Asher’s jaw tightens, but he doesn’t look away. “They’re not supposed to be this close,” is all he says. Not supposed to be? The way he says it doesn’t sit well with me. “Okay…” I say slowly. “And…what exactly are they?” A pause stretches between us, heavier this time. Asher glances briefly toward Liam. I can see the words being exchanged between them in the looks they give each other. After a moment, Asher’s gaze shifts back to me. “They’re rogues.” “Yes, I’ve been told,” I reply with a roll of my eyes. I cross my arms to stop my shaking hands. “That doesn’t actually explain anything.” His gaze sharpens with annoyance. “They’re wolves.” The word hangs there like it’s supposed to mean something.
