AXEL’S P.O.V
Darrian walked out of the room a few hours later and I was in a panic.
“Is she fine? Is the baby okay?” I swamped Darrien with a series of questions.
“Calm down, Alpha. Axel, Francesca, and the baby are okay. She needs to rest, possibly stop all the work she has been doing, and just take it easy.” Darrien said, trying to hold my concentration.
“Okay, that’s good. Can I see her now?” I asked, almost climbing over Darrian just so I could get into the room to see Francesca.
“Sure, go ahead.” Darrian smiled, moving aside.
As I walked past the healer, Darrien held me back, whispering something into my ears.
“She almost lost this one too, Axel. If I hadn’t come when I did, you would be going in there to look at her corpse.” Darrian informed me, keeping his voice down so Francesca wouldn’t hear him.
“Thank you, Darrian.” I gave the healer an understanding nod and went in to see my mate.
I sat beside a sleeping Francesca. I sat there quietly and just observed everything about her, from her breathing to her pregnancy bump and the way she seemed so peaceful even though she had almost died.
“I promise I won’t let anything hurt you.” I said, placing a kiss on Francesca’s cheek before I left her to sleep.
The next few days, Francesca tried to get back to the preparations of our mating ceremony, but I refused, and I took over all the planning and even shifted the ceremony by a few days so Francesca could rest properly. The day of the ceremony, I insisted that Starr not leave Francesca’s side even for a single second.
FRANCESCA’S P.O.V
“I’m pregnant, not disabled.” I rolled my eyes in the mirror as I adjusted my gown.
“I think the Alpha just wants to be sure you have someone by your side in case of an emergency.” Starr smiled, adjusting the ruffles on my white gown.
“I can assure you that I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself.” I laughed, checking out my outfit in the full mirror.
“You look beautiful, Luna,” Starr complimented me, dusting the invisible dirt from the white dress.
“Well, I have you to thank for that.” I said as Starr helped me wear the pair of shoes Axel had bought for our mating ceremony.
Once I was dressed, Starr accompanied me to the great hall for the ceremony. The entire pack was seated and waiting for me with smiles on their faces. They were happy that their Axel and I would finally marry, and they were pleased to see me and the baby were healthy and doing well.
I walked down the aisle, smiling at everyone at each table. I even noticed Raymond was present and not causing any problems. I realized she had not seen Raymond since the day of my emergency, and I was just glad he wasn’t causing any problems at my mating ceremony.
Axel was standing at the altar, smiling from ear to ear as he watched me walk down the aisle towards him.
“You look even prettier today.” Axel whispered in my ear when I was beside him.
“And you look like your mouth is about to tear if you keep smiling like that.” I whispered, laughing at my mate.
“I can’t help it. I’m getting mated to the most amazing person in the pack. I can’t stop smiling even if I try." Axel whispered, taking my hand in his and gently squeezing it.
“Francesca Moonheart, do you vow to respect Axel Bloodmoon, to love him forever, and to stand with him in health and in sickness, in good and in bad, in riches and poverty? To protect and fight by him, do you promise all these things before the goddess?” The oldest pack member asked me.
I looked into Axel’s eyes; I was nearly in tears. I was about to bind my life with the man who loved me so much.
“I do.” I said, smiling at Axel, trying my best not to burst into tears of joy.
“Do you, Axel Bloodmoon, vow to respect Francesca Moonheart, to love her forever, and to stand with her in health and in sickness, in good and in bad, in riches and d poverty? To protect and fight by her, do you promise all these things before the goddess?” The elder asked Axel.
Axel smiled from ear to ear, cupping my face in his hands. “I…”
“Stop the wedding!” A woman screamed from the back of the hall, banging the doors of the hall shut behind her.
The hall erupted in mumblings. Everyone was wondering who this mysterious woman was. The woman had bloody red hair, and she was heavily pregnant. She walked in wearing a short, white dress and heels to the altar, and everyone just whispered in low tones.
“I find it very rude to marry someone else when you have a family that you abandoned for no good reason.” The red-haired woman said and rolled her eyes at me.
“If you don’t mind, I would like a minute with my husband.” The red-haired woman said to me.
“Your husband?” I asked, shocked at the audacity of the red-haired woman.
“Yes, my husband.” The red-haired woman emphasized, caressing Axel’s face, but he pulled his face away in disgust.
I grabbed the red head by her wrist and turned her sharply so I was face to face with the demon who had come to ruin my mating ceremony.
"Listen, lady, I don’t know who you are, where you’ve come from, or whose baby you’re carrying, but I can assure you that you don’t belong here, and I am not someone you want to mess with.” I growled at the woman.
“You want to know who I am?” The red-haired woman smirked, pushing me to the ground, making everyone rise from their seats, ready to attack this unwanted guest.
Axel rushed to my side, trying to see if I was alright.
“Are you good?” Axel asked me, inspecting my skin.
“I’m fine, Axel; it’s going to take more than a simple push to hurt me.” I dusted myself.
“My name is Megan, and I am carrying Axel’s baby!” The red-haired woman shouted to the pack. “And I have come to rightfully take my place as his mate and your Luna.”
The pack growled angrily at Megan, ready to pounce on her and rip her to pieces. Axel helped me to my feet.
"Look, lady, I don’t know what you’re up to or who paid you to do this, but your joke is no longer funny, and I demand that you leave while you still can.” Axel warned Megan, flashing his fangs at her.
“You’ve always been the vicious and aggressive type, and that’s what I always liked about you.” Megan smiled seductively at Axel.
I hissed at Megan, disgusted by her cheap antics to try and seduce Axel. “Listen, Megan, or whatever you call yourself. I advise you to leave now. You’ve cracked your joke, but you need to leave now.” I warned, Megan.
“I’m sorry, but I’m not leaving until Axel agrees to marry me, and if he doesn’t, I’m going to have no choice but to kill myself and my baby. And of course, if that happens, my father would demand his pound of flesh.” Megan laughed. “So, no matter how you look at it, the only way out of this peacefully is my way.”
Megan took a seat in front of me and Axel.
“It’s in your hands, Axel; what decision are you going to make?” Megan asked.
