This was the first time that I had left the cabin and when I saw how beautiful the land was here I gasped. Adriel looked at me and smiled. He was proud. There were children playing and chasing each other. Women were doing their daily chores, I could hear men in the distance. It sounded like they were training. My eyes scanned as quickly as they could.
The Blackwater pack must not have had the money that other packs did. There are maybe 15-20 small cabins in the area. Their land perimeter was small. He told me that they were a small pack so this was understandable.
My eyes were still hungrily taking in everything I saw. There were women washing clothes and hanging them on clothes lines. There were a few women that were cooking, while some women tended to the children. It seemed so carefree here. There was no hustle and bustle that always seemed to be in our house. Adriel saw that I was taking everything in and he stopped.
"Rain, are you okay?" he asked.
"Yes, I am just really fascinated by your pack. Why do your pack members live in small cabins like you and not grand houses? Where are all the cars? Where is the main pack house?" I asked.
"We are almost to the main house, it was the first one built so it was a walk from my cabin. We decided on small cabins because we were living in tepees, but since we decided to stay permanently in this area we chose better homes. Many peoples cabins have more than one room. My mother's house is larger. You will find it comfortable. I am not sure what you mean about cars, we do not have any of that here." he said.
"If you don't have cars, how do you get around?" I asked.
"We walk, run, shift, or ride horses. We have a small stable near the main house. We do not have many horses, just a few." he said.
"Oh." was the only thing that I could mutter. I have never met a pack that didn't flaunt their wealth. Maybe they just haven't gotten their finances in order, he did say they recently moved to this area. Unless they are one of the new packs that live off the land. My mother said the hippie generation was making a comeback.
Adriel guided me towards a bigger house. It was a two story cabin. It was nicer than any of the other cabins that we walked past. It had a larger window in the front and a beautiful door. Someone had carved a beautiful scene on the door. There was a cliff with a huge wolf standing on the edge. He looked to be howling at the full moon. Behind the wolf stood a tall woman, her hair blew from a breeze. She seemed to be looking at the moon. Many wolves are underneath him on different levels of the cliff. Below on the ground were more wolves, all howling at the moon. They were all different sizes. There were beautiful trees around them and stars in the sky.
I thought if you were to stare hard enough at the door you could hear the wolves howling and the scene would come to life. Adriel moved his hand along the doors scene.
"I carved this for my mother." he said.
"This is the ceremony of the Goddess blessing my parents and our pack."
"It is beautiful." I said. He grabbed my hand and ran it over the carving. Having his hand over mine took my breath away. It was truly magnificent and knowing that he carved it made it special. He pushed the door open and we entered the house.
To the right there was a room that had a huge table. There were many chairs. That must be the dining room and to the left was a sitting area. We walked into the sitting room and there were carved chairs. The furniture was nothing like our house, but it was nice.
There was a bench that was like a sofa. It was carved from wood and the cushions had a beautiful Native American pattern. There were blankets thrown on the back of the bench. They looked home made. They must have paid a lot of money for those blankets. There was a table between the bench and two smaller chairs. On the walls were different animal hides and under the table was a bear skin rug. I noticed the two smaller chairs were made with some kind of hide. It was stretched and the yarn or fabric that connected the hide to the wood was a red color. It was actually quite beautiful. All of this must be custom made to match the cabin. I absolutely love it.
"Did your mother decorate all this herself?" I asked him.
"We have a good furniture maker here in the pack. He is a master at his craft." Adriel said.
I sat down on the bench and ran my fingers across the table. This was amazing. Adriel sat next to me and took my hand into his. He gave it a little squeeze and I put my head on his shoulder. I closed my eyes and took in his scent. I still do not understand why I cannot think when I was next to him. When I opened my eyes, I noticed a beautiful woman standing in the doorway. I jumped up quickly. She was around 5"11, her black hair flowed from side to side with each step she took. Her eyes were the color of caramel surrounded by dark lashes that made her appear to have a natural eyeliner. Her full lips complimented her perfect nose. Her skin was a brown color that seemed to glow as the sunlight hit it. She wore a long white dress that flowed opposite of her hair. The fabric seemed so white, I was sure in the sunlight it would hurt your eyes.
She had bracelets on her wrists with a necklace to match. Her dress was so long you couldn't see her feet. She was so graceful, she seemed to glide towards us. She reached out her hand for me to take and I could see a small tattoo on the side. It was a paw print. I took her hand and shook it gently.
"Luna." I said, not being able to take my eyes off of her. She possessed the room. "Call me Mother Kai." she spoke softly, a smile formed on her perfect lips. She was how I imagined the perfect Luna would hold herself.
"Mother, this is Rain. I found her hurt in the woods. I was patrolling and heard a noise. I smelled wildflowers. My wolf was going crazy wanting to find the smell and when I did, she was laying on the ground."
Adriel told his mother.
"Yes, Rain. What a beautiful name," she grabbed my chin with her soft hand and examined my face,"the name matches the beauty."
She made me blush! I could feel the heat radiating from my cheeks. She guided me to sit back down. I couldn't seem to take my eyes off of her. She was so beautiful. All she did was smile gently at me. Adriel broke the silence.
"Mother, could Rain stay here with you? I do not have the extra room that she needs. She is the daughter of an Alpha. She needs the best." he asked.
I was hurt! I thought I would stay with him. I knew that his cabin was not big, but we could be happy. I was not sure of our plans, but I knew that we were mates and we needed to move forward with our lives together, but nothing had been discussed. I was not even sure he wanted me as his mate.
I still had to remember my old pack. I still had to figure out a way to contact my father and make sure he was okay. I had so much to do!
"You do not want your mate in your house? I thought you two would be out of sight for a few days." she giggled.
Oh my Goddess, I knew what she meant! I blushed again.
"Mother, I would love for Rain to live in my house, but we have not talked about our future together. I am not even sure she wants to be my mate." he looked down disappointed.
"Adriel, I do want to be your mate and I want to stay with you. I need you." I said. At that very moment I felt Amaya, I needed him, too.
"Then it is settled. She is welcome here, but if she wants her mate I cannot stop her." Luna Kai said.
"Rain, you are my daughter now. You may have whatever it is that you please. My son was put here by the Goddess to take care of you." she said.
"I was put here by the Goddess to make him happy, too." I said.
Adriel smiled at me. I could feel his warmth in my heart. The more that we were together the more our bodies connected. "You two need to discuss your plans, tell me what you decide and then we will move forward with the mating ceremony. I am so happy that my heart has found his mate." she looked so lovingly at Adriel. It made me miss my mother. A sharp pain shot through my heart and I put my hand on my chest. Adriel must have known what was happening because he was on his knees in front of me making sure I was ok. I let go of my chest and smiled at him.
"I am sorry, but I must go. Luna duties call. Your father is away and I have to help two families with a land dispute." Luna Kai rose to her feet in one graceful motion.
"It was nice to meet you, Luna" I said, giving her a small bow.
"Mother Kai." she corrected as she left the room.
"Please, excuse my mother, she is always busy." Adriel said as he took me towards the front door.
His mother was already up the stairs. I looked up the stairs, curiously. He noticed. "Upstairs is three rooms, my parents share a room and they each have a room where they meet with pack members." he said. We exited the main house and I stopped to look around.
"Can I ask you a question? Where do the other wives live?" I asked.
"You can ask all the questions and I will try and answer. The other two wives live in small houses behind the main house. My father thought it was respectful to my mother to not have them all under one roof." he said.
"I would be jealous and not want them around either." I said.
"The other wives were my mother's idea, but she does get jealous. She would have issues when the others were pregnant, that had always been hard for my mother." he said.
"Can the others still have kids?" I asked. "Yes, one is pregnant right now. It is the third wife. My father is good to his children, but not the wives. He is in love with my mother. The wives are jealous of my mother because she has my father's heart and they know they are only around to have his babies." he said.
"That doesn't seem fair to them." I felt bad for the other wives.
"They knew what the agreement was. The women wanted to be with the Alpha, to be taken care of. Their mates rejected them or moved away with the others." he explained. "That is horrible to be rejected by your mate." I said.
"My father wanted to help them and it seemed to work out for everyone." he grabbed my hand and pulled me close.
"I will make sure my whole life never to hurt you, Rain. I will make sure that no one hurts you. I feel like you were the part of me that had been missing." he wrapped his arms around my body. He crushed my lips against his and I threw my arms around his neck and pulled him closer. Our bodies were melting into one. I swore I could feel the ground shaking beneath my feet. Birds were singing in the trees at their highest volume. I had to pull away before we did something in the middle of the pack area in front of everyone!
Our lips broke free and we are both trying to catch our breath. He took my hand in his and I rested my head on his bicep. As we made our way back to the cozy cabin I saw a young woman glaring at me. She had her hands on her wide hips, her eyes shooting daggers our way. She was a very short plump girl. Her hair was cut shoulder length making her face look even more round. Adriel didn't seem to notice. I could feel her eyes on my back. I turned back to look at her and she stuck her tongue out at me! I was sure at that moment, that I had made my first enemy.
