Prologue
Age five.....
I stared at the house, burning ashes in front of me. I didn't dare to go inside and help them. I could hear them screaming. Calling me. But I didn't go, If I did, I would've burned myself.
I could hear the siren of police cars in the background. As they came closer, I started walking further in the woods with my teddy against my chest.
After standing far enough away so that the officers couldn't see me , I turned around to look at the fire. It was getting bigger by each second that passed by. And I could feel my skin melting from the heat of the fire.
After a while, firetrucks arrived. I heard one officer yelling, ordering the police officers to look around the place for any trace of evidence of what might have happened or who or what caused the fire.
As two came my way, I turned and walked further in the woods. I could hear the leafs softly cracking against my bare feet as I walked further.
When I was far enough from the fire and the officers, I stopped walking and put my teddy bear next to a tree trunk and sat beside him.
His name is Christopher. I named him after my grandfather, who I don't remember, and died the day after was born. Mom and dad said I'm a curse to the family, and that's why grandpa died.
I took Christopher in my arms and cuddled him. The cold wind was brushing against my warm cheek and made me shiver. As I looked straight ahead of me, I could see a figure coming my way. It was big.
Big like daddy. It came closer, I looked up and saw a man. "Hey, little girl." he wispered and lifted me up in his arms. I just stared at him, and he let out a chuckle.
He started walking further in the woods, carrying me in his big arms, which I feel so safe in.
After some time, my eyes grew heavy. "Don't sleep yet, princess," he murmured against my ear and rubbed my back.
I held him tighter and closed my eyes.
