Molly said. She helped hold me up as she lifted a cup to my lips. The cool liquid felt soothing as it ran down my throat. Looking back at them, my eyes landed on the one she called Bear. That was a good name for him, as he was the size of one. He smiled at me. His eyes didn't drift from mine. "How did you guys get here so fast?" Molly asked as she set the cup back down. "We were on our way when one of the prospects called, saying two cops were here asking to speak with Piper," her husband said. There was a knock on the door, and then the doctor entered. "How are we doing?" he asked as he walked in, his eyes taking in everyone in the room. "Question. How did the cops know she was awake?" Bear said as he turned his attention to the doctor. The doctor stopped and looked at him. "Well, they were called, and an update on her condition was given. We were told to let them know the minute she is awake. I'm sorry, but we cannot withhold information from them." "And the fact that we left instructions that no one was to be allowed in here, yet those two walked right in while there were only women in here. Who is responsible for that screw-up?" Bear stepped forward to stand right in front of him, glaring down at him. I could see the doctor's face pale as he was being chewed out by this very large and terrifying man.
